| p.s. just a suggestion, please take adam.victoria and proudcannabal with you if you do decide to go, cause they have lost their way, and are blinded and deluded as well, poor things, they are supposedly living in this country helping youth today who are at risk, if you are not familiar with their postings, do a bit of thread migrating and find out for yourselves, only if you have the time that is, have a lovely day everyone and live each day as it comes and enjoy every moment of it, be it good or bad, share the love and respect that are instilled somewhere inside of you, one knows some of you might have to dig deep, but your choice! Thanks everyone and bless you all! |

Take a pinch of white man
Wrap it up in black skin
Add a touch of blue blood
And a little bitty-bit of red indian boy
Mm, curly latin kinkies
Mixed with yellow Chinkees
If you lump it all together
Well, you've got a recipe for a get-along scene
Oh, what a beautiful dream
If it could only come true
You know, you know
What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
Keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee-coloured people by the score
Yeah, Lord
Rabbis and the Friars
Bishops and the Gurus
You got the Beatles or the Sun God - it's true
Well, it really doesn't matter
What religion you choose
No no no - ooh
Mick and Lady Faithfull
Lord and Mrs. Graceful
You know the living could be tasteful
Oh, we should all get together in a lovin' machine
I'd better call up the Queen
It's only fair that she knows
You know, you know
What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
Keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee-coloured people by the score
Yeah, what we need
What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
Keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee-coloured people by the score
Yeah, yeah, yeah
What we need is a great big melting pot ....
for all of those people who are happy with who they are regardless of their origins and are able to walk hand in hand with all people!! |

Thanks meads, Yeah I agree with not going back, all everyone needs to do is look and think outside the box, such as Zimbabwe. For a country so beautiful as NZ is, it would be a waste of my time and my parents, grand parents etc etc time if NZ did go backwards. It is Godzone after all! |

Maranga! Wake up!
People of Aotearoa/NZ, the change you are all so desparately seeking if there is a cry for continual abolition of the Maori Party, how uneducated some of you must be (??) if this were to happen now, as already said many times on this post of discussion, unrest and civil disorder will arise, a hikoi will happen, with Maori and Non Maori participants participating in it, it is a fact! that if change is too happen the Maori people that represent this party in Parliament need to have their say and policies and aspirations heard and the dream shared!
While some of us and some of you on this board might not agree with the Maori Party and see it as separatist or whatever are somewhat deluded. A general consensus can only be achieved if there is equal co operation! with each other and not without one party because you think that Maori are always getting handouts! are there no non/maori getting any benefits??
Make your votes count, thats what is supposed to happen and if you really care about the future of this country and the future of your children or any one elses, well hey you are not going to be left out in the dark!
Freedom to choose, thats what its about, there are enough MPs in the General Seats too poke a stick at who are damn useless anyway, good pollie and bad pollie, so be honest if possible and go for change!Advancement for all, and stop trying to continually ursurp and berate the Maori, for they are a people much like yourselves, and we and my generation as said before are Maori/celt, what do you profess we do? swim back too Hawaiiki? Never going too happen we have our earned our right through birthright much like many of you, and for those who do not like it, apparently a pooh hole has been created for you at the bottom of Aotearoa/NZ.........slide out of it and do the rest of the country a favour or MIGRATE too Australia, you wont be lonely there are a lot of kiwi , and Maori living there! Respect and each too their own..Peace! |

Mar Ja thanks for all your sense in this thread, makes good reading.
I don't want to get too romantic about maori Seats, I would not want the maori party to win an election, don't mind a minor party having seats, but I wouldn't want a party that is racist (I.E got to be Maori to be in it) to be in power, I think politics should not have any reference to any ethnicity, they should be gender, and race neutral, they should be representative of the nation, so should have people from all cultures and creeds fairly represented.
A Maori party is only for Maori, therefore discriminates against non-Maori, that's racist, and should not be allowed.
Hopefully by now most ppl realise I am not racist, but having a secular party is not really on is it????
I maen in a country I once resided in we had the national party, no not John Key, they were white skin heads who believed in white supremecy, well that was total bollacks as well and should never have been allowed, they were racists to the core and hated anything non white, absolutely absurd, they even won 2 seats, God knows how.
Parties based on race should not be allowed, full stop. |

Whereasmymarbles!
Thanks for your response, that is cool! the post is designed to help others as much as yourself rather . it is better to be informed than not to be, it is the right of any person to make a choice in 2008, a democratic vote, a human right!
This forum concerning the Maori Party Political etc..has got so much information concerning what you have expressed, but it still does not give the right away the maori have in politics, it does not say what my actual political choice is, I am for advancement at any chance for the future, be it National and Minor Parties,,anyone, and its each too their own!! |

Hey Mar_ja, no offence intended to you sister, just trying to say any seat based on a race can't be right, can they???
Surely seats based on race cause division. I'm all for maori having fair representation, but do they realy need a party for only Maori, how about creating a pakeha party, or Polynesian party, or the Communist Peoples Party of China, we have enough Asians now to have their own party, but parties should not be based on race, that was rsally my only point.
Sorry Mar, wasn't poking at you :-( |

