Just watched the highlights of the England v Sth Africa 3rd Test. Firstly, congratulations to G Smith and his team - well played.
But a couple of things stick out regarding the match. One was Kallis' dismissal by Flintoff. I thought that was another case of bad sportsmanship.... it was almost like Flintoff was TRYING to hit him with a beamer. Why didn't the umpire say something to Freddie? He nearly pinged AB de Villiers earlier with high ball too and never acknowledged or apologised there ..... where does he get off on that? I thought beamers were illegal? At 85mph a beamer could cause a load of damage.
I just don't think it's necessary, and if Sth Africa had lost the game, I'm sure there would be repercussions. |

| I know its late but dont shoot me because I am a hearty Blackcaps fan just ask my wife. Disgrace is all I can say about our teams outburst after the conclusion of the game especially the captain (Daniel Vettori). Muralitharan's runout just goes to show that we ourselves do not tend to be the greatest sportsman in the world so dont shoot other countries down when they decide that they want to win at all cost. |

obviously international (or any level of) sport is littered with these incidents. Everyone blubbs like beetches when it happens to them and uses the 'hey, it's win at all costs in the professional game.'
krap happens. no-one likes it but get on and play the next one...coz they're professionals. |

I didn't see the match live but have seen some stuff on YouTube.
Why didn't the umpires call a dead ball for the collision?
In the absence of a dead ball, was asking the umpires to give the batsman out the only way of avoiding them awarding a run?
MORE IMPORTANTLY, watch the replay of the last ball and tell me why Mills is not run out since he's in mid-air as the wicket at his end is broken (so the 2nd run doesn't count and New Zealand would actually have lost the game if the officials had been doing their jobs - thus "justifying" Collingwood's action))? |

It was an accident, the result being the run out. Collingwood made an error of judgement under pressure as at that stage NZ were crusing it a bit, he needed the wicket. The other senior members of the side should have stepped in and said something, but the stakes were too high for them.
This is a one off incident, England have been generally good ambassadors, the guard of honour for Fleming's last test in Napier was class. |

| As a player I am in two minds about what happened and agree that it was a heat of the moment decision which Collingwood and the England team probably regretted as soon as they had done it. If I was in their situation I am not 100% sure I would not have done the same thing. I guess you could compare it to a soccer defender who deliberately brings down an opposing striker to try and save a goal. Its not in the spirit of the game but it happens. Things like this happen in sport all the time and good on Collingwood for apologising. |

How can you argue that the Rutherford incident is relevant. That is a really stupid thing to say. Is Rutherford or any of his team mates playing for NZ now? No, they are not. This incident is perhaps relewvnt to the NZ team of the 80's and early 90's but can hardly be held against the Black Caps now.
Get with reality. We are not living in the past! |

The Rutherford situation was before any of the current players were playing and therefore irrelevant as a comparison.
The McCullum situation was unfortunate. It is quite different however. No one made Muralii walk off down the pitch. It showed an unawareness of the laws on his part. Usually in that situation, the batsmen will wait for the play to finish before walking off. He walked out of his ground before McCullum even had the ball.
Elliot was involved in a collision with an English player and was accidentally knocked over. He was likely to have made his ground if he'd not been impeded. It is comparable to not running an overthrow if the ball bounces off your but as a result of shying at the stumps.
I believe that Collingwood was well out of line. He has redeemed himself however by going well out of his way to apologise. I don't believe he intentionally cheated as it was the heat of the moment as suggested.
It would have been interesting to see what would have happened had we lost. |

| Dont forget when Ken Rutherford threw the ball at some Sri Lankan batsman in anger because the guy was on about 3 thousand. The guy was in his crease and jumped in the air to get out of the way , the ball hit the stumps, NZ appealed and the batsman was given out |

| Very poor display, he was taken out should have put the bat in front of sidebottoms face as he was diving. you can see elliot looking at him and he knew what was coming but couldnt get out of the way. Would collingwood say sorry if they won? i dont think he could have. |

| Besides the abandoned ODI where NZ would of won had it gone the extra over, this was the ugliest incident yet from this tour.. very disappointed with the ENG players, they are lucky NZ won or else this would blow up even more.. |
