How many piss poor performances like this have to happen before Aitken gets gassed?
well done to the poms. hussled and bussled us, got a bit physical.
why do ferns captains always say "we just want to get out there and play that game again." after they lose.
It was a disgraceful performance and it's no wonder netball is losing credibility. |

You know how england last week said that australia were playing dirty when they played them right! Then what was last night about. England captain Sonia Mkoloma was really dirty, contacting, forcing obstructions (you could see she was deliberately obstructing Irene van Dyk) can she not count THREE feet. My god. Wake UP england!!!

O.M.G that was a thumping! I'm not sure that Geva Mentor could have added much more really...actually our score may not have been as high as it was perhaps, but i certainly don't think they could have won. Maraia Tutaia come on down! Girlfriend....congratulat ions! Finally your starting to play some defence and it really shows and looks fantastic! But Casey Williams....what more is there to say really! A-MAZ-ZING! Definately the player of the night for me! Hopefully we can maintain intensity and consistancey for the next 2 games! I think an area of concern for the ferns though is the shooter combinations. I still don't believe that Tutaia and Van Dyk are playing as cohesively as they can and should be. If you have a look at the Aussie shooters...they are mechanical and methodical in their movement/s. They would be an absolute dream to feed. Our shooters on the other hand make it look really laboured sometimes aye. Like we have to move the ball around and around and sometimes it ends up in a worse position then it was previously. It looks good and is good when the ball is moving at pace then we're okay but if it isn't then we are in trouble. If Van Dyk and Tutaia have to move then ooooppsey! Its not pretty! Neither of them are good movers and sometimes cut each other off! I don't believe that they have a very good understanding of each others play. The aussies on the hand know exactly where the other is and what they are going to do. If our shooters got that understanding then we would be unstoppable.
What does everyone else reckon? |

I watched the game between England and Aussie last night. And i agree with ole Sue Hawkins aye the aussies were really dirty. Mo'nia Gerrard is an exceptionally good player and really doesn't need to resort to dirty tactics. At one point she contacted quite ridiculously around the circle edge and indicated to the umpire that it should have been her ball, she didn't even apologise or help Atkinson up. Are you really that arogant Mo'nia i hope not. Granted she then proceeded to get some amazing intercepts. Chatfield i have felt for a long time is a dirty player shes never 3 feet and contacts her way around the circle. To england's credit the defencesive duo of Geva Mentor and Sonia Mkloma was outstanding. But, it really showed how good a player Susan Pratly is! She stood up and beyond last night! No matter how good the defence was she still shot reasonably consistantly and moved the circle beautifully! Look believe it or not i am a New Zealander! But i've got such a love for the game that i'll give props to anyone that i think is a good player...new zealander or not! The young girl Jo Harten i think her name is had a good spell on court she just needs a bit more experience and she'll come right. Shes quick and confident but shooting percentages were down. But she kept shooting them anyway...good girl! The real downfall of the game was there shooting circle poor Geva and Sonia played there butts off and was not rewarded for their efforts! Rachel Dunn is not a good player at all, she threw the ball away too much, shot apallingly and i would have Harten on over her anytime! Tamsin Greenway i think is a good player, she needs to practice her shooting though despite the fact that she is a WA. She didn't have a good spell at GA at all!
Finally, i really hope to god that i am wrong but i'm not sure that we are going to beat England aye???? I would really love for the ferns to prove me wrong but....i don't know. We'll see on Monday! |

| Agreed Williams had an awesome game but.....i must give props when props due Tutaia had the game of the night for me! I'm usually quite critical of her but she played an awesome game. She was the man on defence and was fairly accurate in her shooting so all around she had a good game...about time though! Henry was awesome against Kim Green who is a very talented player! Well done ferns! Lets see if we can maintain this form shall wee! Katrina Grant made a good debut and hopefully we see more of her. I thought it was a good decision to start with her i probably wouldn't have taken her off though....come on Ruth she was kickin butt in there and you take her off! whats up with that! Scanlan did okay too...but if Grant was doing the job why take her off! Pleased to see Van Dyk come off and Wipiiti get some court time although she wasn't that flash, she'll get there eventually. |

craigudy never said it was easy. They put in a performance exoected of an international team last night...100x better than Wednesday, and look what happened. Makes the previous criticism justified IMO!

The girls seem to have an attitude about turn over ball, that its posession thats free to be throwing about willy-nilly. We had so much turn over ball it wasnt funny but we just squandered it with hopelessly wishful big pass's or just not treating it as GOLD. Thats the ball that wins you the game.
Maggie (I'll make the Ferns pay for having 2 ex SA players) De Plussie or what ever the hell her name is, should never be allowed to umpire New Zealand games. She is LOOOKING for things to pull us up on. Im sure the Aussies ask for her whenever they play us. She is awful.
Time for Aitken to go. End of story. She has lost that killer mentallity. Smiling insanely while your team is going down shows she aint got a clue.
We have the team to beat the Aussies, full strength too. We just need them to have better coaching and not have players shifted around out of position.

New Zealand netball coach Ruth Aitken has had enough of taking the positives from yet another narrow loss to trans-Tasman archrivals Australia.
The Silver Ferns came out on the wrong end of a 53-51 scoreline after an intense, see-sawing encounter at Christchurch last night.
And while Aitken was upbeat at the post-match press conference, maintaining that there were still plenty of encouraging signs from the match, it wasn't long before she was zeroing in on exactly where New Zealand needed to improve.
The two teams shift to Auckland for the second test on Saturday evening, and Aitken is impatient for another crack at a relatively inexperienced Australian team who had a mere 115 caps on court in Christchurch compared to New Zealand's 328.
"I can't wait," Aitken said. "We'll be looking at our full court defensive pressure and aiming to increase the pressure in our midcourt to slow them down and allow our defence time to get that ball."
She was also looking for the Silver Ferns' defensive combinations to up their effort.
"We have to really hunt that ball, have a real go at it. I think we were a little bit hesitant in that, so I'd like to see defenders really pushing hard for the ball."
Aitken was also painfully aware that the Silver Ferns needed to convert turnover possession into points on the board -- too often in Christchurch, the ball was lost before shooters Irene van Dyk and Maria Tutaia had a chance to put it through the hoop.
"We have to ensure we're steady on attack and take that safe option through. We have some awesome shooters, so we need to give them a supply of ball and they'll nail it."

Here's another thought...Were the All Blacks expected to perform to high standards when they were amatuers? Were they expected to win? The thing that hurt me the most was the smiles and the lack of hurt at having lost. Is it ok to play sub-par and lose when wearing the 'black dress'? Is that pride?
Why wasn't Aitken rolled out after they lost the world champs? NEw coach, new era, new ideas. We've got a truckload of quality coaches in this country...time for a change. |

| Here's a thought..........All Blacks are paid god knows how much more to play than the Silver Ferns, I think that if the team loses then they all should pay - not just the coach. The players know how to play the game and if they lose they should lose some of their "PAY", maybe then we'll see some winning. By the way - the pathetic commentators should be given the boot too, Julie Coney is a complete moron - and so is that silly B***H who commentated on the Olympics. |
