| yeah no changes except arnel drops out with a side strain. India, like most international teams, have always sent out good sides with strong players in the past. The wickets back then were different. But I don't think i can recall an international side with a more devastating line up as long as I have been watching cricket. Couple that with the fact that they are ALL in form and batting on flat decks against a bowling line up that lacks consistancy of late and a devastating bowler (Bond). The Black caps have performed better in this series than my gut was telling 5 months ago. This is an Indian team that has beaten Australia with the likes of Lee in the squad, S.A..the same team that comprehensively beat Aussie down under and Sri Lanka and England. It's not what we're doing wrong necessarily, it's simply that India are peaking. All I wanna see from the final test is an improved performance. A draw against this team would be comparable to a win against any other team, especially at Napier. Me thinks there is gonna be high scores and low wicket counts. |

| Fair enough comments. Makes sense actually, this Indian side is the best in the world so we would be doing well just to make improvements. a draw would be a good outcome for us kiwis |

We were outclassed by a better side, plain and simple.
Hopefully we can improve in test 2. I think the goal of winning against this Indian squad could be rather demoralising, better to set other more realistic goals. like 50s 100s and all round improvement.
only my thoughts. |

Good question, I'd like to believe Harbhajan Singh was more effective in the first innings because the damage had already been done, with the New Zealand team getting of to that terrible start, in the second innings the Indian team had a huge 1st innings lead to defend. Plus the foot marks combine with good field placings were most likely troubling the Black Caps batsmen.
Also it gives bowlers a lot of confidence knowing they have the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman and Sahwag to do the job with the bat.
Harbhajan was clearly the better Bowler in the first test though. |

| But then why is the other spinner ie Harbajan singh so effective, his and vettori s styles seem very similar. |

| Vettori takes wickets with his line, flight and speed in O.D.Is because batsmen are looking to force the pace more. In tests they don't have to so he is less effective. Still on the 4th and 5th days when spin is more conjusive he plays bigger parts. he takes alot of wickets in the second innings. What we need is a bowler who can apply support him at the other end. Run rates are more of a factor now in tests, hence the reason we are getting more results in 4 days. If Vettori is holding an end, we need a bowler at the opposite attacking, a bit like O'Brien. |

| Insider its more than just Vettori, our pop gun slow medium types of bowlers are found out on easy pitches, against good batsmen they will struggle and allways have done. |

| Yeah that's right, the Black Caps need to learn how to bat time. ie bat for 4 or 5 hrs and you should have a ton. It's no secret that the kiwis have struggled to take tests into the 5th day. I think Vittori dose not get as much rotation on the ball anymore. But most likely makes up for it with variation in speed, line and length. |

| Is it just me or is Vettori not as deadly on tests as he is on One dayers I mean bowling wise, I could not help notice that. |

| I agree with the last post palladin22 you were so off...... all that stuff about it being a draw, it was nowhere near a draw India won all the way. Their spinner was just too good for the Black Caps batters. Although one batter did manage to step up even though it was too late almost made a century I don't blame him for playing the big shots I just wondered why the others were so impatient, they should be learning from people like Rahul Dravid and the little master, they weren't at their best yet like Vettori said they were patient and I think Black caps should think about getting some new starters the current ones just don't seem to be working. |

| I did expect them to crumble twelthman.jafa, they have shown a tendency to do so in the past with far better players than they do now and they do not play spin particularly well |

| You couldn't have got it more wrong palladin. Although I must admit I didn't expect the Black Caps to crumble quite that badly. |

Indians dominated the first test as most predicted, not needing the fifth and final day. Mcintosh on thin ice but will most likely stay for the remainder of the tests.
(should see changes elsewhere in the squad) |

Mcintosh gone for nothing once again, Guptill decent 47, Flynn looking patient, Taylor needs to bat time if the Black Caps are going to draw this one.
(foot marks coming into play for Harbhajan Singh) |

| New Zealand to step up to the plate. Set the Indians a target of 140 - 180..... and depending on which "Kyle" turns up, there might be something to look forward to come Sunday? Too OPTIMISTIC???! |

Innings and 14 runs?
You expect NZ to be bowled out for under 226?
I'll have a piece of that - I'll bet you 150 credits we achieve a draw and India actually has to bat again. |

OK..now we find out.
I have every confidence the team will exceed themselves. The lead of 240 on this track should not be that daunting as we know we are playing for the draw.
Taylor is class. McIntosh and Guptill should set this up with a solid start as the fears are gone from the track.
I'll be stunned if we blow this, despite the gap in skill level between our guys and India. |
