A major Pakistani military offensive in the northwest has killed up to 700 militants in the past four days, and the operation will proceed until the last Taleban fighter in the area is ousted, the country's top civilian security official said yesterday.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Smooth...Iran is setting up to buy the Chinese version of the S-300 which incorporates technology of the Russian S-300 PLUS American Patriot missile system and is more effective than the Russian basic S-300 or 400. If you read the news you would know that Smooth. You would also know that Iran has manufactured its own version of the S-300 system capable of hitting multiple targets. You would also know if you kept yourself informed that Israel has been blocked from getting access to the F-35 computer system plus the purchase of the aircraft due to the cost being prohibitive. America is not prepared to fund $100 MILLION PER AIRCRAFT X 75 Aircraft.Israels only option is the upgraded F15 SILENT EAGLE which is nowhere near the capability of the F-35.Israel cannot get the F-22 Raptor either. You may also find part of Israels problem is America has discovered that Israel has been selling American weapons technology to China. Like I said...you are free to make yourself look as ridiculous as you want.

If you watched Chas Freeman on HardTalk on BBC last night you would have heard his closaing statement Smooth. Israel is not calling the shots. American and Israeli interests differ a lot today and the biggest problem is Israels Rightist government which is indirect conflict with what Americans believe or want. America holds the purse strings.....America calls the shots which is why Israel is in a panic and behind the scenes they are doing all they can to sabotage the process and Obama knows it and has clearly stated he will not stand for any more stalling.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Oren, a historian from the Shalem Center whom Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tapped for Israel's top diplomatic post, described a country rotten to the core, riddled by everything from drug dealing to white slavery, from money laundering to illegal arms trading.

He reported that not even the army has escaped the clutches of corruption, thus weakening Israelis' will to fight for their country, or even to live in it. Moreover, Oren complained, Israel's best and brightest are being persecuted around the world for what the country's detractors term "war crimes."

Upon reading this article (which was written before he was appointed to his ambassadorial post), American Jews will also learn that the Jewish people will soon lose Jerusalem as its eternal capital, as this city, too, is under existential threat: A majority of Jerusalem's inhabitants (272,000 Arabs and 200,000 ultra-Orthodox, out of a total of 800,000 residents) are not Zionists; secular Jews are fleeing the city; and fully half of Israel's youth have never even visited the holy city.

According to Oren, "if this trend continues, [Israeli founding father David] Ben Gurion's nightmare will materialize and Israel will be rendered soulless, a country in which a great many Jews may not want to live or for which they may not be willing to give their lives."

The United Nations Security Council unanimously endorsed a statement Monday calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state and pushing for Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations in Moscow this year under the auspices of the UN's Middle East Quartet.

The council, under Russia's leadership, also agreed that previous bilateral negotiations should be regarded as irreversible.

"The outcome reflects our common interest that talks resume as soon as possible," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters after the meeting.

He added that future talks between the Palestinians and the new Israeli government should be resumed "not from square one."

Israeli officials did not attend the Security Council meeting, citing an internal policy review by the new government ahead of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's scheduled meetings with US President Barack Obama next week in Washington.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Israeli UN envoy Gabriela Shalev added in a statement that Israel also objects to Security Council involvement in the peace process.

"This process should be bilateral and left to the parties themselves," Shalev said in a statement.

Lavrov said he did not believe the Security Council needed to wait until all party countries had formulated their own policies and then mediate ex post facto.

"We have made use of the prestige of the Security Council to lay out what the international community wants," Lavrov said. "This to a certain extent will play a role impacting the approach of those who have not yet adopted a policy."

Three of the Quartet countries - Britain, France and Russia - were represented at UN headquarters by their foreign ministers, while the US was represented by UN Ambassador Susan Rice, who holds cabinet rank.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Rice said at the Security Council session that the US was committed to speeding progress toward peace. She reiterated comments made last week by special US peace envoy George Mitchell, who said the Obama administration intends to integrate the Arab peace plan, which calls for a return to pre-1967 borders, into its approach.

Rice called on Israel to halt settlement growth, dismantle outposts and allow Palestinians freedom of movement, and repeated her call on the Palestinian Authority to rein in Hamas terrorists, asking Arab leaders to help.

"The United States cannot be left to do all the heavy lifting by itself, and other countries, including Jordan, must do all that they can to shore up our common efforts," Rice said.

