| What is the point of this thread? I think some people have their own taste of sports and thats that. If some people like league then they will follow league. I myself watch both, so stop being haterz and get over it. By the way i prefer rugby union. More tactical, and you are actually contesting for the ball and thats why i like union more, Its the contest. |

understand your passion, and I ain't attacking anyone, i like league, i'm a league follower, obviously some of just don't like union, so i think it should be just left at that, no ones winning any arguments in all this because you can guarantee someone's gonna come back with more and more insulting remarks and on it goes, lame in the fullest. |

dude... not me... Not my style to rubbish another sport, in fact I have already explained I enjoy both league and union...
so lets look at this thread
"LEAGUE BEFORE RUGBY"
ahem... so who is attacking who here, and then who is feeling compelled to defend their sport???... and as I said my experience is that league fans will attack union far more often then the other way around... |

dude, you rugby followers are the ones writing out essays trying to get your points across
different strokes for different folks people, I don't see any league fans going to the rugby sites going on and on and on |

Oh and one other thing I forgot to mention, which is highlighted by this topic, League people are far more critical of Union then Union people are of League.
It is almost like a big brother little brother thing, where the little brother has to try and get some attention and the most common way for league people to do that is by attacking union.
Personally I think it actually makes league people look a bit pathetic when they do that. Just enjoy your game, and leave the union guys to enjoy theirs. Attacking union and complaining about it, is NOT going to get anyone in union to convert to league, all it does is make you look stupid.
And trust me, hardly anyone in Union gives a flying whark about league, so why come across as being so obsessed with Union. |

Chalk and cheese.
Having played both and having been involved in both sports at many levels.
League is easier to play, as it is simple to follow. I also enjoyed playing league because you could rest. As a forward the fitness levels required are no where near those required in union. There are times in league you can rest, you are constantly running in union.
Union does take more thinking, and it has more battles within the battle. As a prop I truly loved the up front contest, between you and your opposite. You do not get those same battles in league.
Union also is a game that requires more specialty, and therefore it is more of a game for everyone, regardless of body shape. The thing about league is big and strong are it really, and you can be a prop one week and a centre the next.
As for watching the games. League is a perfect TV sport, as most, if not all, the action is centred on the ball. Union is better to watch live as a lot happens away from the ball. Defensive patterns, attacking moves.
I also recall attending an AB test one night and a Kiwi one the next, and the union crowd is far better behaved, they tend to get into the event more with good relaxed moods, the league crowd was more hostile, had more anger, and was more intent on getting wasted.
Rugby is far more global then league and so the international games tend to mean more. But at provincial level Union can get a bit bogged down with politics. We have far more union to watch then league, which is both good and bad for union.
All and all I can easily say I prefer union as a spectator, enjoyed playing both equally, and enjoyed coaching/managing league more. |
