I agree, if we are going to keep Ryder in the game, we need to keep him away from the bowling crease.

Bowling as a young player did not help Martin Crowe's knees, I imagine it will be even worse for a more solid bloke like Jesse.

I'm convinced that if Crowe had not been used as a bowler in his early days of test cricket, we would have got another couple of years from him.

Compared to say Matt Dunning I would say Jesse Ryder is a Sportsman. Remember some of those South African Props?

Sas - I havent changed my opinion, but give credit where it is due.

I still believe Ryder has a failing in being a hand-eye player at test level, but you cannot fault how he adapted his game to touch as well as power in the series - for that, he deserves great credit.

And shape doe not make a sportsman - results do.

It doesnt matter what shape or form you are....if you play sport you are a sportsman. I mean if you want to talk about the typical cricket players image....some one should tell Dwayne Leverock from Bermuda what that image is!!

Yep, he's the best thing to happen to NZ cricket in a long time. Now if the media could just let go of a couple of indiscressions, we'll be able to sit back and enjoy.

Lol Paladden, you have certainly have changed your opinion on Jessie, The stereo type athlete I think is more for the physical sports, Eg: rugby, soccer, Running, that sort of thing. You remember old botham, he was hardly a lean machine but he could put in the hard yards bowling and batting with no fatigue, Another would be aussie iopener Boon, he could stay at that crease for hours and not have it bother him. Hell he can drink 48 cans of beer on a 4 hour flight and play the next day , Lol.

People are saying his physique, look are not that of a modern day athlete.

Interesting, as he has scored a test double hundred, without any obvious fatigue - catches behind the sticks with simple flair - and so on.

In my opinion he IS a modern day athlete.

And a bl***y good one.

Do you have to look like Kevin Pietersen to be regarded as an athlete?
