If you want a clean green New Zealand where the lights illuminate when you turn on the switch, Then Nuclear is the only option.
It isn't weather that has created the power shortages both summer and winter, it is poor planning and political games.
As it is, how can NZ ecconomy grow when there is such an unreliable supply of power which new business/industry require? The wind turbines ruining our skylines and invading our water catchments are [in terms of generation] mere toys, just around 9% efficiency. So many moving mechanical parts out in all weathers, the maintenance requirements are high and so is the cost. In addition the making of these turbines is not eccologically friendly.
The first nuclear station located between Auckland and Hamilton would take the majority of New Zealand's industrial, commercial and residential load. In doing that, some controvercial pylons are not required. Dependency on the Cook Strait cables is hugely reduced. Comalco/industry can produce year round. The ecconomy can grow.REliable ample power all weathers. But if more stations were built, then existing power schemes that ruined eccology and habtat could be removed, restoring NZ as it should be and once was. Go nuclear. |
