YEEEHAAA!!!
Its starting to get exciting is this, more and more about the World Champs is coming out in the News like the fact that South Africa are the first team to arrive next Thursday. The Ferns go into camp on the 3rd which is Next Saturday and the Aussies touch down 2 days after. OOOHH YEEEHAAA i am absolutely bursting at the seams. Although, i don't think that the Silver Ferns build up to the Champs has been as good as perhaps the Aussie's but oh well time will tell. Bloody Ruth better have it sorted or else....off with her head.
Good times to come.
I plan to comment quite regularly on this message board throughout the Champs so feel free to tune in as i convey my sometimes controversial opinions.

No, Im over in Aussie. I live here now but will remain a staunch kiwi supporter. Tickets cost too much anyway.
Otherwise we were thinking of coming over especially to watch games. Will stay at home and watch now on TV. |

FOOD POISONING!!! No seriously, Its a hard one. They are a good team, but they are absolutely not unbeatable. Its a mental thing. For years we just couldnt beat Australia, not matter how hard we tried. Then we got the upper hand for a few years and now we are in danger of slipping back into that "We cant beat em" mentality.
I agree with you that we need to play smarter. More agression in defence but controlled agression. Make it look like they're going up for the ball and then flatten em. Well maybe not that bad, but you know what I mean.
McMahon can be put off her game, as can Cath Cox. Also, if Ellis is making no effect on Irene, it dents the confidence of the rest of the team. For the Aussies its stop Irene, stop the Ferns.
Every single player has to out play their opposite number, not just a couple of them. And thats how we will beat em. And lets not forget England and Jamaica. |

| But the Aussies do tend to jump all over us and get away with it. McMahon for example, if she gets called up for anything, just watch her scream up court after the ball and litterly smash into the back of whoever has it. Gillsinen is another. She was always knocking either Bubby or Adine over. I think a swift elbow to the chops of a few of these Aussies would set em straight. Need Vili's agro back. No backward step! |

Hell Yes!
Umpires please call the game fairly!!! I really hope we don't get Maggie Duplacy as an umpire she is terrible especially against Irene!!! I have noted for a while now that Liz Ellis is extremely close and hits the hand not the ball. That being said there are ways around it and the first and main one would be Iene - DON'T STEP IN!!!! Thats really how i think that Liz has been able to get away with it. Secondly, Irene has been playing against Liz for how long now...!!! You would think that she is on to her now wouldn't you. I think it's just a case of Irene tweaking her game a bit thats all.
What do you think?

| I would love to see the umpires take notice of Liz Ellis abit more too. I watch and rewatch alot of the Ferns games b4 going off to play indoor and she gets away with being way to close to our shooters. I know how defence works, distances and all and you cant tell me that she is 3 feet away. It seems especially when she is up against Irene she gets a little closer than normal. She has to get closer to get anywhere near Irene and she gets away with it. This is not being a one eyed Ferns supporter. I know she is good, but she aint "that" good. |

Hi Ruthraj
I'm not 100% sure and i'm not sure that anyone is except Ruth and Temepara actually. But i think it was along the lines of the fact that Belinda Colling was granted the time off then she came back from England and got straight into the Silver Ferns maybe....i stand to be corrected though. I just think that Temepara was after a bit of breathing space and Ruth should have given it to her. Once again....i stand to be corrected.

Amen to the Turbo motor! I'm not completely convinced with Anna Scarlett though.... she needs to learn some discipline and she was a Silver Ferns for years if she hasn't learnt it yet there are serious doubts if she will ever. She jumped repeatedly and was getting called for obstruction on the jump. You think she would have changed that at some point of the game but No.....! Misdirected throws a lot of the time.....these are things that i teach my primary school team and not acceptable for a Silver fern ....don't you think??? I would go with Henry personally who has a bit more grunt something needed when playing against the likes of McMahon. Don't even get me started on Adine Wilson who as you say needs to show form as a player but more so as a captain. I may even go as far as putting Bowden in there a head of her actually. Bowden, who i rate as a player is dynamic in movement and feeds really well as you said for Irene. Although, I'm not sure about Bowden and George being (c) and (wa) combination they are a bit short. Although it works for Australia!!! I hope Tutaia has been working on her speed and movement in the circle becuase that definately needed some work. Not to mention the fact that as tall as she is she is not picking up any intercepts in the midcourt. I don't think she does enough there at all and needs a bomb put under her. I would probably go with Te Huna only for the grunt factor and she does play well with Irene something Tutaia does not do. This has generated some awesome feedback keep it coming.

