Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
sweet as pasefikaaotearoa :-)

I liked your posting on the Maori language thread about being taught Te Reo in the NZ school system, too bad we are in a such a very small minority on this, I believe it could have SO MANY benefits to NZ and New Zealanders on a whole.

Kia Orana pasifika and WHKB1

as i i live in the Maungakiekie electorate, i wish you all the best with your endeavours and hope the pacific island community get out and vote and make sure they give their party vote to Winstons NZFirst party. ... smiles.
As a first time NZFirst voter, and a polynesian of Takitumu descent,im not going to apologize for voting NZFirst(party vote) as i cannot see the Labour candidate loosing this electorate so im all out getting party votes for Winston anyway i can ...;))

Good Luck with the Pacifika Party.

Kia Manuia and Maruru

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
Good on your courage to appear her and say your piece tiare. However, I would ask you to think about Pasefika for a change. Winstone has had his day in the sun, and made a reasonable go or hash of it depending on which side you are on. Give Taito and the NZ Pacific Party a chance to become part of our political landscape here in Aotearoa. We need to have more people of similar cultural perspectives as Pita Sharples, who has shown tremendous political courage and nous! I admire him -he appreciates also what the Pacific Party would do if it does get into parliament. I suggest the two parties would gel. Thats something positive to plan for.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
Over 2000 people in NZ (mainly in Mangere and Auckland) would have donated and raised funds for the party, chemmy and I guess that should assist the party in putting up boards etc. You might like to donate some.

Too right pasefikaaotearoa.

I'm from Mangere myself and tend to see the P.P (Pacific Party) flags flying everywhere. Great to see that P.I's are going to vote. because I know a few who would rather not.

"By the way, imagine what would happen when the Maori Party (and people) join forces with NZ Pasefika Party (once it gets going...yes you can laugh, for now, but mark these words, IT WILL HAPPEN."

With all due respect, but what do you THINK will happen?

Both parties will get what... FIVE PERCENT? SIX percent of the vote? I think the major parties won't be losing sleep over the Pasifika party just yet.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
NO, Taito has not been found guilty. It was a media beat up for over 1 year that he 'was 'guilty', so much so that every man and his dog came out and was ready to sue him 'on sight'-such was the vicious campaign conducted by the media. Even Winston's saga of a few days ago did not last anywhere near the length that Taito suffered.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
It's a whole lot more civilised than the 'jumping up and down' by the lot thats in there now - dancing and yelling like a bunch of kids. Seriously though, its a numbers game and to have influence in an MMP invironment is what power is about currently. Its how the 'democratic' form of governance ought to be used by minorities - and has been by Winstone P and soon, the Maori Party. The NZ Pacific Party would logically work closer to Maori as they essentially share similar notions of sharing and supporting 'others' in relationships. This is what I mean. Sitting on their a.r.s.e.s may have to be the beginning stage in the process of learning how to use that power to their advantage, so yes, its a good suggestion.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
The problem I have with this new political animal called the Pacific Party is that it seems to be founded on one person's bruised ego, instead of what it claims to represent and exist for, i.e. the interests of the Pacific Island people in NZ. Phillip Field was shown the door by his former party and then he spat the dummy and created his own party. But as the recent elections have shown: you can't separate the political party from the man.

Is there a genuine need for the Pacific Party? I believe a party like the Maori Party's reason for existing is a genuine and solid one. Unlike the Maori people, the Pacific Island people and their culture have not been severely crippled by colonialism. At the moment, the Pacific Island NZers/Kiwis have good, or will soon have strong and qualified, leaders representing them in Parliament, e.g. I'iga and Sio, Laban, through the main parties of National and Labour.

If there was a genuine need for such a party as this new Pacific party at the moment, then I would see the validity in it, but in this case I think it's a joke. Division just for the sake of division.

This is the problem with the MMP version of democracy, any idiot can create a party and influence government.

Re:NZ Pacific Party Reply to this message
Strange to see him float a party and contest election. All he managed to do is break an insignificantly tiny portion of the Labour votes. Mr Philips should have actually been in prison for what he has done. The judiciary system in New Zealand is a circus. That's the reason he is out. I hope the National Govt gets strict with the offenders and have Maryann Thompson, Mr Philip and even the Kahui's in a permanent spot in Mt Eden.