Smooth why not start your own thread on the Swat Valley and Pakistan. I think it is a great job the Pakistani's are doing against the Taleban. But then how many times have they got this far and blown it in the past. Hopefully America has kicked them sufficiently this time to keep them on task.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
thought you might find this intresting.
In the paper today (Jerusalem Post).
Obama's green light to attack Iran
May. 7, 2009

Caroline Glick , THE JERUSALEM POST

Arctic winds are blowing into Jerusalem from Washington these days. As Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's May 18 visit to Washington fast approaches, the Obama administration is ratcheting up its anti-Israel rhetoric and working feverishly to force Israel into a corner.

Using the annual AIPAC conference as a backdrop, this week the Obama administration launched its harshest onslaught against Israel to date. It began with media reports that National Security Adviser James Jones told a European foreign minister that the US is planning to build an anti-Israel coalition with the Arabs and Europe to compel Israel to surrender Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem to the Palestinians.
According to Haaretz, Jones was quoted in a classified foreign ministry cable as having told his European interlocutor, "The new administration will convince Israel to compromise on the Palestinian question. We will not push Israel under the wheels of a bus, but we will be more forceful toward Israel than we have been under Bush."
He then explained that the US, the EU and the moderate Arab states must determine together what "a satisfactory endgame solution," will be.

As far as Jones is concerned, Israel should be left out of those discussions and simply presented with a fait accompli that it will be compelled to accept.

Rather lengthy sorry....

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Events this week showed that Jones's statement was an accurate depiction of the administration's policy. First, quartet mediator Tony Blair announced that within six weeks the US, EU, UN and Russia will unveil a new framework for establishing a Palestinian state. Speaking with Palestinian reporters on Wednesday, Blair said that this new framework will be a serious initiative because it "is being worked on at the highest level in the American administration."

Moreover, this week we learned that the administration is trying to get the Arabs themselves to write the Quartet's new plan. The London-based Al-Quds al-Arabi pan-Arab newspaper reported Tuesday that acting on behalf of Obama, Jordanian King Abdullah urged the Arab League to update the so-called Arab peace plan from 2002. That plan, which calls for Israel to withdraw from Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the Golan Heights and accept millions of foreign Arabs as citizens as part of the so-called "right of return" in exchange for "natural" relations with the Arab world, has been rejected by successive Israeli governments as a diplomatic subterfuge whose goal is Israel's destruction.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
By accepting millions of so-called "Palestinian refugees," Israel would effectively cease to be a Jewish state. By shrinking into the 1949 armistice lines, Israel would be unable to defend itself against foreign invasion. And since "natural relations" is a meaningless term both in international legal discourse and in diplomatic discourse, Israel would have committed national suicide for nothing.

To make the plan less objectionable to Israel, Abdullah reportedly called on his Arab brethren to strike references to the so-called "Arab refugees" from the plan and to agree to "normal" rather than "natural" relations with the Jewish state. According to the report, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was expected to present Obama with the changes to the plan during their meeting in Washington later this month. The revised plan was supposed to form the basis for the new Quartet plan that Blair referred to.

But the Arabs would have none of it. On Wednesday, both Arab League General Secretary Amr Moussa and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas announced that they oppose the initiative. On Thursday, Syria rejected making any changes in the document.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
The administration couldn't care less. The Palestinians and Arabs are no more than bit players in its Middle East policy. As far as the Obama administration is concerned, Israel is the only obstacle to peace.

To make certain that Israel understands this central point, Vice President Joseph Biden used his appearance at the AIPAC conference to drive it home. As Biden made clear, the US doesn't respect or support Israel's right as a sovereign state to determine its own policies for securing its national interests. In Biden's words, "Israel has to work toward a two-state solution. You're not going to like my saying this, but not build more settlements, dismantle existing outposts and allow the Palestinians freedom of movement."

FOR ISRAEL, the main event of the week was supposed to be President Shimon Peres's meeting with Obama on Tuesday. Peres was tasked with calming the waters ahead of Netanyahu's visit. It was hoped that he could introduce a more collegial tone to US-Israel relations.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
What Israel didn't count on was the humiliating reception Peres received from Obama. By barring all media from covering the event, Obama transformed what was supposed to be a friendly visit with a respected and friendly head of state into a back-door encounter with an unwanted guest, who was shooed in and shooed out of the White House without a sound.

