| Looks like New Zealand has pissed off the USA for a temporary idealist policy. New Zealand will have nuclear power when its citizens experience its first winter with electricity shortages and they loose their jobs because businesses cant operate. I could be wrong maybe you all want live like they did in the "Good Life". But I cant see that happening because then you couldnt watch the All Blacks and drink Lion Red/Brown. |

Not being argumentative...actually belive nuclear is a good way to go as the alternatives are not that great..but where would the waste be disposed of? I mean in the US there is a lot of land (Nevada).
What about wind and water generators? Have those been tried? |

| I can see us getting any great andnew power source because we live in a country that wants to have but doesn't want to spend anything to get it. ie Roads, Health, Staduims, Defence, Police, Prisons, public transport.... its all old and we spend minimal on trying to update things. |

| Thanks xtr...sounds like people are thinking along the right path...As to the US being pissed off, wait for the next president and maybe see if there is a change in Washington's wind. I think that NZ should look to use the alternative sources of power to develop these into export producing technology and thus both reap the benefit of enhancing the current technology, using it, and exporting it as a way to strengthen NZ currency and trade. Easier said then done, but definately NZ has the potential to do this! |

We'd hope not. That would be a short cut to solutions we're good at solving.
Wasn't the Atom first split in NZ, or was it a NZ'er? I forget, but why don't we have it here now if that was the case.
Obviously we would be messing with something far too big for mankind, particularly in this country to be dealing with.
We think we know about these things, but we don't really do we. |

| The nearest Norman Kirk was to the warship was when he said goodbye to the crew on the Devonport wharf. The ship never went close to the test area and the least important cabinet minister at that time was the only politician on board after he drew the short straw. Stories over time seem to get better by the telling!! It was all for show. |

At some stage, we will have to go Nuclear. I was approached, or shall I say accosted, by 2 jokers from Greenpeace on Colombo Street. In Christchurch.
In any case, one of them had the sheer cheek to ask what Planet was I from ??
We could, quite esily, have 1 or 2; maybe more Nuclear Power Stations. We have Uranium. And why not ?? |

Lnage had the support of most of the population when he turned the US ship away. He was acting on behalf of most of us. It may be that our nuclear policies need revisiting but not before some robust debate.
As for being a 3rd world country - get a grip - have you ever been to one. Those countries problems make our problems seem trivial. The populations of those countries are starving and war ravaged. People get shot at and women get raped with alarming regularity. All we bi**h about are high petrol prices and road user charges. |

Solutionz.
As a matter of fact I have. I have spent some time in various places in Africa. What about you?? I can assure you , spending time in countries where kids walk round with semi-automatic weapons on the street and you can't stray off the streets because of landmines makes NZ's problems seem rather trivial. |

'Education' as one said is the way to go to prepare future earthlings on the safety uses of such a 'POWER'.
It is an universal resource that is cappable of anything on this planet and 'EDUCATIOn' is very important.
The current exploration of mars for future men's greed to survive on 'power' and line 'CEO' pockets is inevitable.
The dollar will become a thing of the past and $millions of dollars will be the basic minimum 'wage of the future'. I do not need to eleborate now. The thread speculates with 'opinions' that are very valid and true to a degree on either side of that coin...
