It is now the third quarter and Ruth has rung in a few changes qhich i will reserve judgement on until the end. I might have given Wipiiti a go in at GS actually and pulled Tutaia. De Bruin has come on beautifully and now Williams is getting the support that she needs. I think i would have left Langman in at WA and Seymour at C and maybe Scanlan at WD. The attack is really f&%&ing it up for them now!
and hell yeh bring on Wilkins and George...you can't tell me that Tutaia or Van Dyk are better at GA than Wilkins and nobody is better than George at C. I wouldn't suggest at all that they are as over the hill as Buck!!!!! please! |

Well its the end of the first quarter and the ferns aren't as bad as i had envisaged. I would probably suggest one positional change in Scanlan and Henry but we'll see how it goes for the next quarter. Langman is going surprisingly well at WA.

Hmmm well i agree with you in part karlacaviale re Sheryl Scanlan and her abismal season with the Northern Mystics....but who would you suggest replace her.... i'm not sure that there is a suitable replacement....Jodi Todd???? she had a banner start to the season but finished appallingly! Wendy Telfer maybe??? hmmmmm i think Ruth made a quality decision based on the quality of the those she had to choose from. Agreed Scanlan didn't have a good season but if thats all there is...then thats all there is ....unfortunately. I too share the same concerns about the GA position and concur that Ana Thompson may have been provided Ruth with more shooting combinations and options...i think we need to saddle up people this is not going to be pretty!
Now in terms of Julie Seymour as captain.... i am really disappointed! JULIE SEYMOUR!!!! what the 'f' man! Williams and Langman have earnt that role fair and square! Seymour is a has been! She has already been captain and we all know how that turned out! why is it different now! We want to move forward not go back! Williams and Langman are the future!
Temepara George and Donna Wilkins please come back!!!!!

| The silver ferns team has been named and in all honesty I'm surprised by some of the selections. Sheryl Scanlan had a less than mediocre season in the anz championship. I thought she'd be cut from the top 12 but somehow she's still there. Maybe Ruth Aitken is taking the loyalty approach over performance (NZ coaches are starting to develop that reputation) . Their has been alot of hohah about the WA bib but Maree Bowden is more than capable of filling that role. My concern is the GA position. Tutaia played the final part of the season as GS and Australia are going to gobble up Van Dyk if she steps up to that position. Griffin and Wipiti are more charateristically goal shooters. Ruth should have kept Ana Thompson. She's a great feeder and was the only one out of the bunch consistently playing GA for the season. On top of that she's got a tough edge to her which most of the NZ shooters lack (except Wipiti). Seymour deserves the captaincy but overall I'm not entirely convinced that this team has what it takes to beat those Aussies. I hope that Ruth can prove me wrong. |

it's also the australian psyche. we're not taught, across the board, to be ruthless enough in our performance. the swifts are a happy team because they were winning. If they were in the same position as the pulse they wouldn't have had such a fun time would they?
a couple of times irene was under the net, unmarked, arms waving for the ball, why did the pass not go straight to her, instead, feed tutaia with 2 defenders on her at the edge of the circle. Vision, confidence and ruthlessness. It's a professional game, expect professional performances. |

| well said m.graham i agree! Kathryn Harby-Williams also summed it up nicely when she said...a team of champions was brought down by a champion team! No-one is taking anything away from the Swift girls! They look like an absolutely awsome bunch of girls! And i make no apologies for taking my netball seriously! its fun! |

Good advice to all coaches and players out there who take their sport a tad too serious and forget that fun goes a long way in building the confidence of players and bringing the best out in them too. |

Not good, same story different sport.
Between the Rugby and the Netball we all want refunds but we need to gut it out and go forward.
Lady's love the passion, popped in as the Boys are fuming in the Rugby Blogs about the Test and we are hoping they get up this weekend.

Hmmmmmm,
What happened last night?
I've jsut finished reading this article that talks about how Magic players are blaming themselves and i agree with that to some degree! 2 players in particular were below average and so should have been dragged! This should have been planned for in their game plan! In saying that though one of them was dragged in Jodi Todd! She left poor KC high and dry sometimes! Granted KC left the circle way too many times last night. Todd, has not been the same since her injury! I would have pulled her off at the end of the first quarter or at the very least half time! Henry needed to go baack to GD earlier! The other person who was absolutely abysmal was Maria Tutaia. She has not been performing over the last month or two even! she should have been taken off or really worked on! Ultimately, the real game killer for Magic was....BAD COACHING DECISIONS! Not to take anything away from the Swifts they are a quality side! but the line up for Magic that started the game was not the strongest line up! They didn't give the Swifts the respect they deserve and got slapped back down for it! It could be argued that the line up has worked for Magic over the last couple of weeks and yes it has......barely! lets not forget against the Thunderbirds they won alright but it was not a convincing win at all! The line up should have been:
GS: Irene
GA: Maria (would've later dragged her for Bridgett Tapene)
WA: Amigene
C: Laura
WD: Jodi
GD: Jolene
GK: Williams
I would have dragged Marai for Bridgett because Bridgett would have brought movement and would have out up the shot. Magic struggled to get it in and are not good at throwing the ball around untill the shooters get themselves sorted. Bridgett is a better mover. Hmmm i dunno.....but i would have worked Maria to the ground in preparation for this! whats even more disconcerting is she is our likely option for GA for the Ferns!!! A little snap shot perhaps!!!!!! i bloody hope not!

| rkarah take a chill pill and get over it, that was what you call a netball game. the whole team had a quiet game no confidence in themselves to pass the ball they allowed swifts to make them play the game their way.maria does have to step up tho and get the goals otherwise we may as well play table tennis. |
