| Finals should be one game only. You could argue that a series of games would be more fair in determining which team is the best, but then that's what we have test series for. The World Championship is not a test series. It is about who can produce their A game when it is needed most. Plus you can't beat the drama of a one off final. |

| Agree with some of what you said ernest, but personally once it got to the q/f I would like to see best of 3 series between each quarter finalist. |

As expected by most it is an Aussie vs Ferns final. It's a pity that the format of the tournament has governed that there will be no Eng v Ferns or Aus v Jam game. Especially as Eng beat NZ in their last encounter. Some people have been saying that the English were not as good as their hype because of what happened in the semi, but to be fair that was just one high pressure game. A round robin allowing each of the top teams to play each other before the knock out stage would have been preferable. It would probably mean the competition would have to last an extra week, but it still wouldn't compare with the drawn out Rugby world cup tournament. A few more rest days would also allow some of the lesser teams to give more when playing the big guns, rather than taking it easy with the view of targeting games in which they have a more realistic chance of doing well.
Now, as far as the final goes I can see a couple of possible scenarios. Either both teams start equally well and go goal for goal the entire match, with the outcome only decided in the last few minutes of the game. Or as has happened a few times in the past the Aussies come out of the blocks strong, while the Ferns are tentative and nervous. The Aussies establish a good lead, something like 15-8 after the first quarter. The Ferns slowly peg it back as the game continues, but never get closer than a couple of goals. In summary, the Aussies deserve to be slight favourites given recent results, but with home court advantage the Ferns should be right in it, and the prospect of them holding on to their world crown is certainly on the cards. |
