You don't play McCaw at fullback so a winger can 'have a go' at flanker - so why pick an obvious number 5 (Ryder) and get him to open in a test?
McIntosh is a very, very good player. Always remember John Wright averaged barely 20 in his first 20+ tests - hell even he admitted he wasn't sure he belonged at that level - once he found his feet we had a top player.
Give the players time.
We have the makings of a good squad, bar a few obvious weaknesses - the most glaring our lack of a swing bowler (where are they?).
One final reminder...after some 9 tests, Martin Crowe hardly averaged 20.... |

| In regards to your comments about the team I picked, I just wanted to say that I did not dump Mcintosh out instead I put him down the order to see how he will do later on, since he hasn't so far been able to perform in the starters and to see how ryder will do playing from the get go he might hang on and frustrate the Indian bowlers we need to do something similar to the Indians put up atleast one in form batsman as tthe opener. |

you are all forgeting the pitch is green and wont turn, patel wont play.
1.Mcintosh
2.Redmond
3.Guptill
4.Flynn
5.Taylor
6.Ryder
7.McCullum
8.Vettori
9.southee
10.O'Brien
11.Martin
Solid top 4, could bat plenty of time. I think ryder is good enough to cover 4th seamer. I like the idea of having redmond in the team, scored a few in his last test (against aussie) and has been scoring well domestically, and id rather see guptill at 3 than opening. Also like the idea of Redmond being in the test team as hes a good bowling option, how useful are players like katich and clarke with their part time spin for aussie? But i did say the pitch isnt going to spin, guess I just think he should be in the team. |

| Myburgh would be fantastic to have in our middle order next year he's been scoring heaps of runs for Canterbury. Also Wagner but I think he's at least 2 years away. |

| Is the 18 yo Trent Boult your thinkin of Pallindon. I think Myburgh is eligible in a years time, a bit like the Otago bowler wagner who is a lefty and pretty quick too. Don't think Jesse should open, he better suited to 5 with McCullum @ 7. McIntosh deserves to be there, he scored runs against the west indies so he deserves his place |

I hear he is a South African - made 190 and 100? Is he eligible for NZ or an overseas player? |

I heard there is an 18 year old leftie who bowls at 140km+?
If this kid exists, get him in the team now. |

Ambrose, McCullum at 5 suits me.
Ryder as opener? Has to be McIntosh. He has done nothing to deserve being dumped.
I'd play Ryder at 6, Elliott at 7.
Bowlers pick themselves if the selectors ever drop Mills - he must be related to Nash because he seems first picked regardless of his limited skills.
Reality is we cannot pick Martin Crowe and Hadlee so we are pretty much screwed anyway. |

I don't want to come across all negative, the truth of the matter is Moles can make any changes he wants but that probably wont have much change on the outcome of the game.
I still think Kyle Mills should be dropped for a while.
Elliot, Patel, and Southee would be in my team.
Actually I like the look of your 11 ambrose |

| Redmond has proven himself at this level and is going good at provincial level same applies for cummings. MacIntosh ok whe can keep with him but he hasnt once looked settled and IMO looked like he would get out every ball so far.Guptill isnt an opener so i would drop him down the order.Arnel was brought in2 the squad but is unused so give him a go???Does anyone no what has happened to gillespie? he could bowl over 140 maybe bring him in 4 some much needed pace? |

I'm reading alot of panicking. We are playing against a great side with great players in good cricket conditions. We do not have the side to match the Indians but we do have the foundations of a good side. Chopping and changing will only unsettle the balance and team togethernes (for lack of a better word). Franklin shouldn't of been there in the first place and Mills' positon needs to be reviewed. |

| if oram keeps coming up with injuries I'd get rid of him for good. kyle mills aint done nothing for us in tests. 130km p/hr same place every ball ain't gunna get top batsem out. He doesn't even seem to be energised. We will never be a force without having a quick strike bowler. 140k plus. Martin wont be around for long, hes like 34 already. We do need a left armer as well, too many right arm seamers. Quite a few good 18/19 year olds as well that scoring big runs in state championship, can't do much worse than franklin etc has done lately. Plenty of options. Drop the selectors. Mills is a ODI bowler, just like nathan bracken from OZ.But to be honest, I can't see any of our bowlers we have at moment, including patel/southee/arnell etc actually rip into this indian team. We aren't getting out to their average bowlers, we are getting out to great bowlers. Could be a mental thing, nothing seems to phase Jesse Ryder and he doesn't fail to often, others seem to look nervous quite often. Guptill doesnt seem to be hased either and he been going ok. |

| Krazykiwi - you live up to your name. Redmond? Cumming? Are you sure? McIntosh was unlucky, he's worth persevering with for the moment, at least he has a test century to his name. Taylor - looked horrible, not sure however if we have any options to replace him. Franklin/Oram - much of a muchness - Oram hasn't played a hell of a lot of cricket lately, he's likely to break down again given his track record. Mills to be replaced by someone more penetrating, he seems to be struggling for form since his Achilles injury, is he fully fit? |

| I would like to see a left arm bolter. CD had a bowler who could rip it thorugh at 140kms, actually anybody who could bowl at this speed consistently would be beneficial. Also invite Shane Bond to Black cap practice. If our bowlers are bowling to our batsman, no wonder they think they are world class!! |

| I agree. Mills aint cut out for test cricket. doesnt do enough with the ball or quick enough to test the batters. eems to have no energy when bowling. I'd drop Franklin too. Obviously hasnt got it at the moment to compete at that level. Big mental change from first class to test cricket. Id swap Patel for Mills. Elliot for Franklin until/if Oram gets right. If Obrien doesnt get over his strain I'd put in Southee as if the wicket has some life he'll do good. Just seems to struggle when balls not moving around. Southee & Patel will both look for wickets, Mills and franklin just seem to stroll in and chuck the ball in the same old obvious area. |

Yeah pretty easy decision. Drop the out of form Kyle Mills, & James Franklin who can't score runs at international level.
Bring in Jeetan Patel & Grant Elliot.
Patel offering an extra bowling option and Elliot strengthening the batting line up.
Franklins selection as an all rounder was pointless. Vittori hardly through him the ball.
Also O'Brien and Chris Martin should have been given more overs. By far the two most attacking bowlers. |
