Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
Another selection oddity... why would you start Mannering, Lillyman, and Luck all together in the back/second row? All of them are one dimensional back rowers with good work rates but not much attacking abilities. Richard Brown or Ben Matulino needs to be one of the starting backrowers.
Good luck to Isaac John at no 6... the Roosters are too hot lately so hopefully should make a good debut game for him.

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
The 20-year-old is the seventh player over the last two seasons to earn first-grade selection after playing for the Vodafone Junior Warriors’ in the National Youth Competition.
He follows Sonny Fai, Russell Packer, Ben Matulino, Leeson Ah Mau, Daniel O’Regan and Kevin Locke.
The Tokoroa-born and raised John, who’ll become the club’s 154th NRL player, made 25 NYC appearances last year and has been a regular for the Auckland Vulcans in the New South Wales Cup this season. He’ll start at No 6 with Lance Hohaia reverting to an impact role off the interchange bench.
“Isaac has been working hard and doing everything asked of him,” said Vodafone Warriors coach Ivan Cleary.
“He showed the ability he has in the NYC last year and has been doing the same for the Vulcans.
“While we’ve used Lance at No 6 lately we have confidence in Isaac and we also know how dangerous Lance can be coming off the bench. It’s all about trying to get the right balance in our side and improving our work on attack.”
In other changes to the side that lost 14-18 to the Bulldogs, Jerome Ropati is recovered from a shoulder injury and returns in the centres while captain Steve Price is named to fill his regular spot after tomorrow night’s third State of Origin clash.
With Ropati back, Simon Mannering will start in the second row alongside Jacob Lillyman while Lewis Brown, who started in the back row last Sunday, is one of five players named on the bench. Prop Russell Packer, who started last weekend, is among the interchange quintet. Not included this week are utility Aaron Heremaia and second rower Ukuma Ta’ai.
John is the seventh player to make his first-grade debut for the Vodafone Warriors this year. The others have been Ah Mau, O’Regan, Locke, Ta’ai, Brown and Heremaia while Denan Kemp, Joel Moon, Jacob Lillyman and Jesse Royal played their first games for the club after moving to Auckland.

warriors looked lost at times, must congratulate the bulldogs for playing well with a below strength team, the effort was definitely their from the warriors, just lacking the killer instinct.

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
Our halves combo is no good, plenty of opportunities on the weekend, but Stacey isnt creating anything. I wasnt so sure about chucking Johnson in so soon but thanks to Cleary, he is the best option left. And since the season is pretty much gone, then why not. Let him play top grade for the last 8 rounds BUT that wont happen.... Cleary will not drop Jones because that would be him publicly admitting HE PHARKED UP

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
i was at the game on Sunday still supporting, but boy was it hard watching.
The team is so one dimensional, one up running all day, where r the offloads to our halves running through at pace, waiting all year for that. Where are the dummy runners, angled runs, alternate kick offs, short passes etc
Jones never takes on the line, so is easy to defend against.
Some really bad purchasing selling of players this year, we offload world cup winners & buy aussie also rans.
Lets not forget that injury's hampened our season but lets hope Cleary can learn to run some decent attacking plays!!!

Mate...he was last years news....

I think if there's not enough talent in the league in NZ (which i think there is alot of hidden talent) maybe they should turn to union..

i've been a warriors supporter since 1995!!! and yet no championship ring... we should start off with a new coach.. then pick up a good no.7!!!

i dont doubt the talent in the warriors but their needs to be changes..

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
Raiders proved what they're capable of when they beat melbourne, that team is a massive bogey side for the raiders, much like the warriors, raiders are a jekkyl and hyde team, don't know what you're gonna get week to week, but when they explode, they're a dangerous side,
I hate supporting a side that throws in the towel or plays with no heart or desire and passion, that pisses me off the most.

WHAT swap bronson... hey there is no need to swear!!!

haha we have had a tough season getting it to gel on the field. but the team has the nuts and bolts right. dropping any of the raiders would achieve nothing. they are a good team that will need to stay together.

thats why i was pissed at the jones/fien and the witt thing.. the warriors had a winning team. and decided to sc.rew it right over.

bosons

your a raiders fan, but I bet you wouldn't swap luck for bronson harrison, learoyd lahrs or trevor thurling now would you?

Alan tongue brings more dynamism and worlkload then what michael luck provides, even you know that

as for joel moon, what has he done besides kick the ball out on the full all season?

lmao.. yea what him and cleary do is fine by me i guess...

luck is one dimensional, but he is a forward.. i would take him for his work load anyday. locke is a star!! and i dont think moon played that bad?

but hey im not a warrior cheeleader, i just never thought jones should have been brought back. Fien for the love of god won a world cup...wtf?

bosons
you are dead right

they let go of fien, to save face over the "shyte publicity stunt" that is stacey jones

I disagree with michael luck, hes a medicore one dimensional loose forward if ever their was a thing,
I'd prefer michael cro.cker or greg eastwood over luck anyday, even bronson harrison makes michael luck look like a reserve grader, he must seriously suck cleary off big time.

