Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
Why does it really matter to anyone of us if two people of the same sex get married? It will not end their lifestyles. Who are we to say that it is wrong? The bible does not run this country, though it may be a focus point for personal and family life for many. If two people love each other then let it be. Has anyone thought that marriage of gays of lesbians might decrese in the spread of diseases such as AIDS? If they are exclusive be law then maybe they would stick to that one partner. No one knows what would happen except that those that love one another could publicly express that through marriage. Look at all the divorces of heterosexuals, how could this make anything worse? I believe that it is discrimination to not allow them to express themselves because they are not heterosexual. That is like telling someone they can not have a job because they are not like the majority of people in the workplace. Open your eyes America and see that we do not have the right to interfere in lives of others, instead we need to focus on our own problems in our own lives. Let them be! I am a married mother of three and I would totally support my children if the were with a person of the same sex!

Re:Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
IMO It's a moral issue.

IE, Just imagine (A muscular guy with another muscular guy)
is sick. NZ should be a place where there are many parents around taking their children to anywhere, ie, shopping, picnics, parks, schools etc. That's a much better pleasant sight.

And, that's for the purpose of marriage-

A male and a female commit to one another that they would be together for the rest of their lives, and to have children together to form a family.

Actually, why do gays and lesbians couple need marriage?

Re:Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
Actually the 'foundational' reason for marriage is tied into property laws and the wife became (in the 'foundational' days) one of the chattels of the husband. Gays and lesbians have every right to make a legal contract in the same way that hetrosexuals do. To make a public celebration of it is also their right. Are you God? No! Of course you arent- so dont try and be a god by judging over others.

Re:Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
Stop bringing God into the argument against gay marriage.
Gay men and women have EVERY RIGHT to enjoy the social and legal benefits of marriage just the same as we do.
Its not a moral issue. In fact the only moral aspect of the arguement is that some people think they have the right to limit the oppertunites of others just because they dont like it. And should my boys ever see a gay couple holding hands at the supermarket, they will be informed enough to not think anything of it.

Why shouldn't gay and lesbian couples be afforded the same rights as heterosexual couples. We're all human beings.

Osiris, never said gay's could not make a legal contract, did not say they could not celerbrate, did not say they would not make great care givers, made no judgement at all in my statement. Did say man, did say women, did say "marriage." (Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate mark10:6-9)

Remember Marriage is not an idea thought by human being.

It was ordained by God.

If there wasnt such a word "Marriage", we wouldn\t think of having one "partner". Instead, this whole world will be a mess.

Re:Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
This is the same country that allows DRUNK couples (and people who have only just met) - to get a marriage licence in a matter of minutes and get married at fast food style, drive through 'churches' conducted by Elvis impersonators ... Yet loving couples who put alot of thought into every aspect of their relationship (especially parenting) are denied their CIVIL RIGHTS by a self serving majority. Why? - because this law doesn't affect their lives. This is why HUMAN CIVIL RIGHTS laws need to be passed by a higher court - not the public.

Re:Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
Why should straight couples have more rights than gay couples? There is nothing wrong with being gay and falling in love with a person the same sex as you. It is wrong to end the rights for two people in love to be able to get married and spend the rest of their lives together. The people who are against it- what would you do if your child came up to you and said they were gay? Would you disown them? If yes then you are obviously a sad judgemental person. These people give up alot by coming out of the closet, and then have people like you putting them down. Leave them alone and give them their rights back

Re:Banning of gay and lesbian marriage Reply to this message
MIKEHUNT77 - People get married for all types of reasons. It is 2008. Many people are not Christian's or religious. Law abiding individuals have an absolute right to live their private lives the way they want and love the person they love, without having to seek permission from their neighbours. Straight folk need to get over their slight obsession with the SEX lives of gay and lesbian people. The reality is we are sitting together on the couch everynight watching Shortland Street (or whatever) like everyone else. Real life is not a porn film.
