| The massive growth in extremes of porn can be attributed to the growth of access to the internet. This enables censorship to be avoided and the sort of disgusting acts you mentioned to reach a wider audience. However, the sort of person who is aroused by that sort of thing has always existed, they have just had to find their material elsewhere. To suggest that B.O.B. is going to encourage that kind of behaviour is, frankly, ridiculous. And I very much doubt that Mr Crow will have anything like that at the Erotica Expo. Personally, I have never become desensitised to a nice pair of breasts... |

Care to add some proof to that statement. Would you accept a link between increased violence in our society and what we see routinely on television and in video games?
What scared me as a child would be seen as funny by kids today; sexual content that embarrasses my mother would be seen as tame by most 10 year olds today. |

| Adding proof goes both ways Tommy. Show me proof that someone has become desensitised to porn because of seeing some breasts and then turned to something highly perverted to get their rocks off. Yes, there are people out there who have those leanings but to suggest that B.O.B. drove them to it is, I repeat, ridiculous. Different things turn different people on. Perversion has always been there and some go further than others. But to say that seeing some breasts is going to make me go out and shag a small animal is, again, ridiculous. People have really taken this much to far and extended the impact of the event to unrealistic proportions. |

Secker
That's not what I was saying - have not said that seeing breasts or the existence of a parade of old men and semi naked bimbos is in itself a problem - it's a symptom of a far deeper malaise.
"but to say that seeing some breasts is going to make me go out and shag a small animal is, again, ridiculous."
Yes - had I said that, it would be ridiculous, especially in light of the fact that the vast majority of humans see breasts from the day they are born.
It's not the naked breasts that are the problem but the social context and manner in which they are displayed. |

| Pasada, point taken. Do you accept, then, that even if you take away the context, you will still have people that will act in an obscene manner and objectify women purely because that is a personality trait they have? Blaming pornography or the context in which it is shown is not really the answer. Finding the imbalance within a person that makes them act that way and understanding the mental cause of their behaviour should surely be a priority? If the portrayal of pornography was to blame then surely just about every male on the planet would be abusing females. The inability to seperate fact from fiction is more likely to blame. |

"If the portrayal of pornography was to blame then surely just about every male on the planet would be abusing females."
You assume an awful lot secker - are you really suggesting that just about every male on the planet watches/reads porn? I imagine there are quite a few men for whom just surviving takes up most of their time, energy and money.
From what I have seen of pornography - which isn't a great deal and purely in the interest of academic research (yes honestly) - it's almost always - gawky - for want of a better word - and about as erotic as a fried egg sandwich.
I think what attracts some people to porn is that the way sexual relationships are stripped of all complexity and intimacy - reduced to a comic book level with absurd and contrived story lines / photos etc involving stereotypical and dehuma.nised figures. Let's face it, they are mostly one step up from a blow up doll or - thing the censor won't let me mention.
And yes, you are right to the extent that there are some people who will be - for whatever reason - more predisposed to improper conduct than others. The same is true for exposure to violence. But where do you draw the line?
BTW why do we refer to 'porn stars' and 'porn magnates'? The former either have or simulate having sex or whatever and usually have about as much acting ability as a hamburger. And the latter are hardly captains of industry. |

| For the sake of brevity one must often generalise. So for your benefit, Pasada, what I meant was surely every male in a civilised society with ready access to pornography would be abusing females. Please, try not to over-specify every comment I make. Males are very visual, so we don't really bother about the noted lack of acting ability prevalent in the porn industry. We just enjoy the pictures. |

Perversion will exist and probably prosper with or without B.O.B's. Even if there are inextricable ties from watching porn > increased child and spousal sexual abuse (or any abuse really), would having no porn decrease this?
As humans (i.e. imperfect over-intelligent primates) need a fuse or 2 to blow? Libido, exists as much as our "selves", it needs, encouragement, growth as much as control and reining in. But to neglect it, is as dangerous if not more so than over-stimulating it.I watched it, for 2 hours, I had a buzz, then went back to reality, there is no change in the social order... |

| If all the women in the parade had been old, fat, ugly or combinations of the three (sorry for not being PC here), would the crowds be as big? The parade was just an excuse for men to come out and perve at women's breasts, plain and simple. I am old fashioned and believe breasts and genitals are private parts. Breast feeding a young baby under 6 months old is natural and right, and when you are out with your baby it needs to be fed. Breastfeeding women should also be discreet and dignified about feeding in public, its okay to do it, but cover up or go to a private area. I think people of both sexes lack self respect, and contrary to popular opinion, we are not animals. Pornography is designed purely for sexual arousal. And rampant promiscuity comes at a very very high price - just think about it!! |

| nivah5 would have thought that was fairly obvious however will clarify, most kids are in School when BOB do their parade, and won't see or hear of it, unlike a pamphlet telling you the hows and whys of anal sex etc and then explained in classroom to 14 year olds. |

Oh come on now Secker - if you make a sweeping generalisation you can't blame me for picking you up on it.
Anyway - I'm bored with this topic unless someone can come up with something new - like explaining what an expedition has to do with anything. |

| Perhaps they mean 'exhibition'. If you are'nt going to allow me to make some generalisations then you will need to prepare yourself for some very long winded posts as I have to cover every possible exception to the rule. I don't really want to bore people that much. I do a good enough job of that already. |

Oh go on then. I guess I can make an exception.
A naive 'exhibition' - but why the three exclamation marks I wonder.
Maybe it was referring to my post and was meant to be 'exposition' - which, in light of the topic, would have a certain punny relevance. |
