Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
I tied to look it up (google) but there doesn't seem to be a web-site yet...I'm not scared of change or minority parties - in fact I like to learn a little about them before I make up my mind...I see they are listed for this up-coming election, where are there policies?

pasefikaaotearoa

your kidding me , Why cant they set there own Party , in there own Islands , I know that Mangere would be the closest you'd ever get to been in the Islands , cause thats where most of them live.

And you Samoan and Tonga , you guys have been killing one another off for the past 60 yrs , and doing it in our country , Id like to see your party teach your people to be more considerate to fellow kiwi's as i have had some nasty experience with the somaon community when i lived in Mangere years ago. Oh and you make sound like the country owes you something ................

good luck to you and the party I hope you do well, but I have to say, I don't fancy your chances of making 5% or winning the seat with Fields... sorry for being negative, but that is my honest opinion...

But as I said, good luck to you.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
kaituna - in response to yuor challenge, I agree that " Id like to see the NZ Pacific Party help Pacific peoples teach our people to be more considerate, in the way they allow ignorance and narrow mindedness 'control the minds of ... fellow kiwi's as i have had some nasty experience with them since I have lived here for many years! -NZ does owe us respect and fair treatment, not racist minds like yours. In your silly comments on Tongans and Samoans fighting, what are you insinuating? That your lot is free from a history of fighting and killing? You waste time on debating prejudiced ideas. My advice to you is cut the nonsense and make friends with Samoans and Tongans. They might learn to like you then.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
what ever pasefika , i was gang bashed by a group of big built islander's (samoans) going thru my pockets and taking everything i had , however i was very lucky that good kiwi citizens maori and pakeha came to my rescue.

Police arrived , i was also lucky that one bystander knew one of these thugs , and all were apprehended. so dont tell me im racist....i have no sympathy for your topic and totally disagree. because of that incident i now look at most islanders especially the fresh one , and i think you know what i mean. "NO Brain" thought they were still in the islands i guess.
The other thing is some islanders go to church every sunday so they can repent there sins for what happened between Monday and Saturday... get real.

No. Can't go for it!!!

I must be a racist because I don't think we should have political parties based entirely on race, and yep, that includes the Maori Party.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
the_paua, what would be the point of them doing this, they represent a party that does not represent them, is is just me, or does that not make a lot of sense?

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
One thing that concerns me about the Pacific Party is that Polynesians tend to vote for 'their own' out of loyalty and because it is expected of them.
Other important factors such as policies and experience are not taken into consideration - because the fact that Taitoa is Samoan for example, is enough to sway the majority of Samoan voters.

There are some clever Pakeha out there who recognise that the Maori Party's presence in Parliament is good for all of NZ...

such is politics... some clever people vote National and some clever people vote Labour... and I'm sure that they struggle to understand why from each other's perspectives as well... :-)

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
nicolte

I struggle understanding why a party based upon race is a bad thing... we have parties based upon religeon, idealolgies like the Greens, and Financial positioning like ACT... all parties have a reason to exist... whats wrong with race as a reason????

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
i guess because if i feel strongly enough about something i.e conservation, then i can vote for the Greens, if I become very wealthy i can vote for ACT, no matter what colour, race or creed i am i can do this, but i can NEVER be Maori as this is an ethnicity, not an ideology.

Incidentally, i do not believe that religion should have ANYTHING to do with politics, mankinds history has been down this road before and it lead to nothing good, they should always have been mutually exclusive entities.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
there are some relevant points here. A party based purely on race is not a good idea. If there was a 'pakeha' party there would be hell to pay. I think i understand the reason for the Maori party, although it also sits slightly uneasily with me. I have not heard anything from Field, except to see his poster around the place.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
Fialemaa - I just looked up the link I requested and while there are some policies which understandably represent and will benefit the pacific people of our nation, there are also others which I believe a broad range of NZers would benefit from and support.

There are a few that I do disagree with, strongly. However, Philip Taito Fields has a lot of support in his constituent and if he can spread his message to his target audience he may well regain a seat under MMP.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
thanks spida

I read the link. i do wonder whether Field is the man to lead this party given his recent controversies. However he is probably the most high profile and will rely heavily on a cultural vote to win his seat.
