Re:2008 kiwi rugby league world cup team ... Reply to this message
my reasonings for having webb there are:
Nigel Vagana and Vinnie Anderson have been used in #6 position before, and i feel webb provides the type of 6 play that will be needed to counter act locky
my reasons for webb at 6
1.he plays 1st reciever at times for leeds and has also played 1st reciever for the warriors in the past while still having the #1 jersey,so obviously he can play there.
2.Hes Deceptively strong
3.Line Breaker
4.Hes a good tactical kicker off his left foot, like lockyer
5.He can defend, not so good in the centenary test, but ive seen better defence from webby
as for benji:well all he really needs to do is feed the scrum and pull off a few magic touches here and there cause his d will always be suspect with those dodgy shoulders and benjis the other reason ive got rangi chase on my bench, cause rangis a goer, and if benji falls over,on comes rangi chase. (sorry for the unnecessary history lesson)

Good team di13

As always though the halves are dodgy aye

dont know that marshall is a good 7, he is a better 2nd receiver, I'd have him at 6 and Chase or Fien at 7 but even a combination like that is gonna struggle against a Lockyer/Thurston combo

Bang on there mc. Gallpop and his circus of clowns need to have a look at themselves. When gaz went, the warning bells were there. They looked the other way as if it didnt happen and when the they looked back SBW was gone. Im a leaguie thru and thru but id love to see SBW playin for the ABs.

Re:2008 kiwi rugby league world cup team ... Reply to this message
Whats all this fuss about SBW? He signed a contract in good faith with the Bulldogs that players would remain around for the sake of the club but then up leaves Mason, OMeley and co! Therefore you could say that the contract was never really honored in good faith! Given that, he should be entitled to leave or at the very least be compensated for it. He is a super star (albeit a young and possbily naive one) of the game but for him to remain in the game the club and even the NRL needed to front up. I suspect they are more worried about the consequences of it being repeated with other players rather than just SBW. The IRB wont do a thing, do you think the NRL did anything when the rugby players shifted? Not a chance. They only have themselves to blame.

Pritchard and Williams gone.... big loss to nz's chances of winning the world cup..... if only Williams left for rugby after the world cup!!! would've been good to have him

I think Ruben has done his dash and Id prefer to remember him in devastating form for the kiwis. Time to blood in some young guns and put a bit of pride back into wearing black. Holding onto the likes of Cayless, Swann, Faiumu, Motu Tony the Anderson bros etc is just showing how desperate we are when we dont need to be.

Its time for management to stop looking after their own reps and giving the old heads the boot and blood in some young blood who have shown they have the goods in the NRL. See, no UK players and that how it should stay. Dont care how hot they look over there but defensively our UK lads let the Kiwis down.

By george I think you have nailed it!!! But to be honest I don't like your bench..Nathan Fien on bench..and Vatuvei could be bench to cover forwards and backs..(where he should be)..who really wants to roll the dice if he is gonna have one of his shockers in a world cup semi. I live on the gold coast and have been to all there games this season..Everyone has overlooked the youngster Jordan Rapana..If you want to difuse Folau he is the man..Never seen anyone fly that high and come down with ball.Good to see no one has Ben Roberts in there team, he is shthouse!

IMO, I'd have Inu at Wing to help defuse one of those high flying Kangaroos. Inglis and Folau will be dunking on those two wingers all night long.

I like your team di13. Matai is the man, with Matai, it's what you see is what you get. My favorite player.

Looks like no Pritchard for the World Cup. Kiwis are always unlucky, always having a key player injured all the time.

Tru dat di

in the warriors march to the semi's in 03, Webb sparked them many times from 1st or 2nd receiver, His hole running is awesome though and at fullback he's free to roam of the likes of Pritchard & Sonny Bill Millions.
he'd go well in either position.

hey mt25378
have you seen my 'paper' kiwi team?
ive put the second rate Brent Webb at stand off,i thought someone might have picked up on this, but no,no controversy at all?? quite strange really, but i reckon he'll go ok at 6,vinnie anderson and nigel vagana have been used at 6 before and i reckon this could be a position that'll suit webb, hes defensively strong, has played at 1st reciever for the warriors and leeds (at times),has genuine pace, and has a good tactical strong kick in his game? Also, with no pritchard available cause of pending 'shoulder' surgery,i'll have to go with eastwood or fraser anderson in his place or a bolter like fai or matulino?

I have to disagree with the Roberts selection shaolin...
Like you, i used to champion his cause because of his wonderful skills, but his defence is pathetic. With the bigger boys running straight, close to the line he either throws out a weak one armed 'touch' or does the 'slide away from the runner and be caught too late to make an effort' thing. It happens too often to be coincidence.
