Well inbound39 you under estimate New Zealands pull with America,We do not have the awesome defense of america or Britain but we are the silent heros.It was our S.A.S that went into Iraq 3yrs before the war started for the Yanks and survey the area for the Yanks lying deep undercover pin pointing strong holds and strategic points,Its the Kiwis who taught the Yanks how to track and still are in Afghanistan and have been fighting side by side with them.When it come to war Kiwi brain power is right up there.
America needs us more than we need them,New Zealand is a prime Island hopping spot for any nation at war to have.It has great ports and resources to fuel any army from any country at war.You say Syria cnt be trusted mate where you been living ?under a rock?.America is the most untrusted country in the world but you dnt have to be a rocket scientist to know that.Their country's economy runs on war and it wnt be too long before a few other countries that will gather together and give them back what they have been dishing out.If you belive in Oshama bin lardin heading the attack on america then you are a fool,if you believe Americas attack on Iraq and Afghanistan are because of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction,thats another lie.
We dnt need America,they need New Zealand,We dnt need England but they need New Zealand cause strategically we are a vital landmark in the pacific,because who ever has New Zealand has the pacific. |

| Because our Country could not say NO to England we had 70.000 troops in europe/africa protecting EUROPE during WW2. America had to send troops to defend us that is a FACT. I also thought the S.A.S was a brittish unit made up of kiwis, Thinking anybody would invades us too use NZ as a base for an attack on america is a JOKE. |

Inbound... who's going to attack us? Anybody who's anybody has to go past Australia first. Our most immediate threat would be from a bunch of Pacific islands. Is it worth getting heavily involved with the US when the threat is so minimal? |

It is not true that an enemy needs to go through Australia before they get here.
Troop ships could come through the Pacific directly to NZ.
NZ has plenty of good water and food growing capability.
The only real defence we have is helen clark doing a haka on the beach!
The Americans were welcomed here with open arms in 1942.
It is not clear that they would do the same again, probably not.
Wake up guys, distance is no problem today. |

voldermort. I would like to know where you were when Russia invaded Afghanistan and bombed the hell out of the civilian population. If you weren't in your cot dirtying your nappies you might want to share with me the protest you made.
I'd also like to know your comments on the North Viet commies assassinating/murdering up to 100,000 South Viet public servants [teachers ,doctors etc] 'before' U.S. advisors arrived there. |

It was done because of strategic agreements between NZ and U.S.A and U.K. I served in the military for long enough to know what comes into play when nations go to war. Gte your head out of your rear and wake up. America does not need NZ at all. Nor does Britain. For the main part we only ever send a couple of hundred men and women if any at all. Hardly likely to change the course of any war. Helen pulled the SAS out when the peaceniks whined. Syria is a known threat. Iran is friendly with Syria...another known threat. You have your knickers in a twist solely because of Iraq but none of you bright sparks ever come up with an answer as to what you would have done about Saddam Hussein. The nations that did to something you condemn. The responsibility for Iraq was down to Saddam and the greater damage their has been done by Iraqi's to Iraqis. They looted and trashed their own hospitals and shot and murdered their own hospital staff and blew up their own pipelines and tore up their own electricity plants etc. You need a reality check. New Zealand is like a gnat on an elephants butt when it comes to strategic importance...and your assertion that it is important flies in the face of what most peaceniks state when they oppose New Zealand improving its military capability...the usual cry is ...who would want to invade New Zealand!!!! |

| Vince...the largest Islamic Nation to us is Indonesia with a formidable if antiquated military. They have eyeballed all pacific islands for years and are on the official threat list to NZ and Aussie. Not my decision...ask the governments....I just went where they sent me...gladly! |

Gentlemen before a slanging match is started which will serve no purpose at all, the comment was made that Ms CLARKE stopped the Defence force arrangement for deploy the group into active areas of conflict. I was under an impression that also this may have been so our SAS has been and will continue to be involved in conflict areas when they rotate into service with the British Defence forces.I know thats how they were involved in the troubles in northern Island.
Can someone enlighten me please? |

Actually it's Pam and I do not have an irrational fear of people. Obviously you have not studied History - how many of us remember Neville Chamberlain - PM of Britain in 1938 who made a Treaty with a handshake with Hitler? Peaceniks do not survive in this world so one has to be aware of who your real enemy is. I do not advocate war, I would rather neutralise an enemy so he cannot attack me. No, that does not mean taking over an enemy's country, it just creates peace with honour. It also saves face - a major part of man's makeup. |
