FYI Kings, I'm not English.

I'm a New Zealander and proud of it.

The ideal that democracy equals majority rule is long gone...

How about applying that world wide... there will not be one white western government in the whole world..

Democracy is secondary to nationalism... i.e. nation hood...

there is no freedom of choice for maori when it comes to nationhood... they have to be a part of the pakeha nation... even though the treaty states that maori have the right to maintain their tribal identity... i.e. their own nationhood...

So, in this country... democracy is another word for pakeha racial domination over maori ...

That is the fear of racist pakeha... that maori may one day become independent of pakeha... and PROSPER as pakeha do...!!!!

believe me phonyix... you speak english... you look english ... i.e. anglo saxon.. and you aint maori... so yes...you are english... regardless of what you wish to call yourself... migration does not free a man from his past... Lets get one thing straight... a 'New Zealander' is a 'MAORI'... an immigrant is a 'PAKEHA'... no margin of majority will ever alter that fact...

Every seat in parliament is not English. Practically every seat in parliament is sat in by a New Zealander as far as I know.

So Kings, why don't Maori do that?

Why don't they stop accepting the dole from the "Pakeha" government and get a job at a Maori business so they can then be fully free of the "Pakeha Domination".

At the same time they should stop using the internet, it was created by Pakeha. They can stop driving on roads paid for by the "Pakeha Domination Government".

The list could go on.

In case you hadn't noticed King, Maori actually get treated by and large better than most in New Zealand. What other race has services TARGETED directly at their culture? I don't see a "Pakeha Mental Health Service" or "Pakeha Rugby Team".

Regarding the looking English etc - Does that mean a Maori who is born in Australia is an Australian rather than a Maori?

Yes the Maori seats must be kept - Maori have issues that do not affect others and the Maori candidates for general seats must work for everyone - you say some list Maori MP's could take up Maori issues some just aren't into it
they are Maori pakeha firstly or don't feel connected

gee chris what makes you think all maori get the dole there are just as many pakeha who would rather take a free ride just as there are a lot of maori people who are willing too go out and work and not take any benifits that there able too use just because there maori not every maori person takes things just because they can just as there is white people who will take something just because they can

Maori do not have to be part of a Pakeha nation in NZ perse. Maori need to be part of every other ethnicity the makes up what it is to be a New Zealander, to better fit in with everyone else who is non Maori, as one nation, to better proper by their own merits, like everyone else.

I don't like white people who bludge of the dole either however:

1. The discussion was about Maori, not Pakeha.
2. Maori have a considerably higher % of population than Pakeha.

Correction to the above. It should have said

Maori have a considerably higher % of population on the benefit than Pakeha.

well it was about the maori seats being abollished not how many maoris bludge on the dole or use roads you brought it up i`m just saying not all maoris are bludging on the dole or think that they should get a free ride because the maori and not all white people are hard working people who wont take a free handout if offered it

The Raupo Dictionary of Modern Maori, clearly defines Pakeha, as a person being of European/Caucasian decent. The Maori Language Commission confirm this, but also add that this does not mean anyone born in say England or Scotland is a Pakeha. It strictly means a New Zealander of European/Caucasian decent. So all you people out there who say, Pakeha simply means anyone who is non Maori, are wrong.

Vertical: I don't know about that - it's like saying that every Maori has married out - in many rural areas I find that hard to believe

Re:Should Maori seat's be abollished.... Reply to this message
If Maori want things equal in this country then they have to accept that they can not get preferential treatment i.e. seats in parliament just because they're Maori. A separate rugby team. Scholarships just because they are Maori.

Sorry, but I don't agree with Maori seats in parliament, if the Maori want a voice then they should vote for the Maori party and take their chances like everyone else in this country.

After all, isn't that what equality is all about????

eerk politics has never been about morals, racism included; the maori seats serve a purpose in that MPs holding them could raise issues specific for Maori. Any Maori sitting in a General seat hasnt a mandate nor a hope in hell of raising the same issues on behalf of maori. Obviously removing of Maori seats is a touchy issue for the main parties because it could hold the balance of power after the next election. What ever the case may be the status of Maori as tangata whenua must be recognised in politics.

Re:Should Maori seat's be abollished.... Reply to this message
I moved to NZ to get away from racism and shallow politics but listening to people and reading these responses it seems like I made a mistake. I think any party that has enough support amongst people who contribute to the welfare of the nation should have proportionate representation in government regardless of what characteristics make them a party, be that race, tribe, religion or ideology.
New Zealand as a nation has obviously not grown beyond tribalism and if you're going to keep on dividing people according to who's ancestors were here first you're never going to either.