The Obama White House's bald attempt to force Israel to take full blame for the Arab world's hostility toward it is not the only way that it is casting Israel as the scapegoat for the region's ills. In their bid to open direct diplomatic ties with Iran, Obama and his advisers are also blaming Israel for Iran's nuclear program. They are doing this both indirectly and directly.

As Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel made clear in his closed-door briefing to senior AIPAC officials this week, the administration is holding Israel indirectly responsible for Iran's nuclear program. It does this by claiming that Israel's refusal to cede its land to the Palestinians is making it impossible for the Arab world to support preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Somewhat inconveniently for the administration, the Arabs themselves are rejecting this premise. This week US Defense Secretary Robert Gates visited the Persian Gulf and Egypt to soothe Arab fears that the administration's desperate attempts to appease the mullahs will harm their security interests. He also sought to gain their support for the administration's plan to unveil a new peace plan aimed at isolating and pressuring Israel.

After meeting with Gates, Amr Moussa - who has distinguished himself as one of Israel's most trenchant critics - said categorically, "The question of Iran should be separate from the Arab-Israel conflict."

Just as the administration is unmoved by objective facts that expose as folly its single-minded devotion to the notion that Israel is responsible for the absence of peace in the Middle East, so the Arab rejection of its view that Israel is to blame for Iran's nuclear program has simply driven it to escalate its attacks on Israel. This week it opened a new campaign of blaming Israel directly - through its purported nuclear a r s e
nal - for Iran's nuclear ambitions.

the Obama administration is telling Israel that regardless of what it does, and what objective reality is, as far as the White House is concerned, Israel is to blame.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
JTARR...you are correct.People have got sick and tired of Israel and it deciet and manipulation. They are tired of it pointing the finger at others when her own backyard is a shambles. Israel always plays the victim card and it just ran out of track. Obama told Israel stalling would no longer be acceptable. Under International Law Israel is illegally occupying Palestinian Territory. Israel is illegally settling that territory and is attempting to illegally annex East Jerusalem. Israel has made many agreements with the Americans to cease settlement construction and has gone on expanding. The whole problem with Rockets is down to Israel refusing to comply with Resolutions 242 and 338 41 years ago. Had Israel listened to the International community then it would not be under threat. Israel is its own worst enemy. Its own actions threatens its own security. It is about time Israel was made to comply in the interests of peace in the Middle East.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
Israel ius rushing through building projects in Jerusalem and in the territories in an attempt to sabotage the peace process. Obama and co were fully prepared for Israel playing these old moves and with Obama and the EU and the Arab States and the UN all dealing off the same page Israel has NO OPTION but to comply. Israel points the finger at Iran. Israel has illegal nuclear weaponry and programs never inspected by the IAEA.Israel does not belong to the NPT. How can anyone get Iran to end its nuclear program which is in the open and being done legally when Israel is allowed an illegal program. So yes....Israel is a bigger problem in the Middle East than most think.

Re:Hamas.....Two State Solution continue ...
I have been watching Israel from when I was eleven years old and sailed through the Suez in 1965. I had my father...a returned Serviceman and his mates filling me in on how it all started. On top of that I have read extensively on the problem and the problem began when Zionists from Europe entered Palestine with the sole intention of creating a State of Israel no matter what. They did not care whether the Arabs agreed with what they were doing or whether the resident jews agreed with them. They went ahead and forced Arabs out of the area. Any jews who opposed them were forced under threat of violence to comply. It is still the Zionists in government and filtered all through the Israeli social structure that are causing the problem. They are expert at making things look everyone elses fault. Israel never ever accepts blame or fault for anything yet if you look carefully enough you see exactly what is going on and if you read David Ben Gurions forecast done just after the war then Israel is right on track with 70% approx. of the population in Israel being jews of Zionist persuasion. Ben Gurion did not allow for change though and this is where Israel has come unstuck. What was acceptable sixty years ago is no longer acceptable in todays world. The World made a mistake by ignoring Israel for as long as it has. Israel as a result has a puffed up self opinion and now behaves like a spoilt child wanting what it wants when it wants it and answerable to no-one. Well....Israel is being given a harsh lesson. Israel is not all that. Israel has to abide by the same laws as everyone else and just as Apartheid was brought down in South Africa by World opinion....Israels own policies toward Palestinians are coming to an end by the same process. Gaza and Cast Lead woke the World up. Hamas ,like them or loath them have had the success of drawing enough International attention on the Palestinian plight to force change. Hamas attacking civilian targets is wrong.
