Ryder is a good player but time will tell,he is not quite so deserved of the hero status with which the sky tv commentators are feasting upon him,its jessie this and jessie that(sic),when any other player in the team are either bowling, fielding, batting etc.they are called by their surnames, but Ryder ? jessie this, jessie that, ugh, make sme ill !!!

yeah I do agree that he's more like a Craig McMillian. But more consistent and can only get better. As for not having the ability to read tracks, I'd like to know what you base that on.

wtf. Here's a true story, I have spoken to John Bracewell and he said "he is the most natural talent i have come across in some time". Lack of depth his chance, not enough range of shots????? he can glance, pull, hook, on drive, off drive, cover drive, square drive, cut, late cut, come down the track.. Every player has favourite shots. Ponting pull and cover drive, Fleming on/off/cover drives. Bradman, cut, cover drive. Ryder, pull/cut and cover drive!
wtf

Are you done with your pure speculation? (I hope so) To say Ryder is just ok, is basically saying the same for many batsmen world wide. Because his stats alone say he's better than most.

Ryder is OK...hand eye player who will be shown up on any but flat tracks.

More in the mould of McMillan not Astle...he lacks Astle's range of shots and ability to read the track - our lack of quality players has given him the chance is all.

He's turning out to be in the mould of what Nathan Astle used to be... Astle used to bat no5 in test and opens in ODIs... so does Ryder at the moment. Also Astle bowled his mediums and likewise Ryder.
Hope that Ryder can have an as successful career as Astle if not better (which will be phenomenal... Astle had a stellar career)

nice to have a guy that if the balls there to be hit,,he hits it,,,,his first option isnt to leave it and then pose for the camera,,infact,,,if you get bowled while shouldering arms,,,you should have to walk off with ya pants down!

Ryder's the man, great averages. Quickly becoming a good all-rounder. Guptill's the man as well with an ODI batting average of 49.
