I agree. I think they made the right decision in picking Julie Seymour as captain. She has the experience and can lead from the front. It is no use putting Laura Langman or Casey Williams out there. Captain Material of course but let them get a taste of it in being co-vice captains first. Julie is a captain you can just see it and with test veterans like Irene van Dyk and Sheryl Scanlan in the mitts of it all they should potentially be the best. Good team especially naming Daneka Wipiiti. She is my first choice goal-shoot/goal attack with Irene. Maria Tutaia struggles under pressure (did you see her in the ANZ Champs)Plenty of time for her to make her mark. Can't wait for September, 17.

If you had of told me Julie Seymour would be Captain of the Ferns at the start of this year, I would've eaten my hat. But, after her performance in the ANZ I am happy for her to be there. She is a care-taker captain, remember that. Casey and Laura are being groomed, and dont need to be thrust into it before they are ready.
Seymour is aggressive and I'd like you to find someone fitter than her. She is an old head. And with no Bubby there she is the next best thing.
Give her a go, its not forever. |

Captaincy is so hard to think about...Who has the power to step up. You need to rely on the experienced players. I think that Laura Langman & Julie Seymour will be announced as captain and vice. Irene is a brilliant player but needs to focus on herself as a individual player, rather than the entire team. Laura & Julie are the only players that can cope with that kind of pressure. But remember its one thing to judge, its another to get out there and represent your country. We are the quickest to judge them on their performances (good & bad) without realising that they are trying to make us proud regardless of a win (no matter how much we would like one) They are playing for us!

You have answered your own question John, Under 19 Captain! give her a bit more time to mature, she is doing very well and focussing on her tasks to be worried about captaining at this point. she will make a great captain when the time comes. Irene not a captains head has got, she has some trouble looking after herself, still a great shooter though, takes a lot of time to settle with another player needs to remain focussed on her own job. Jolene Henry on the other hand is mature and quite able to cope with the task of captain. Has good peer skills, shows great leadership qualities, knows the team both as a unit and individually and can still hold her own game. Could be what the ferns need. We should be more concerned about Ruth! Is she up to the task of coaching? I think she's made some stupid calls in the recent past and she doesn't do much for bonding of the team she expects to go out and beat the worlds best. In my opinion!

At the moment their is only one way to go and thats EXPERIENCE! You need that especially against the likes of Australia. My Silver Ferns them at this exact moment would be GS-Irene van Dyk, GA-Maria Tutaia, WA-Liana Barrett-Chase, C-Laura Langman, WD-Joline Henry, GD-Leana de Bruin, GK- Casey Williams. You can't rely on the younger players to step up. Oh and Laura Langman from captaincy! Good form of late. Give it to her.

Captain will be interesting. Laura and Casey captain material but not yet, def in the future.
Leave Adine at home she is no use, always throwing away Ball out the backline. Barret-Chase will not make Ferns this year. The team as it was is awesome, I think bring back Debbie White, Maria Tutaia has the GA bib, making way for a shooter left by Jodie Brown. Thats a mystery. Put Laura back in WD she is unbeliveable there. |

no not interesting. Put laura to WD, move Joline to GD or leana, with Casey at GK, unstopable defense. WA Bowden is doing wonders there

So........what are you saying? Nicol/Rumble should still be in the Ferns. And Aitken shouldnt be picking anyone from Waikato because thats her region? Yeah, that would make the Ferns alot stronger wouldnt it.

Ruth Aiken should have never dropped Lesley Nicol. She only dropped her to make way for Laura Langman who comes from the same franchise area as Aiken

I think Scanlan will get dropped for Grant... She's still a bit green (well a lot actually) but she's made more of an impact than Scanlan has. And since Henry's proved to be serviceable at WD, the entire defencive third should be covered quite well with Williams/De Bruin/Henry/Grant and Langman/Barret-Chase/Bowd en/Seymour in the mid...
I agree about Bowden, shes been our most consistent WA in the ANZC (alongside Coffin) but I cant help but think shes a 'stand-in' until someone younger/better comes along to take up the role... I hope she can prove me wrong though... |

True, shame though. I hope she is developed in a lower level. I like her agressive play. She looks hungry for the ball. Maree Bowden has been playing well too, her for WA. We have an over kill of GDs though. De Brainne, Tod, Henry, Scanlan, someones going to miss out, cant have all them there. De Brainne can cover GK so suppose thats her in. Toss-up for the rest.

I don't think anyone has really put their hand up for captain but Laura seems likely to be able to stand up to the task. (Time will tell) As for the future prospects of the team I think we're a bit light at WA so selectors will be watching Grace Rassmussen and maybe Leith since I think she did OK against some big defence. But they *need* more court time to prove their worth! Litchwark wont make it, shes good but with Liana BC almost certain to be elevated it would mean Laura can retake her primary position. Which leaves Litchwark redundant...

I think laura or casey will be captain as they r both showing great potentail and r experinenced but r still both young.I think Maria has really stepped up this season when she has been playing 4 magic nd it has been really good 4 her playing with Irene, I still think Julie game is good and she is 1 of the fitest there, so go girls keep up the good work!

Either Langman or Williams. Those two are almost guaranteed starters and are smart enough to change the way they play during the game. If they can read it and change it and are well respected, give it to one of them.

Irene would not be able to captain the national team as she has to manage herself on court which I think she has problems doing anyway.... and what is it with Julie Seymour still playing at national level???? Cmon, give us more young players who will be our future for a few years to come! Why is it that all our midcourters have similar styles and when you really watch them, they can be the ones that lose the game for their teams...losing possession by silly passes to no where. They are the quickest players on the court but they can be blamed for alot.....cheerz
