nice points gregory.
i suppose only time will tell (i pray i'm wrong) but 2010 concerns me more NOW then it did before mannering was given the captaincy.
Your points on players listening to him may or may not be true but don't forget his responsablities are far more reaching then just on the pitch, he has to deal with the refs' (making sure those idiots are getting more decisions right then wrong), off field commitments...media responsabilities with post and pre-match interviews(we all know how tough the media can be at the best of times. He's has to give speechs here, talk to this company, that charity, More TV interviews, radio chats, schools, Fans and thats just here in NZ there still aussie who have a few thousand warriors Fans...the list is long.
This is why steve says he may struggle this year because theres a lot more to being the captain of the only NRL team in NZ then just calling the shots on the field.
I hope the guy proves me wrong and if we make the final 4 next year because of his captaincy.....i'll be back on this thread giving my apologies to the "Captain Mannering club" |

Hehe, great stuff mt252378
Can't underestimate your passion that's for certain.
just touching on some of your points about this issue
2) So you guarantee he will struggle as captain aye?
fair point considering he's never been captain, but I sincerely hope not.
3) Hopefully Price can put the dissapointment aside and produce some good league, but that's what you don't want before the season has even begun, heat amongst the players, that's a worry.
4) Agree. Fair call.
5) This is where I tend to disagree, even he himself seemed perplexed at the decision making him captain, but I believe he does have leadership characteristics, as he seems to lead by actions more then words, he has guys who grew up together coming up through the age group levels like Manu Vatuvei. Patrick Ah Van. Sam Rapira. Mataupu Poching. Lance Hohaia. Issac John. Ben Matulino. Dan O Regan. so these guys will listen to Mannering, add Tate, Price, Luck, all these experienced aussie guys, bodes well for a good season (hopefully). |

Hi Gregory
I stated in another post somewhere, my reasons why Mannering should be captain, (thats good)
1) He's the first player written down on the team sheet every week (agreed)
2) He's the warriors most consistent player year in, year out, to be fair, the whole warriors season proved was shyte (yes he is BUT you put C next to his name gurantee he will struggle this year)
3) This is Prices last year with the club so it's only right to groom the next person before his departure, not only that, Price will still be included in a leadership role anyhow
(reading between the lines pricey is upset and may not be as helpful as he says he's going to be)
4) Some would say he's somewhat inexperienced to lead the Warriors but I tend to disagree, He's played 4 to 5 seasons straight now, consisitently as well, been part of the Kiwis world cup winning squad, he has the respect of the players around him, also winning player of the year in 2008 for the Warriors, so he does have the requirements to lead. (I agree but all this is without been the captain, all these could be put next to a lot of players in the NRL and they are not captains)
5) Only time will tell if it's a move in the right direction, much adulation for Price, but good things don't last forever, yes he sort of did deserve to bow out as leader of the Warriors, but I'm sure we'll see some great footy from Price without the extra pressure or burden of captaincy. (i hope im wrong but Simon has not shown any characteristics to say he would make a good captain) |

| There was a season when they had co captians. Imagine that! Pricey passing on his experience to the young Mannering. That way Steve Price exits the Warriors gracefully and retains mana, Simon Mannering gains knowledge and The team is in good hands. |

| There was no stronger leadership than Steve Price, and wont be for many years now. He's been shafted by a 'club' that has failed its fans. It even resigned a coach who had reached his use by date. |

why oh why have the warriors chosen the most inexperienced person to lead the warriors next year?.
Love Simon....but he is no way a first grade captain for a whole 2010 season.
the new season has not started and they have already made one of the most dumbest decision.
you don't choose simon after the shyte season we just had. thats not fair on him and it may knock his confidence and possibly his on field performance.
even simon said he was surprised and not sure how he would handle it.
someone shoot the management before they kill our 2010 season before its begun. |