Thats sooooo true. That needs to be made clear. Shes like a turbo charger on a motor. You still need the motor to win. And what a motor we have! I would still like to see Anna Scarlette in there at GD. She just seems to get into the Aussie shooters heads. Langman, if fit, back to WD, Williams GK, Bubby at C, Wilson (who needs to step up as a Captain and a player) WA, Tutia (spelling?) GA and no need to state the obvious. Irene still the best, needs to be feed better ball. She cant win on her own. Mid-court is where we need to step it up. Defence and attack ends are doing there jobs.
What do you guys think? |

Hi Craigudy,
Thanks for leaving a message. I absolutely agree that we need to put our best foot forward. Unquestionably Temepara is part of that unbeatable team. That being said though there are a few others that i would like to see in their as well to make that 'best foot forward' team. Like...i strongly believe that we are lacking a GA. I would like to see Donna Wilkins or Belinda Colling in there, but that aint gonna happen. Someone with skill and grunt. The same could also be said for the defence particularly in GD. The point that i am trying to make is that i'm not sure that we have the 'Best foot forward' team even with Temepara. I just think that she gives us a better chance at getting into the final. Also, i think that New Zealand is putting way too much pressure on her. She is just one person in a team of seven.
So,
Question 'Would i have her in the team?'
Answer 'YES'
But i wouldn't be pinning all our hope on her!!!
Just me! again....

Really, at the end of the day, its about winning. If those other girls think that they are better than Bubby then fair enough to be angry. But I dont think there is anyone out there that would argue that she is our best Center. We need this win. New Zealand needs it. She has made herself available and we should grab her with both hands. Enough with the touchy feely emotionsal stuff. Lets just get out there and win. We need to stop worrying about whats happening off court and start concentrating on the "on court". We can win this. We need to take a lesson from what happened with the All Blacks and get that mongrel back. Stomp on those Aussies and dont let em get back up.
Go "THE FERNS"!!! |

Hi Paratene,
Thanks for leaving a message. It is certainly unquestionable that the Silver Ferns need Temepara and yes Langman and Temepara make an undeniable force to be reckoned with. Am also totally in sync with you about Seymour (sorry Jules). But......the fact remains that George said No! And so a team was selected. In my opinion there are 2 things to be considered here. Firstly, what kind of message do you think this would be sending to NZ if she was to be included again now only weeks out from the Champs. And do you think there is a danger there that this may set a precedence for other players to do the same. Although, coming from another angle, i see this as Ruth's last torunament with the ferns actually ( i don't know about you), that being said if i were Ruth i would chuck her in because well after the Champs i wouldn't have to deal with all the crap that would come after it. Secondly, what about the players who have committed to the ferns right from the start. I would be feeling really pissed off if she got into the team right now after i have put in the hard yards. This would not be a good state of mind for the girls to be heading into the Champs with.
Anyway, just my thoughts.
Good discussion by the way.

| We need to put our best team forward, and no matter how childish Temepara has acted (undoubtedly she has thrown a wobbly after arguing with Ruth) she is our best centre. Honestly, Seymour isn't up to it anymore. Langman is not a centre, primarily. Liana needs to be developed. If she is available play her, even if Langman is available also. My opinion anyway! |

Righto here we go,
As a first topic for discussion is the whole Temepara George thing!!!! Do we/you agree that she should be part of the team now only weeks before the World Champs. Even if Laura Langman is not fit to play???? How do you feel about this?
