couldnt have worded it any better myself
jesse the 'Knight Ryder' is the man!! he may not set an example for the young ones,but hes got 'X-FACTOR' written all over him,jeets could develope into a genuine threat if hes given more opportunities,cant wait until franklins fit and firing,he can bat a bit as well,nah they dont suck,its just that people are tired of them under performing,fultons confidence always gets dented because they dont know whether to use him at 5,4 or 3 but he can bat,Mark Gillespie,ian o brien can let rip,the players just need time. |

Black Caps don't suck!!
I think a lot of teams would struggle against England at the moment and am looking forward to their clash with Sth Africa. Don't get me wrong - I'm not an English supporter by any stretch of the imagination! It's just that they currently have a very good bowling attack for the conditions in England. With Sidebottom, Anderson, Hoggard and Harmison, their attack is well balanced and experienced. I've long been a fan of left-arm swing bowlers and look forward to the day James Franklin is back (any news on that front?).
Looking at the bright side, the Black Caps can only improve. There is a balance to this current team and if they perform well in the 1-dayers, their confidence will grow. What irks me is the selectors chopping and changing looking for the 'instant fix'. With Vettori, McCullum, Mills, How, Oram, Styris and to a lesser extent, Fulton and Mason, the 'core' needs to establish itself for the 'young guns' to step up. And this will only happen with game time.
Taylor has the potential to be a great player in all forms of the game. Southee has shown enormous potential and we all know what Ryder is capable of. I wish there was an opportunity for Jeets too - he could be a game-breaker if he had the opportunity.
I think we need to step back and let this unit develop. The hole left by Fleming & Co was huge. NZ doesn't have the depth, but I do see potential with this group of players. They CAN be competitive and need the backing of their supporters here.

| too many guys are tried but not perseveered with,if you want to build combinations over time,you have to let the players experience first hand,thats why in the long run,the test defeats these guys are enduring now,will only benefit them in the long run,its all about experiences and learning from past mistakes,the nucleus or foundations of the side are there now,Dan,McCullum,Taylor,H ow,Oram,Mills,Southee,its about building experience and not chopping and changing all the time. |

| noskiwi...bro,we do need jesse ryder in the black caps,because he brings the x factor they need,hes not a p.c type of guy that has to follow everyone elses footsteps,its ok to rebel at the age he is,hes still maturing and hes showed far more skill then what any of the current players are showing,one thing jesse has that no other players do,is BALLS!! why dont you give him an old fashioned punch in the head,hed probably deck you with one hand. |

| dj - what about Vincent? Do you think he could have made the No3 spot his own this year if he hadn't have signed with the ICL? I know his record wasn't great but he certainly had more experience than Marshall/Fulton. I reckon there's more to that "premature retirement" than people are letting on. |

| The funny thing is, the Black Caps had everyone's attention after they won the Hamilton test!!! But it goes to show that we currently don't have the depth and experience to play test cricket, at least not yet. I think there are some positives, such as Taylor and to a lessor extent How and Flynn. Maybe Ryder to join the fold if he sorts his attitude out. Our bowling stocks are a little thin as well, we need to find a replacement for Bond asap. |

| thats my point exactly dhume,taking bond and fleming out,your main strike bowler and fleming your technical masterful batsmen and captain,thats enough for any team to go on a downward spiral,add in astles batting,styris allround game and mcmillans powerful batting and skim bowling,thats alot of classy experience gone in one big chunk. yes How and Taylor are good,very good,but it'll take a few years for them to reach the experience levels of the other players i mentioned,you need EXPERIENCE. |

I think saying the Black Caps suck is harsh under the circumstances. I think we need to give a very fresh looking side a chance. I think there are enough bright spots in this tour to suggest future success.
We have to remember that we have only a very small fraction of player numbers of all the other major test playing nations. We don't have much depth compared to others. WEe need our best players playing or we will get done.
It is unreasonable to expect us to carry on unaffected after losing Bond and Fleming.
Give the boys a chance. There were a few bright spots. How looked good mostly and Taylor showed how good he might be in the future. We need to persist with these guys for a few tests yet.
Bring on the ODI's. They'll do better at those. |

| it doesnt matter if the players were in a bad patch,as the saying goes,form comes and goes and is at times temporary,but the players i mentioned before are all 'class' players and 'class' is permanent. |

| I think it goes a bit beyond Bracewell. He wanted Fleming to retain his Captaincy for this England tour but NZ Cricket said no and literally gave him the boot. Same with Shane Bond; on you're bike for signing into 20/20. It's ironic that the day the Black Caps were getting done like a dinner in the test, Bond wasn't that far away taking a 5 wicket bag in a county match. It's not as if he was unable to play becasue of his 20/20 contract; he was but got shafted. There's a lot of dead wood in NZ cricket and it aint so much the players. |