Sweet as mymarbles, but all you have mentioned is already in many other posters responses and they broadly cover what you are expressing LOL! the last twenty or so pages etc...
and I am in no way offended! There is already active parties that cover general seats! all cool, politics and so on is the happening thing at the moment and this upcoming election will be interesting because this party is already being seen as the one that will give some sort of middle ground ! each too their own bro! |

| If the Maori Party get the numbers that will put them into the holding of balance of power, what is soo wrong with it, at least certain issues can be addressed! and if the coalition is to be made, why not just test the waters, hell, its a choice for the voters, each too their own! |

wheresmymarbles63 - I was of the same opinion as you and posted as such. I received this reply from the_paua and I thought it was a good one.
<<<<Yeah but it doesn't quite work that way does it... I may vote Green, but I love my steak and have been known to chop a tree or two down, and drive a V8...
You are right you can never be Maori or a Pacific Islander, but that does not mean you can't appreciate what they are trying to do politically, and it certainly doesn't mean you can't vote for them...
The Maori Party have never said, you have to be Maori to join our party, nor have they said we don't want Pakeha involvement... and they have always said that by promotong Maori issues they firmly believe that this is good for ALL NZ...
This is politics Nicolte... it is about voting for someone or a party whose principles and policies you support and there are no idealologies or enthnicities in the polling booth, just you a voting form and a pen...
You too can vote for the Maori Party or the NZ Pacific Party... no one can or will stop you, just because your skin is pale...>>>>> |

You do not have to be a Maori to vote for the party itself, you get one vote though and you can use your other vote for someone else, I am sure that how it works. Abolish? Abolish?
In 2008 and people are speaking about abolishing? There are always the dissaffected minority who do not like to accept this countrys history, the good and the bad and the indifferent.
Chinese have been here since the gold mining days and are entitled to be here, those who have been here through the generations, just like the 'kiwi' pakeha or New Zealander or the European.
Who introduced the poll tax on the Chinese in this countrys history? It was not the Maori people. No point in recalling the country of Aotearoa-New Zealand history it is on this board in Every language possible, but there are those who do not like what they read. There are not all Maori who bludge off the system and take handouts. The gravy train? The cheek of some, everyone has an opinion and on this board some are not happy. What is a centre line in this Country? |

Thanks for helping there, I shall take my humble pie off into the corner.
I still can't fathom the need for a party based on a race, regardless of who is a member. I remember watching the news with some Pakeha supporter following round the Maori party members and to be honest he didn't look a full deck.
As I've said I'm all for Maori getting fair representation right across the board, but I don;t think their own Political party called Maori party is fair. There's no other party in government today, that are there based purely on race, nor in any other country would it probably be allowed, even Mugabe has to call his party something other than 'The black party that beats and murders whites until they all leave party'.
Political parties should be race/sex/gender/height/se xual preference/hair colour or style/clothing preference/music neutral, that's my only point I guess. |

BIRTHDAY PARTY! and celebrate when the new government is elected! Celebrate the fact that life is for living and moving forward, celebrate that we the people of Aotearoa/NZ want too advance and move ahead, and those that do not want too, well too bad it is your choice!
Accepting the past for what is was, and addressing the issues today so the idyllic NZ that all want in this country will be realised and the "vision" that is held will become a reality!
Hand in Hand, with the Maori and Non Maori alike and if the Maori Party are going to be a part of this political debate so be it, all have rights as well, so make your votes count like any like minded individual, a democratic right, and the usurping of one party or one culture is not a reality if moving forward is the ideology being expressed ??
Make the votes truly count if advancement is too happen, would you be so proactive in the real world? I know we and I are and so are many others, Maori and Non Maori alike!
Co-operation is the key and education! how hard is that to understand and acknowledge! each too their own as always!
PEACE TO ALL!! |

Aotearoa hit the headlines and NZ Music Charts in 1985 with the single Maranga Ake Ai, a call to MÄori youth to rise up and take pride in their identity. With lyrics such as, âall my life I get taught by the right of the great white way, how much longer before we get up and say?â, it was little wonder that mainstream NZ recoiled in shock.
The band toured extensively over the following four years and featured more than 30 band members in that time including Moana Maniapoto of Moana and The Moahunters, opera diva Mere Boynton, Southside of Bombay founder Kevin Hodges, Maaka McGregor of Wai, Ruia Aperahama, Joe Williams and Ngahiwi Apanui.
Apanui says,â it was a time of dynamic change in MÄori society and we felt right at the cutting edge, taking the message through the music to our people. Not a lot of money, but lots of mana.â
and these people in this band have truly moved forward and are great ROLE models for Maori and Non Maori alike!! |

so make a choice, like it or lump it---for the future or stagnation, only a question, that might be pondered by some and ignored by others??? |