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
-Instill the enterprising play that was once a warrior trademark
-Instill some "aggro" but disciplined forward play
-"The intimidation factor", the fear of playing the warriors
-Mt smart stadium has to become a fortress, not an easy 2 points for visiting teams
-Pride, the pride has gone from this team
-Cleary's persistence in trying for a mistake free game has proven fruitless as they're making more mistakes then ever before

..make me the f##kin coach, I'll sack all these b#stards.

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
i hate to say i told you so.. but hahaha jones is c.r.a.p

people held on to the dream and forgot the reason he was dumped in the first place. i hear KEVIN LOCKE is now going to be dropped for not making jones look as good as they want him to look.

people hated on fien.. but like i said, a team cant opperate with two halves,, and as the warriors go they dropped the wrong one to save face over the shyte publicity stunt that is stacey jones.

Luck is ok im not sure why jones thought he would know what to do on the 5th? i thought that was his job hahaha.

Please come back
-Brian mclennan -Steve kearney -Kevin campion -Ruben wiki
or how about aucklanders coaching in the fox memorial
-dean clark -richie blackmore
in some sort of coaching capacity!!
-bernie perenara -luke goodwin....anybody

the people with the 'know how' or league nous are out their
or think entirely outside the square and convince one of the best coaches out of retirement like Phil gould,
anything but the current regime who call themselves management,
I call it a circus of mediocreism.

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
Where's the pride gone, where's the self belief, where's the family spirit in the team, where's the brotherhood, where's the warrior flair of old gone??what has cleary done to this team, why the need to bring back stacey jones, he offers nothing now days, he's easy to read and has become a turnstile for attacking teams who concentrate on his defensive channel, he's now become a liability and a detriment to this team, the loss of ruben wiki and workhorses logan swann and wairangi koopu has also been damaging to this team, not only that, the early season loss of brent tate was damaging, but the reliance on stacey jones to be able to deliver something out of nothing, it just doesn't happen anymore, the only bright light has been lewis brown and kevin locke, sad warriors.

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
so now that the season is pretty much over, we have to start a petition for Johnson to be brought to the team. We simply can't get any worse.
I think what happened this year is that we simply do not have a strong attacking backrower. Last few years we had Lauaki and Fai who both are capable of damaging runs. From what I'd seen this year Brown had the potential to be that once he worked a lot more on the finer details of his game. He bumped of like 4 consecutive tacklers during the last game at one stage. Matulino is one good potential attacking power if he worked on his handling a bit better and not randomly offload. Maybe McKinnon should try to run off Matulino a bit more. When's the last time he have a break from an offload? It's the game he played best, and the forward pack right now is not strong enough to hold off the defenders and pop the ball for him to run onto.
Daz, don't forget about Tate. He was pretty good until that unlucky incident against the broncos.
And godamnit, we need better goal kickers. We could've lead by 6 at the late stage of the game and then just need to pop a field goal to seal it if the goal kicking is better. I still have no idea why they decide to drop the stallion for a make-shift standoff at the beginning of the season. It's safe to say that we got to the finals (or close to it) in the last few years due to Witt's goal kicking.
Or we can always blame the new jersey from Canterbury

I commend you for your support dazbolski

but their comes a time when the truth must be typed

these guys are spirit crushers, these guys are media hoggers, but big game time chokers, I've lost count of how many times I've witnessed warrior players come out
routinely saying things like
-theirs no cohesion
-some of us are switched on, but some of us ain't
-we're slowly building
-it takes time for joel moon to become a number 6
-michael luck was once 18th man for queensland, who gives a f##k about that, yes he can tackle, but that's all he can do, a 1 dimensional mediocre australian like cleary,
too many failure australians.

sack these guys
-kemp
-kirk
-moon
-jones
-henderson
-lilyman
-luck
-royal

give these guys a turn in nrl footy
-rusty bristowe
-siutonga likiliki
-shaun johnson
-elijah taylor
-isaac john
-dan o regan
-michael afioga
-ben henry
-alehana mara
-jerome kutia

Re:New Zealand Warriors 2009 Reply to this message
Thats the spirit Hops. All so true. Its just a shame that they wont do anything about it.

Johnson to 7 and why not bring back witt we cant do any worse.

That takes care of our half combinations then you just have to drop , Royal, moon, kemp. lillymans not to back he has good runs and doesnt drop the ball, he just needs to go looking for more work.

Someone needs to start a petition against cleary and the selectors if enough fans supported it head would have to roll.
