School Uniforms Reply to this message
Hey which would you rather a cheaper or an expensive one with a trademarked crest for goodness sake. I had to by my son a pair of dress pants with a crest on it which cost over $70 over a cheaper brand which looked the same.

Here is my point.... I had to pay for a crest that is embroidered on the inside of the belt loops. total unseen when my son is wearing a belt and not even seen without the belt as he wears dress shirt untucked, craziness make a parent for that!!

And not only that the crest wouldn't have been very expensive to do. Just schools trying to rip people off as usual. would be way cheaper to just let them wear mufti

Re:School Uniforms Reply to this message
Yeah i would really like to know how much profit schools make on uniforms as i've had to replace my childs uniform atleast 3x over just this year due to theft from other school kids taking my childs clothing out of their school bag and removing the name tags so they don't have to pay for their own. Also schools really don't take any responsibility if clothing is stolen they prefer to put the blame on your child by saying they left it laying around....sure sometimes that happens but when your child comes home and say's that the clothing was removed from their bag....the school should take responsiblity for that and replace the items free of charge!

Well when I went to school, 2 skirts, 3 shirts and one jersey came to over $500.00. It's a rip off!

Don't forget PE gear. T-shirts and shorts, oh and now they have to wear school hats sun hats that have the school logo if they dont have the school logo then they aren't allowed to wear them which is aload of croak because the whole reason the hats wear made compulsary was to protect their heads from the sun. Who gives a sh1t if the damn logo aint on it. It's about money!

Re:School Uniforms Reply to this message
My daughters go to different colleges. One school runs a uniform shop and one doesnt. The uniform from the school uniform shop is a far better quality than the one from a local retailer and didnt cost as much. I guess some schools put more effort into sourcing uniform than others. Some retailers can be very expensive and not offer the best quality. At the end of the day the retailers are just out to make a profit. I am still very pleased that we have uniforms in the schools because I would hate to outfit my daughters to their tastes for every day of the year!

Re:School Uniforms Reply to this message
Boy.... do I want to get my teeth into this subject, reading your comments wiggley I understood where you were coming from regards cost of a crest, then you said... his dress shirt is worn untucked?? this is the whole reason I am adding my thoughts to this subject. When I was at School we had to have socks pulled up, tunics knee lenght, Cap/hat on before leaving the school grounds, AND... there were Prefects at the gates checking, as a pupil this all seemed unimportant to us at the time, BUT.. it taught us to take pride in our appearance, the uniform represented the School and we were taught to be proud of the fact and to respect what our School stood for. You drive past any given School these days and the students look scruffy, unkept and a disgrace, one reason these day for lack of pride and respect.

my old high school was similar to that golfers, but my current high school has a lax uniform, which I think is OK.

Re:School Uniforms Reply to this message
My little girl is in year1 at primary school. She wears a school uniform and I love it, saves on the washing, saves in the clothes and shoes. As long as their uniform is named the school has one teacher dedicated to returning their bits and bobs to them. My child is terrible for leaving her things in the playground and has always had her jacket and shoes bought to her class.

They have to wear a cap in the summer terms, this can be a hazard due to nits etc and they all look the same. What I did was to sew some coloured buttons on the cap so she can identify her one. They used to keep them in a hat box now they have a hat rack due to kootoos infestations.

Re:School Uniforms Reply to this message
Im not against the school uniform, I do think it makes them look alot less scruffy but the price's that some of the schools charge for uniforms seems really unfair. A pair of socks cost $18 you multiply that by 10 for a year that's pretty expensive. (thats how many pairs my boy went thru).

My childs last school wasn't as expensive & their uniform was of higher quality than the one he is going to now, but if schools make a profit from uniforms then they should have to declare how much they do make to the parents. I'd like to know.

Re:School Uniforms Reply to this message
I have no problem with uniform, but if i am going to pay an extra $50 for a crest, i think it should be visable not under a belt, i just thought is was silly and a rip off, my son wears his shirt untucked because it is like an orderly type shirt, not rounded at the bottom

What a classic! I am a teacher, and that's the kind of comment we pass around in the staff room.

"My child didn't lose it-someone went into his bad and stole it! I know it's true because he told me!"

lol, brilliant!

And it only gets better-the school should replace free of charge any uniform "stolen" from a child's bag on the strength of the child's claim that it was stolen.

As for the profit the school is making-yes, it probably runs into the millions. The staff are hoarding it in a Swiss bank account and will any day retire to the Bahama's
