| Your argument was that because two economies have similar statistics they must have arrived there by the same exact means. Never mind that two seperate economies are reliant on different factors.Nevermind that what they produce or export or import is totally different or that their social make up is different or that one recieves 10 billion dollars in Aid every year while the other does not. You are so ignorant it is unbelievable.....but of course...to you....I must be wrong because you are XTR ALMIGHTY! |

U.S. President Barack Obama has sent a message to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding that Israel not surprise the U.S. with an Israeli military operation against Iran. The message was conveyed by a senior American official who met in Israel with Netanyahu, ministers and other senior officials. Earlier, Netanyahu's envoy visited Washington and met with National Security Adviser James Jones and with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and discussed the dialogue Obama has initiated with Tehran.
The message from the American envoy to the prime minister reveals U.S. concern that Israel could lose patience and act against Iran. It is important to the Americans that they not be caught off guard and find themselves facing facts on the ground at the last minute.
Obama did not wait for his White House meeting with Netanyahu, scheduled for next Monday, to deliver his message, but rather sent it ahead of time with his envoy.

It may be assumed that Obama is disturbed by the positions Netanyahu expressed before his election vis-a-vis Tehran - for example, Netanyahu's statement that "If elected I pledge that Iran will not attain nuclear arms, and that includes whatever is necessary for this statement to be carried out." After taking office, on Holocaust Memorial Day Netanyahu said: "We will not allow Holocaust-deniers to carry out another holocaust." |

Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak do not oppose American dialogue with Tehran, but they believe it should be conducted within a limited window of time, making it clear to Iran that if it does not stop its nuclear program, severe sanctions will be imposed and other alternatives will be considered.
The American concern that Israel will attack Iran came up as early as last year, while president George W. Bush was still in office. As first reported in Haaretz, former prime minister Ehud Olmert and Barak made a number of requests from Bush during the latter's visit to Jerusalem, which were interpreted as preparations for an aerial attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.
Following the Bush visit to Jerusalem, about a year ago the previous administration sent two senior envoys, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen, and the former U.S. national intelligence chief Mike McConnell to demand that Israel not attack Iran.
The previous administration also gave the message greater weight through Mullen's public statement that an Israeli attack on Iran would endanger the entire region. Since that statement, Mullen has met a number of times with his Israeli counterpart, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashke *** . |

In the battle of wills in Washington next Monday between President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, I will be rooting for Obama. Any Israeli or American Jew who believes the two-state solution is the only solution for Israel and the Palestinians should do the same, and any such Israeli or American Jew who doesn't root for Obama against Netanyahu is either deluded, fainthearted or hypocritical.
We all know what the two-state solution entails, and we all know that the Obama administration is in favor of it and the Netanyahu government is against it. I don't see why so many intelligent people are trying to fudge that fact. It's a fact. Netanyahu can't even bring himself to say the words "two states," but it wouldn't matter if he did. His predecessors Ehud Olmert, Ariel Sharon and Ehud Barak said the words without hesitation over and over, for all the good it did; the new Israeli government, whatever its leader may or may not one day bring himself to say, is dead set against a Palestinian state. Instead, this government, this overwhelmingly right-wing/religious national leadership, intends to continue the occupation forever.
Which leaves the Obama administration to change the now 42-year-old status quo, because Israel, of its own volition, isn't going to. There is no peace camp left in this country, there is no opposition, there is no potential leader or alternative government that might reverse the nation's course. The only loyal opposition is Obama, and I stress the word "loyal." |

THIS IS why I feel no inner conflict in rooting for Obama against Netanyahu, because I trust the US administration's commitment to this country's well-being. Beyond trusting Obama, I trust America. I may disagree with this or that US policy, but I have total confidence that America wants Israel to thrive, that it will never deliberately sabotage this country's vital interests. I know it from history. Every single US president from Harry Truman to George W. Bush has been a friend to Israel, in different ways, and I have no doubt that Obama will be one, too.
I can't say that about any other foreign country. I'm not sure I could go so far as to root for another country's leader in a showdown with an Israeli prime minister as crucial as next Monday's, but I have no problem when the foreign leader is the US president, especially a US president who, as far as I'm concerned, has a much, much better idea of what's good for Israel than our prime minister and government.
How can I not root for Obama against Netanyahu? How can any Israeli or American Jew who's against the settlements, who's against the occupation, not do the same? To J Street, to American Friends of Peace Now, to Meretz USA, to American donors to the New Israel Fund, to all American Jews who support Obama's Middle East policy and oppose Netanyahu's, and to what's left of the Israeli Left: Don't be intimidated. Stand up for what you believe in. There's no contradiction in being pro-Israel, pro-Palestinian-independe nce, pro-America and pro-Obama. You can be anti-Likud and still be a good Jew, even a good Zionist. |

