| The most disturbing question requiring an answer from XTR is this. If we are not to feel disgust or revulsion for Israeli's, who according to the last poll fully support their government,and which it elected and its subsequent and previous actions,are we then to feel happy and joyous at the IDF's abilities of the wanton destruction of Gaza, its heinous treatment of Palestinians such as shooting submissive restrained palestinians in the feet at point blank range with rubber bullets? Are we to praise them and support them for shooting Palestinians who walk with white flags of surrender? Are we to praise and support them for beating seventy year old women with pick axe handles? Are we to praise and support them for shooting women and children at point blank range, killing whole families in front of the Palestinian male head of the household? Smashing teenagers hands with rifle butts who throw stones or even hacking their arms off with machetes? Do we run out on the streets shouting glory to God because they blockade Gaza thus starving innocent civilians of water, electricity, food and medical supplies and deny them building materials so they can get shelter? Does XTR expect us to feel nothing regarding the consensus of Israeli's who condone such acts as the above? Tell us XTR! PLEASE EXPLAIN YOURSELF.How are we supposed to feel according to your intellectually superior thinking? |

But Rubinstein's conclusions rest not on facts, but on mythology. This is like a Greek judge basing his verdicts on tales of Zeus on Mount Olympus. Ben-Gurion's stated desire for truth and integrity was implemented in a very selective manner. While some people were punished severely for every minor deviation from the straight and narrow, Ben-Gurion carefully averted his eyes from the iniquities of others whom he liked - first and foremost the man whom Rubinstein so admires, Moshe Dayan, that champion thief of everything from chickens to antiquities, not to mention offenses against his lovers' husbands. For their next ruling, perhaps the justices will seek out hypocritical quotes from Dayan - a serial violator of discipline both as an officer and chief of staff - about the need for others to maintain discipline.
But because the justices were hearing a case about an officer whose ambiguous order to a soldier led the latter to shoot a bound Palestinian in the foot in order to intimidate him, Rubinstein devoted most of his attention to the IDF's attitude toward its enemies. This was the ostensible basis for the link between Ben-Gurion and the desecration of God's name. In the words of one rabbinic authority cited by Rubinstein: "Deviant and cruel acts toward our enemies by us, even if their goal is to prevent harm to us, are liable to result in the desecration of God's name, [whose test lies] in whether the action accords with or deviates from what non-Jews expect of us, in the ethical norms they ascribe to us in this action."
Rubinstein - who has spent the last 45 years in the defense, diplomatic and legal establishments, and knows about everything that happened in this country before then - surely remembers Ben-Gurion's forgiving attitude toward the criminals of the IDF and the Border Police in the massacre at Kafr Qasem. And that is only part of the story. There is also no record of any response whatsoever by Ben-Gurion to a nauseating incident in which Egyptia ... |

| Egyptian captives and civilians were murdered in the 1956 Sinai Campaign by paratroopers who served under Ariel Sharon and Rafael Eitan, and who later told about this incident. If Ben-Gurion even knew what was happening under his nose in Dayan's IDF, or the noses of the other five chiefs of staff who served under him, he was not shocked, did not administer punishments, did not order every recruit and fighter put through a rigorous course of education, did not demand that these ills be eradicated (and that includes the hazing of soldiers, while we are on the subject of human dignity). |

Biden was asked on ABC's This Week whether the US would stand in the way militarily if the Israelis decided they needed to take out Iran's nuclear program.
The US "cannot dictate to another sovereign nation what they can and cannot do," he said.
"Israel can determine for itself - it's a sovereign nation - what's in their interest and what they decide to do relative to Iran and anyone else," he said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

"Whether we agree or not, they're entitled to do that. Any sovereign nation is entitled to do that. But there is no pressure from any nation that's going to alter our behavior as to how to proceed," Biden added.
"If the Netanyahu government decides to take a course of action different than the one being pursued now, that is their sovereign right to do that. That is not our choice," he said.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government says it prefers to see Iran's nuclear program stopped through diplomacy, but has not ruled out a military strike.
Asked about Biden's comments, Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the US position on Iran and a military strike involved a "political decision."

| Er...Bob....the press secretary for the State Dpartment clarified as did Biden himself that A GREEN LIGHT WAS NOT GIVEN TO ISRAEL TO ATTACK IRAN.No nation will stand by and let Israel do that particularly when Israel has stated it will use low yield nukes. Biden more or less told Israel it is on its own and whatever consequences befall it are theirs to wear. US and EU will not be there for back up. The mission has already been assessed as unattainable and would fail to meet the required objective and the consequences are too unknown to risk it. But Bob...you know me.....let Israel have at it....my popcorn is ready.....it will be the best laugh I have had in a while watching Israels face when the repercussion come home to roost......Israel will not need to settle Palestinian land ever again.....Israel proper will have plenty of readily prepared new sites for building courtesy of Iran. |
