Re:what a send off Reply to this message
The first year with Deans in charge wasn't a great year. After that, it all came together nicely. Smith did a good job with the Crusaders, and apart from the opening stutter under Deans they've done well ever since.
Could Henry have had the same results if he'd stayed with the Blues instead of heading to Wales? Well, maybe. He certainly did a good job with Auckland in the NPC, and with the Blues when he was with them, but could he have sustained it? Perhaps, perhaps. An intriguing possibility.

Re:what a send off Reply to this message
deans took over from wayne smith in 2000 - they werent the bottom of the heap when he got them.... in 2001 crusaders were near the bottom...

henrys coached the blues to 3 finals - in the 3 years he was in charge:):) when he came back he somehow got the aucklanders back to the top first winning the 2002 npc then with the blues in 2003 super 12, when henry left the franchise it again when downwards...

if henry had stayed at the blues post 1998 - who knows what he could have won... hes never missed a playoff in npc/super12/international ...

pretty good i think...

Re:what a send off Reply to this message
Henrys record is awesome, but he only won two super titles and 1 as technical adviser in 03' with sloane,of course grahams record with the abs would be awesome with carter and mccaw there,Hansen won an npc title, smith coached the saders to two super titles, but that all pales in comparison to robbies achievements,he took the crusaders from the bottom of the heap to one of the most dominating rugby teams of the modern era, deans may not have the naturally talented kiwis in aus,but he'll definitely find some players and work with them over four years, its a scary propositon what he could do. Quade Cooper,Luke Burgess,David Pokock,Berrick Barnes,Ryan Cross, hes definitely got some talent to work with.

Re:what a send off Reply to this message
theres still people out there that say that robbie did get his chance and that he has coached the ab's from 2001 - 2003 as an assistant to mitch,so for that short time he and mitch were at the helm, what was it? a year and a bit? they still made a rwc semi final in that short amount of time! i dont know why smith was given another chance and yet he lost confidence in his own coaching abilities, thats why mitch and deans were given the job i thought?

And Robbie is fresh. He isn't like that stale piece of piss we have for a coach.

Re:what a send off Reply to this message
if he can build a dynasty to what the crusaders have become,id hate to think what he could do with the aussies given hes got 4 years to build them up before the next world cup,im a chiefs and blues fan,but even im not silly enough to realise what a good coach he is,his success speaks for itself, only grahams record comes close, watching robbies pro crusader teams,is like watching the early 90's auckland team that henry coached, similar in terms of 'Star' power (ab's),'Dominanace' and championships.

Re:what a send off Reply to this message
yeah nah im quite angry that robbies going to aus,it is a big loss,i still believe thet henry had his chance,so did wayne smith,i'll back henry now, cause hes the coach, but how can you let go of a coach of deans calibre?,just utter stupidity if you ask me!,in hindsight, they couldve given smith and hansen back to the saders and henry back to the blues so robbie couldve coached the ab's (Just kidding).
