<<Springboks no1 in world rankings>>
Third now, actually.
1 NEW ZEALAND 91.21
2 AUSTRALIA 87.75
3 SOUTH AFRICA 86.51
Might get back # 2 spot if they do the business in Jo'burg tonight. |

Got another one:
RICHARD BRANSON HAS OFFERED TO SPONSOR THE SPRINGBOKS FOR $5 000 000,00 PER GAME. THE OFFER WAS REFUSED BY S.A RUGBY UNION. THEY SAY THEY CANNOT WEAR "VIRGIN" ON THEIR T-SHIRTS WHEN THEY ARE GETTING F#%KED EVERY WEEK! |

"Do Portugal and Romania have a realistic chance of winning the RWC? I think not."
If they win their pool matches and QF's and SF's and advance to the final, they can win it like any other team. If it is a question of them not having the talent and smarts to do so, then the world cup format doesn't really matter, does it?
South Africa has come short at the cricket world cup on several occasions (once due to a very stupid mistake by the captain on home soil in 2003). They went into the last WC with a no.1 world ranking and failed again. They failed because they were not good and tactically smart enough to win the WC. Period. By failng to beat their QF opponents they were not good enough to proceed and we as fans accepted that. Should we also turn around and say Australia are not "full" world champs because they didn't play us in the WC? That's simply sour grapes if you ask me. |

fwbronner. You have missed my point completely. After previously acknowledging that SA are the RWC champs until 2011, I was pointing out flaws in the tournament setup.
Do Portugal and Romania have a realistic chance of winning the RWC? I think not.
If their chances are zero then why are they there?
The answer is about marketing.
Say what you like, but runaway wins against meagre opposition is no buildup for a knockout match against France. Look at the Boks after their Argie win. |

"How can a team adjust to a knockout match against France after playing Portugal and Italy ?"
Shouldn't be difficult considering "The AB's and their supporters know this to be the absolute truth! We are No1 in the world! no question about that!" ( isiqualokiwi)

"SA rugby has woken up to the fact that its traditional crude playing the man tactics and physical intimidation will not cut it in the modern game"
Any idea why Brad Thorn was the first player to be suspended in the Tri Nations?
What happened in Cardiff was exactly the same as what happened in Cape Town: 2 supremely fit and physical teams walked onto the field and the team with the right attitude and and superior commitment walked away with the spoils.
See if you can fit the concept of "sportmanship" and "integrity in defeat" and "paying tribute to your opponents in their victory" into your "jest" |

And France had lost a pool game so were really smarting.
All this talk about pools of death is wrong. I think it helps to have at least one tough pool game. |

Before the world cup started I thought it was the worst possable run of games New Zealand could have hoped for. In the end a run of one sided pointless games and then a knockout game agains the Hosts and one of the favorites for the cup was what eventuated.
On the other hand south africa had an almost dream run through. The biggest task they has was England in the final, france were never going to back up after the AB game. They gave it everything against the AB's hand had nothing left for the Semi.
I think the biggest SA had was against Fiji in the pool? |

amabokke4. Another saffa who pops up on our boards, has a dig at us and the ABs then disappears for good, I suspect. Are the SA message boards not interesting enough?
One point you made was the lack of tough pool matches for NZ in 2007. Without realising it you have highlighted another limitation of this 4 yearly competition. How can a team adjust to a knockout match against France after playing Portugal and Italy ?
This topic has been thrashed to death previously and there have been some good suggestions for making the format a fairer indication of the true World Champ. One suggestion was playing 3 tests against each opponent in the finals. This would negate the one-off good or bad performance. |

jdyhrberg70.. thanks for providing clarity for the benefit of bokke4 who clearly does not understand what I was saying.
I could not have said it better than you just did.
Bokke4...SA is RWC champs... but AB are now ranked No 1 in the world... without RWC trophy and even though we did not face SA in 1987 as u correctly pointed out we still maintained No 1 ranking after that. The difference is that SA did not/cannot do the same with the RWC status in hand.
The mark of a champion is to remain No 1 for as long as possible..is it not? SA lost it immediatley after facing the AB and then again after facing the Wallabies and continue to do so. This is unfortunate but remains the facts! |
