| jimem83. If Waddell got away to a flyer then so did Drysdale because at the 150m, 250m, 300m they were even. It was at this point that Waddell started to 'row through mud' as he called it. Having said that I personally think that giving points to guts, determination, stamina and downright full on competitiveness Waddell would have won race #3. Though very good I think Drysdale was a bit of a cry baby. NZ rowing also changed the playing field by belatedly announcing that whoever won the 3 race series wasn't an automatic selection for the Olympics. If we all face the reality of this cornball scenario it was nothing but an out if Waddell had of won. |

| I thought it was an even start and given Drysdales performance I think it would have been 50/50. I don't think we can assume Waddell would have won at all. To be honest, I think we Mahe is definately the best option. He has consistently been no. 1 in the world for a few years. Whose to say that Waddells hearrt problem wouldn't trouble him when the nerves are running high in the Olympic final? Too big a risk. |

| Waddell got away to a flyer and I have no doubt that barring his ticker problem which can be controlled he would have won. Therefore are we really sending our best chance in Drysdale? |

| murkmanz so on that point people aren't allowed an opinion. The whole country has shown interest in this and probably feel as you do about the outcome. Powley sums it up nicely. I think you don't know what the hell you're talking about...how do you like the fit on that? |

I think some of you guys dont understand what it is to be an athelete and to compete at a high level. I only have admiration for anyone who achieves at this level.
I feel sorry for Waddell with the heart problems, I know what its like to some degree. |

| According to the news he had this same heart problem prior to the Athens Olympics. A damned shame because this will probably cancel him out of any crew selection. |

| Apparently Waddell was suffering from some kind of heart problem during the race. Hopefully it's not too serious. |

| Yeah it seemed like Waddell was having some sort of problem. I don't think Drysdale would have that easy a run |

So Drysdale smacked Waddell in the final race. What a performance. It's now clear that Drysdale should now take his rightful spot as three-time world champion in the Beijing Olympics.
Congratulations Mahe, and hopefully Rob will join one of the other boats as his comeback has been fantastic. |

| Anyone get the idea that Drysdale sucked Waddell in at the NZ Champs. Thrashed in that race then comes out and does Waddell in the first of the 3 Olympic selection races. Mmmmm; wonder why Waddell was not available to the press after that race. |

| phuck...are you serious? if that's the case the guy should just bugger off if all this is really about him and not representing the country. Okay Mahe had to bring his schedule further..who cares the challenges of being an elite athlete...he of all people should know what it is and stop whingeing. The best goes...shut the gate. Be a champion and deal |

well today mahe beat rob so that puts a new spin on things. mahe is being forced to peak earlier than usual which personally i'd be a bit pissy about too when you've got your own world champion schedule to follow!
but i still think he's the best man for the job at the moment. and other crews won't be upset by the loser because all he'll be doing is the double sculls with nathan cohen. no 4's or 8's for these 2. i can't wait to see the outcome though, these 2 are 2 very driven athletes! |

| powley apparently each cuntry can only have th single rep in that contest. Personally I think Mahe is playing hiself out as big sook. He should put his energy into what he is trying to d right now and that's being the best in the country becasue at the moment he is being owned by an old champ who to me is desrving to go if he is the best. talk up all the developemtn etc you want but Waddel has been there and done that and if he is still the goods he should go. Not Rocket science...you should send the best. That's all she wrote! |

You gotta remember that Waddell will be primed for the trials also, I still think Rob will win the trials. Also isnt it unfair for them to be racing in the singles trials then have to switch to a crew after the trials for the olympics. I know if I were in one of the other crews (4s or 8s) I would be pi$$d. Just take one the loser stays home that simple.
PEACE |

| I personally think that come the trials in March, Drysdale should be able to get up and beat Wardell if he shows similar improvement to the race in the weekend |
