DAMMIT..... We done it ourselves.
We had the players in the team, it was just a matter of the coaches putting them in the rights place.

GK - Casey
GD - Joline
WD - Laura
C - Julie
WA - Maree (but Capatin couldnt come off) so Adine
GA - Jodie but Maria should have come on half time.
GS - Irene

With this defencive Magic line-up it would have worked much better. Juile is a stronger C than Laura at the moment this would have boasted up the attacking end. Big thumbs up to Laura who has not had alot of time in C & her stepping up from the withdrawel of Temepara, Laura has been awesome.

Adine had alot of flat patches thoroughout the week as the news explained itself. Maree played outstanding. I thought she could have had an impact, if put on.

Jodie started passing to Irene instead of using her position GA and putting up the shots. Maria would and can shot anywhere, playing Maria could or could not have been a good change.

The Players in the team were available I dont think they were played right. There was potential in every player selected to represent us.

I just cant understand WHY Paula Griffin was selected in the team, when Ruth didn't play her in a game where we were winning by 50 goals. Everyone has to start somewhere, give Paula a break, trust her and give you a blast. Although she hasn't been starting line up for franchise, but give this girl a chance will ya. Why else is she there?

CASEY has been outstanding, Casey is the future, possibly our Future Captain in time.
Young girl, with a good head screwed on.

Hard luck ferns. Keep heads up.

I think a few fingers are being point at the people!!! Julie shouldn't have started the match of at WD at all, It was a wise move slotting Joline Henry in there. I think Te Huna Held up fine( well she's the best GA we have at the moment) I felt Irene's hands let her down far to much in the final!! also missing those 3 vital goals in the last quater which 1 of them would have brought us evens with aussie. I have no idea why she moves so much!! She gets all tangled up in her own legs and cuts Te Huna's drive off into the circle!!! Langman will grow into the Centre bibb, she didnt do to bad, a few bad passes into Irene I'm not sure if Julie would have done any better (she just doesn't have presence on court, you like forget that she's out there)We really didnt have the team to do the damage, needed Temapara and Donna out there
Gk-Cassie
GD-Sheryl
WD-Laura
C -Temapara
WA-Adine
GA-Donna
GS-Irene

Also Take a bow for Cassie!!!! You are the bomb!!! Played and amazing game!! You are my Idol!!!

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
Half the team stepped up and half the team didn't.

In my mind two players lost us the game: Langman and Te Huna.

Langman is a WD and trying to make a centre out of her is not going to work. Often she would throw BACK to Henry whilst Van Dyk had a great hold on Ellis and was waving her arm frantically!

Te Huna choked, plain and simple. She did so against Australia in the F&P Test Series earlier in the year.

Williams and Henry kept us in the game. If it wasn't for our defense the score would have ballooned.

Aitken needed to take Te Huna off, even a non-hungry and sulky player like Tutaia would have at least put the ball up, and that's what needed to happen.

I believe we lost the game, and not that Australia won it - as ungracious as it sounds. I don't see why everyone lauds Ellis? She is never three feet and is constantly infringing. She is not overtly dirty but she is nonetheless - that is my opinion.

McMahon was in terrible form last night. Scanlan shut her down brilliantly.

If the ball was feed faster and Te Huna put it up, without a doubt I believe we would have won. We came from 7 down to 1 down. We had the goods, just didn't have the execution. I still have hope that once the younger players have developed and are top-game resilient, we will be number one again.

Who are we kidding. We were the defending champion and we blew it.There is too much self praising and less respect for the opponents. We will always be a bad loser.Typical KIWI I would say!!!!

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
I thought the ferns didn't play well at all in both the semi final and the final match. At this level there can be no mistakes. The aussies played a flawless match and fired from the get go. The ferns brought their A Game to the last quarter - too little too late..

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
ONE THING THAT ANNOYS ME is that all these teams spend 4 years preparing to be the best and when it comes down to the 2 best teams to fight it out, they at least have the right to get the worlds best umpires, why have rules when the umpires completly ignore them. the best deserves the best and we are not getting it what a joke.
at least they consistently picked on both sides ecept for the obstruction rule

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
New Zealand will never win until they start playing to win like Oz. The only quarter they come out fighting and got the Ozzies of their backs literally they pulled back the score but then they lost the fight again and let them all over them. Stop praising themselves and just do it might help. They lost because they made mistakes and were overwhelmed.

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
Adine gets her tips from Jeff and Ritchie (zilch), Laura panics handing Oz the ball at will, Irene comes from Lala land, Ruthie get your knitting out. I say 'Bring Back Buck!'

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
I watched all the games NZ played and predicted a loss to australia before the game started. It was clear through previous games that wilson has lost form. She throws the ball away (recall 5 times against jamaica, saw a few against Australia) and she is slow in feeding the shooters. Tehuna also had lost confidence and this was noticable in the first quarter. In the first quarter is when both these players should have been replaced. Henry should have started also. I was surprised in jamaica's game that wilson was never replaced at all considering that she played a big role in the silver ferns not gaining flow of the ball. It's hard for the ball to flow when the captain is throwing it away! Seems to be a bit of favouritism from the coach?

Irene is too predictable, the aussies know her game plan now and she wasn't having a good one last night.

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
I agree. Irene is not to blame however she did show a lack of confidence in herself at times. Jodi te Huna was nothing like the player she was against Jamaica. Adine was nothing short but TERRIBLE. The sooner she goes the better. Laura had a game of two halves. Great in the first, and was left behind in the second. As much as i think julie Seymour is a Freak of nature running around with people years younger and still able to keep up and if not better than her opponent I would have liked to see her for at least a half. The circle defence were nothing but awesome. They really did leave there bodies on the court!!

Re:Time for some reality Reply to this message
I think Irene played well, but bad ball from Langman and Wilson was never going to get there. Te Huna wouldnt even put up a shot, the opposite of Cox at the other end, ok Cox's shots werent always going in but as she says "You miss 100% of the shots you dont take". Te Huna had a great rebounder in Van Dyk, she should have had a go. On the flip side tough circle edge defence like Gilsenan and von Bertouch arent going to let that ball be passed out from the circle, they will snap it up or force the high ball which Liz Ellis will eat up.

So glad Australia won and please Adine Wilson - the cup was never yours to begin with, it was the great Anna Rowberry's - so dont say in you post match speech that its "Liz's turn", shes more of a champion than you could ever be. Adine is most ungracious Captain ever. Kicking the ball? Throwing it down and having the umpire advance the penalty.. Keep seymour on and drag the captain.. you may have had a chance.

Theres some reality for you.

If there hadbeen an attempt to throw this game, it could only have been better disguised.
It's time for some changes.
Seymore was the only effective player out there but if it comes down to who tossed the match away you couldn't go past Langman, Wilson, Van Dyke. The three stooges. Why is it that no one ever says what they mean about Wilson?
She simply insn't up to it. Get shot of here, and Langman was a flash in the pan....Coaching team!..................we ll, aside from looking like they had just come from a Dads In Drag competition, they couldn't put together a half decent strategy if they tried.
