Jarro and Melanie...don't talk about things you have no idea what you are talking about. Just because you get an idea and want to tell people about it doesn't mean you can. Its not a discrace to give it a go!! just like you did coming in on our league thread with your poor comments and your confusion if you are a boy or a girl....ok maybe that is a disgrace!!
We now know your opinion...can now get LOST like all the other no gooders that have come on here and gone before you.! |

jarrod.melanie (great hermaphrodite name by the way).....I agree that the warriors do under achieve but a disgrace to NZ sport....bit harsh. An Auckland based playing in an OZ comp??? Firstly last years squad of 32 had like 12 from AKL clubs and the other 20 from Oz and the rest of NZ and that OZ comp happens to be the toughest league comp in the world.
"Couldn't careless if they come first or last" - great attitude....ummm did your parents used to pat you on the back when you came last and say its not about winning as long as you gave it a go.
P.S Please go put all your money the warriors finishing in the bottom half of the table. |

| Don't really know how you can get excited about such an under achieving disgrace to NZ sport. To even refer to them as a NZ team is a joke. They are an Auckland team playing in an OZ comp. Couldn't careless if they come first or last but if I was putting money on it, the bottom half of the table would be the safest bet. |

Yes, Pricey is a legend of the game however we dont know what goes on behind the scenes. I do feel a co-captaincy may have been a better option, leaving Price with the role his "game" and experience have earned him.
I think the bulk of the problems the Warriors have experienced stem from management and coaching however. Some very poor decisions over the past few years particularly the great talent we have let go.
At least we retain Pricey, get a fresh Tate back and have some wonderful NZ talent in amongst the team and they'll want a better season this time around.
Price will want to go out on top.....nothing will change that I reckon.
At least we had little off field drama to contend with which is a tribute to the NZ club.
Still the best game in the world eh !! |

chook in one fowl swoop you have cancelled your whole argument, pricey did all those charge downs and meter eaters as you call them in all the years he's been with the warriors...so not sure what you mean by "of old". You can say the same about Mannering one dimension, just tackles like luck. if luck was not inspiring why did they continue with him all last year.(BUT you are right about 1 thing Luck is not an inspsiring captain, they should of given it to mannering last year and see how he went, i'm just arguing a point)
Hohia...you are kidding he is no more inspiring then Mannering. I love both players but i know they have not shown any credientails as captain. Time as Vice should of been a great indicator, that way he can do his apprenticeship and take over either halfway or next year...not 15years....what are you talking about!!
BUT you are a roosters fan so your opinion has no real value and if i had my way your mate Cleary would be out on his ASSSP back to help your roosters.
Good luck with your new coach and willie mason. |

| Nice evaluation of Mannerings responsibilities as captain, refs, off field commitments, media, pre match interviews, companies, charitys, I'm sure Mannering will have his minders and advisers just as pricey did so he doesn't suffer media burnout and paparazzi hounding, still the most inspiring player we've had without a doubt is Kevin Campion, he wasn't that good at all those off field commitments and post match interviews and all that, but he led by actions more then words, I'm hoping the Same with Mannering, I hope he can settle into all those off field time consuming distractions and remember why he's been made captain, to lead from the front on the field and inspire those around him, just like Price, Campion, Wiki and Stacey Jones did in their time as captain. |

| I don't know if the rumours are true or not or whether or not it's just perception, but price didn't seem to be that inspirational yardage gainer of old, all he looked intent on doing this year was being a metre eater and that's it, without the inspiration, chargedowns, and special plays he's capable of pulling off at soo time or international time, he looked stale this year so the time might have been right for change, unfortunately for mannering it seems it's been handed to him without prior warning or proper consultation, also, cleary chopped and changed his team every week so it made no difference who the captain was because the captain never got the chance to inspire the same troops week in week out to maintain consistency |

Im a roosters fan first and foremost, if your all for the future and small steps first, then you might as well wait another fifteen years
"why not michael luck"?
dude, because he doesn't inspire those around him and he's a one dimensional footballer, it's all well and good making 1000 tackles in a game, but none of those tackles have sting to them he's just a tackler and that's it, what else does he bring to the table?. nothing
over here in aus, luck is a duck mate, he's your average toiler who will get you absolutley nowhere as captain, this year proved it, he captained the warriors and they were no better then if someone else had've been captain,
no offence mate, but you gotta think of someone who can inspire, hohaia could have been an option |

