| Solution For Piracy: UN-backed Navy and Airforce run by Russia (can't trust PC-tossers in POM or US forces' establishments). Call sign, then shot across bows, then if no white flag, blown out of the water like the Bismarck did to the Hood. Or A10 tank-buster. Shoot to kill policy at all times if no immediate surrender. (No Human Rights B.sht please). Follow ships back to base then strafe the cr.ap out of the place. No reports of "civilian" casualties - terrorists and pirates conveniently have human shield families to make YOU feel guilty not them. The old British Navy cleaned up the Persian Gulf in the 1800's, easy! |

| Nice try. Sadly the UN are probably the most ineffective force you could pick for this sort of duty and they are always involved in police actions with strict and somewhat toothless rules of engagement - can't fire unless fired at first, must issue warning before engaging - all sorts of rubbish. The pirates usually raid in small boats with RPGs and fast enough response with air cover would be difficult. Now a really good, relatively small and well armed marine unit on all ships that could blow a small boat out of the water would be easier, cheaper and far more efective. |

| A10 American? - gosh where was I in the Gulf war. I mean you have to have the UN bless it otherwise all the lefties will accuse you of doing a Bush. Then you put Putin in charge of the kit. The West will be too worried about an accidental casualty or they will show pictures of the pirates' extended families etc etc |

Same thing as I would do to whaling ships.
Blow them out of the water, strafe any survivors.
$100 million worth of oil bye bye.
Hostages? sorry too bad.
Ships at the bottom of the sea.
Zero profits.
Couple of private submarines would do it.
No warning. Identify target
BANG - A - BOOM |

| Good on the Indian Navy! No mucking about there - one chance then Poof! Used heavy guns too - excellent. OK, maybe we don't need Putin after all. The Brits and Yanks would still be sending messages to the politicians asking for permission to open fire - with the smallest guns they have in case they hurt someone. |

| Blow them out of the water and leave them for the predators of the sea. That's exactly what these pirates would do, no compassion. Only problem is you'd have all these bleeding heart god-botherers spouting off about these pirates rights etc. and saying that we sould "forgive them of their sins". Yeah, right!!!!! |

| And why not alex, consider the small cost in protecting a ship like this supertanker against the value of the cargo. Can you imagine the environmental damage that would happen if these pirates didn't get their way and scuttled the tanker??? I think it would be a small price to pay having security onboard compared to how much shipping companies have to fork out in "ransom". |

| Give 24hours notice for the Port of Eyl to be abandoned due to intended attack. Launch Tomahawk Cruise missiles and flatten the port thus depriving the Pirates of a base. ALL shipping travelling that area to be equipped with deck guns such as 50calibre machine guns and fifty soldiers. 24 hour surveillance by drones and helicopters with an increase in warships in the area. Russia to be kept as far out of the conflict as possible. Her navy is obsolete and kills more of its own crews than it helps. |

| Yes, that's what we need - the Kormoran solution. Deck out a ship like the Kormoran that sunk the Sydney. Let the pirates get close, then drop the fake bulwarks and train Bofors and Gatling fire on them. A few like this and the pirates will crawl back home. As was said "They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring!" |

| Randomly arm the merchant ships with men and weapons so the Pirates are outnumbered. If they cannot tell which vessels are armed they won't try. |

nice call inbound but I read somewhere that merchant vessels cannot be armed .
there are up to 5 navies in that area of Somalia !!!offshore
what gets me this has been going on for yrs.
once again the weak nations of the world sit back and wait for the US to do something then sit back and criticize them for what ever they do .
We can't do much as our frigates are rooted.Let alone trying to find someone to crew the bloo dy things.
Funny thing is touch and oil tanker and all hell breaks loose? |

| Mike...I am unaware of that ruling regards arming of merchantmen....if that is the case then in order to fix this problem it seems the only viable alternative to effectively solve it. I mean if the Pirates have to risk losing their men and boats when they encounter one of the armed merchantmen then they can only sustain such losses for a limited time. From a psychological viewpoint the pirates see less of their friends returning and therefore the risk for them personally becomes too great. |

| If they don't know which merchantmen are armed then again it all becomes a huge risk for them...do they want to lose their lives and equipment or do they want the ship they have targetted. The odds become reversed in our favour. |

I totally agree with you. Put soldiers with rocket launchers and heavy machine guns on the cargo ships.
When the pirates get nice and close they pop up their heads and let them have it. Chase the survivors back to the mother ship and then phone up a warship to finish the job. Would work a treat. |
