There have been many influential players over the years.
If you look at polls held by Rugby League Weekly.
Mark Graham would be @ No 1 having been voted the best second Row / loose forward in the Winfield Cup days on more than one occassion. There are many Kiwis who have Captained their Club sides.Mark Graham North Sydney.Hugh McGahn Eastern Suburbs.Sam Stewert Newcaslte.Nathan Cayliss Parramatta.Dean Bell Warriors.Roy Asotasi Rabbits.Tawera Nikau has a Stand named after him in Melbourne. The list goes on
Possibly Most influential Kiwi in Austrailian Ruby League ?
Coach Graham Lowe (Queensland & Manly)
Who Knows as long as they all shine, long may it continue |

how about Dean Bell- Roosters for 2 seasons admittly it was that great a stint but he shined in England collecting the man of steal and heaps of winners medals.
Darrell Williams could have been a great if his Knees wernt made of glass.
Mark Graham - As tough as you get would have played more games for norths if his opponents didn't single him out for extra attention.
Sam Stewart - First Newcastle Nights Captain. |

john schuster was pretty influential for the knights?
what about willie talau when he played for the dogs,he was a strong/bustling type of player, him and halligan influenced them to the finals of 98',only to lose out to the champion broncs?!
what about dave solomona and jason cayless influence in helping the roosters pack in the early 2000's? theres been quite a few influential kiwi figures for their teams in the past and still to this day, perrett, kenny dowall etc
asotasi, luke for rabbits, nat cayless for parra
lima,blair,smith and kearney for storm,theres heaps!!? |

| the bloke who had a big influence on me unfortunately didn't play in Oz ( not that i'm aware of at least)was Shane Varley being as i started off as a halfback as well. i used to go to carlaw and watch him run around for Richmond with Fred Ah Koui who i thought had the smoothest passing game ever.I Know, that wasn't your question Di but i couldn't think of any. I spose Tawera at a push |

| Kiddy may well be up to f... all at the mo bro. I'm just talkin bout that tackle (aah yes, THAT tackle!), & was wondering where he's at?. Heard f.. all about him lately. As for McCracken, I'd be an idiot to think he was 'up there' as one of the most influential kiwis in NRL, just really enjoyed watching him play. I was playing under 20's back then, and his hard hitting, strong running style made him one of those 'aspire to be' fulla's. :~) |

| Just thinking back to the good old 'Winfield Cup' days. Most of the kiwi boys playing back then, were names that many of us remember today. Despite the obvious names eg., Ridgey, Halligan, Todd, Freeman etc.., one man who really stands out for me, is Jarrod McCracken. Agree with fialemaa, about Graham, Sorensens & Olsen. True pioneers & LEGENDS!. SBW is still young, & look at the influence he's had on the game already! |