Fair enough tad. BUT my question to you is "why not Michael Luck"? surely he's earned that spot. Theres has been no word of any issues or players revolt against pricey(unless you know something that no one in NZ knows about)
yes you are correct Price is getting on BUT this is not the answer by replacing the captain with an inexperienecd one, i'm all for the future but small steps first. we need to win more games in 2010 not in the future. as per my comments below, mannering should not shoulder 2010 as captain especailly since we fininshed in 14th place (and thats nothing to do with Pricey's captaincy, thats more of a team effort)and i'll say it again...MANNERING WAS JUST AS SURPRISED TO BE the DUMPED CAPTAIN AS MANNERING WAS TO BE ASKED TO TAKE OVER STEVE's Captaincy. Mannering said, and i paraphraise "he was surprised by the whole thing and didn't know how to quite take it" (his words)that tells me he's not ready, if he is the real deal he would of said "Yep I'm ready" or at least say "thats great but let me be the Vice and if by end of 2010 i still want the job then i take the mantle in 2011" that way he gets some time by steve who would teach him things and when steve is on SOO or Kangaroo duties (presuming Mannering is not selected by the kiwis) he can take over as Captain. TOOOOO EASYY!! |

You people have got it all wrong. There have been rumours for the last half of the season that Price's leadership style was wearing thin on alot of the players and management withinn the club. If you don't have the support of the players then there is no point continuing on as captain. Now is the right time to change the captaincy. Mannering has been around along time but is still young enough to be there for a few years yet unlike Luck.
Price is in his last year so it made sense for him to hand over the mantle and help in anyway he can. Plus he is not playing club footy for 3-4 weeks during state of origin.
I think it was the best thing for the club as they obviously have problems that need to be fixed before next season. Go the warriors and good luck for next season. |

nice points gregory.
i suppose only time will tell (i pray i'm wrong) but 2010 concerns me more NOW then it did before mannering was given the captaincy.
Your points on players listening to him may or may not be true but don't forget his responsablities are far more reaching then just on the pitch, he has to deal with the refs' (making sure those idiots are getting more decisions right then wrong), off field commitments...media responsabilities with post and pre-match interviews(we all know how tough the media can be at the best of times. He's has to give speechs here, talk to this company, that charity, More TV interviews, radio chats, schools, Fans and thats just here in NZ there still aussie who have a few thousand warriors Fans...the list is long.
This is why steve says he may struggle this year because theres a lot more to being the captain of the only NRL team in NZ then just calling the shots on the field.
I hope the guy proves me wrong and if we make the final 4 next year because of his captaincy.....i'll be back on this thread giving my apologies to the "Captain Mannering club" |

Hehe, great stuff mt252378
Can't underestimate your passion that's for certain.
just touching on some of your points about this issue
2) So you guarantee he will struggle as captain aye?
fair point considering he's never been captain, but I sincerely hope not.
3) Hopefully Price can put the dissapointment aside and produce some good league, but that's what you don't want before the season has even begun, heat amongst the players, that's a worry.
4) Agree. Fair call.
5) This is where I tend to disagree, even he himself seemed perplexed at the decision making him captain, but I believe he does have leadership characteristics, as he seems to lead by actions more then words, he has guys who grew up together coming up through the age group levels like Manu Vatuvei. Patrick Ah Van. Sam Rapira. Mataupu Poching. Lance Hohaia. Issac John. Ben Matulino. Dan O Regan. so these guys will listen to Mannering, add Tate, Price, Luck, all these experienced aussie guys, bodes well for a good season (hopefully). |

Hi Gregory
I stated in another post somewhere, my reasons why Mannering should be captain, (thats good)
1) He's the first player written down on the team sheet every week (agreed)
2) He's the warriors most consistent player year in, year out, to be fair, the whole warriors season proved was shyte (yes he is BUT you put C next to his name gurantee he will struggle this year)
3) This is Prices last year with the club so it's only right to groom the next person before his departure, not only that, Price will still be included in a leadership role anyhow
(reading between the lines pricey is upset and may not be as helpful as he says he's going to be)
4) Some would say he's somewhat inexperienced to lead the Warriors but I tend to disagree, He's played 4 to 5 seasons straight now, consisitently as well, been part of the Kiwis world cup winning squad, he has the respect of the players around him, also winning player of the year in 2008 for the Warriors, so he does have the requirements to lead. (I agree but all this is without been the captain, all these could be put next to a lot of players in the NRL and they are not captains)
5) Only time will tell if it's a move in the right direction, much adulation for Price, but good things don't last forever, yes he sort of did deserve to bow out as leader of the Warriors, but I'm sure we'll see some great footy from Price without the extra pressure or burden of captaincy. (i hope im wrong but Simon has not shown any characteristics to say he would make a good captain) |

| There was a season when they had co captians. Imagine that! Pricey passing on his experience to the young Mannering. That way Steve Price exits the Warriors gracefully and retains mana, Simon Mannering gains knowledge and The team is in good hands. |