Postscript: In his op-ed yesterday, Seth J. Frantzman maliciously distorted the meaning of the Upfront magazine story I wrote last Friday about how Palestinian Christians fare in Muslim society. He writes: "Larry Derfner recently wrote in The Jerusalem Post that they are a 'minority that tends to get along... [and] keep their complaints to themselves' and that attacks on them may reflect 'class resentment.'"
That's a doctored quote. The first part comes from where I wrote that Palestinian Christians "are a minority that tends to go along to get along." The second comes from where I wrote that a source says they "sensibly keep their complaints to themselves." The third comes from where I wrote that a source says, "There have been incidents of extortion, rape and beatings by Muslim hoodlums against Palestinian Christians, and while religious bigotry is no doubt part of the motivation, easy opportunity is probably the main one, with class resentment figuring as well..."
After twisting my words, Frantzman suggests I was excusing "attacks and harassment" of Palestinian Christians. That's in his mind, it's not in my story. |

| As of tonight....the people of Israel and American Jews largely support Obama. The Knesset has made a joint call to Netanyahu to oppose Obama and the Two State Plan. Monday will be an interesting meeting for the Two Heads of State. We will see who is in charge and who runs the show. For the sake of Palestinian and Israeli Peace I hope Obama stands his ground firmly and does not budge. |

| Netanyahu is acting tough, at the meeting he will say, "ok boss, you win" and agree to the plan. He wants concessions. |

| As much as Israeli's like to say they can survive without U.S.aid...the reality is they can't and the Israel government will be forced to comply because for the first time I feel confident saying Obama will not budge. It is to important to his Nations futire. He is compelled to hold the line. |

| Its this irrational devine right to the land thing. I just watched a documentry called trails of the east, 2007 it was made, they were in Jerusalem and interviewed arabs and jews as they traveled around. A few arabs seemed resigned, most said they just wanted peace. All bar a couple of jews thought that all of palestine is theirs and the arabs had no right to the land and mentioned biblical references. A soldier they interviewed hated arabs with a passion, the reason, they dare to attack us, the chosen people. This is our land, blah blah blah... Sam Powers suggestion might be a reality. |

| Sam Powers idea may well happen. It is starting to comer together now that when Irans missile batteries went on alert about twenty four hours ago it was due to detection of movement of Israeli Forces that were deployed in a threatening manner. U.S. and Russian satellites picked up the movement and alerted Iran....hence the warning to Israel from Obama. Netanyahu was warned about springing surprises like this on the Peace Process in an attempt to derail it and Obama seems to have caught Netanyahu with his pants down and Israel has learnt it isn't as sneaky as it thought. |

yep.. what other country can really be compared to Israel really if you think about it.
Advanced in so many areas and yet the product of a carefully crafted thought conditioning process from birth.
In a way the islamist extremist who willingly give up their lives to ‘die for Allah are not that different from the zealous Zionist. They grow up believing the life of a soldier is an honourable one and are fully trained in weaponry like its just another normal aspect of being a jewish freedom fighter for Israel. |

neytanyahu and his excuses grrrr
Netanyahu, however, argues that the threat from Iran and its regional proxies Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip must be confronted first, before any progress can be made in peacemaking. And while he has been trying to forge cooperation with moderate Arab nations to pursue that agenda, he has pointedly refused to endorse Palestinian statehood. |

Neytanyahu's getting around.. didn't quite get to hear what he expected tho .....
Jordan's king pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday to immediately commit to the establishment of a Palestinian state, as he pursues a sweeping resolution of the Muslim world's conflicts with Israel.
Netanyahu made an unannounced, lightning visit to neighboring Jordan, as King Abdullah II and other regional leaders seek to lay the groundwork for restarting Israel-Arab peace efforts. Abdullah's lobbying has been in step with the Obama administration's efforts to link progress on Israel-Arab peacemaking to progress on curbing Iran's nuclear ambitions. |
