Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
To me crowd sizes are indicative of one thing, people cant afford to go to every game, I know if I didnt have a season ticket I would have struggled to go to Waikato's 2 home games so far. Glad to see Waikato finally putting it together against Auckland. Something is obviously going wrong at administration level, especially when you have such a contrast between the rich unions and unions like Tasman having to be given $350,000 to finish out the season. But maybe Tasman dug its own grave by working with Canterbury to blatantly flaunt the transfer rules in order to sign All Blacks like Rico Gear for the Crusaders, who maybe they couldnt afford to pay in their salary cap?

True, it seems to be a country wide problem everywhere, but my point was that one game is no indication of a support base if they were there every game it would be a different story

"Maybe if those 14,000 people had regularly gone to support their team before the decision had been made, maybe the decision would have been different."

Or if Northland didn't play turd Rugby over all these years...

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
its hard to fathom the nzrfu logic they say that the promotion of heartland rugby is there main goal yet they are doing there best too stuff it up half the problem is the outrageous cost they put on the fans to watch the games, its cheaper to watch sky , why dont they put a salary cap on all union that is fair and even too all unions look at waikato big name players super 14 franchaise and they cant even win a game and there numbers at games are less than some of the supposed minor unions . no wonder the rugby public have no faith in steve tew and his over paid idiots

Mooloo,i tend to agree with you about the Taniwha crowds now starting to show up,when their team are staring down the barrell, but i must also mention,in the last few years of air NZ cup, some of the crowds i've seen at rugby park in Hamilton have not always been that flash,in fact for city of hamilton's size..Piss poor..!.and for a team sprinkled with super 14 players, the 2008 model looks very average.

Maybe if those 14,000 people had regularly gone to support their team before the decision had been made, maybe the decision would have been different. I feel for Northland but to other people who have said Waikato needs the chop after current results, dont forget that Counties and Taranaki are currently behind a rebuilding Waikato team on the table, and Counties are hugely behind in the points differential. If Marlborough really wants out of Tasman, the NZRFU really had no choice but to relegate them.

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
farken hell, I see there was over 14000 people at the northland game last night!!. Probably gonna be between 6000 & 10000 at the Hawkes bay v Tasman game this afternoon in Blenheim. How can the nzrfu get rid of these 2 teams?? At least they draw decent sized crowds for the home games. Another thing, how much money was spent upgrading both Nelson & Blenheims rugby parks, to accommodate the crowds, in anticipation of the ANZC, & who had to foot the bill for that?. What a waste of money!!. They won't draw in the big crowds when they're playing teams like Buller!! (no disrespect to Buller). nzrfu are a bunch of brainless, european car driving, latte drinking, money hungry, smoked salmon salad eatin, wine slurpin..............W4NK ERS!. Save the Makos & Taniwhas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
"Ian Jones,Sid Going,Joe Morgan,Norm Berryman,Norm Maxwell,David Holwell and Justin Collins" I'll just point out that while those players were great (except maybe overrated Holwell) that's not that many compared to other 1st division provinces nor considering the size and population base of the Northland province.
Bit surprised you didn't mention Warren Johnstone, I hear he made a big impact at Nelson bays.

And it's got nothing to do with how I might feel about the winterlees North overall.

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
It astounds me that the NZ Rugby Union can get it so wrong. They along with Henry managed to stuff up the last World Cup Campaign and then said they were surprised at the backlash by the NZ public. Do they just read there own PR. Thank god he didnt but where would we have gone if Aussie and Deans had won the game in Auckland. I think there is a certain amount of arrogance at the highest level and one way to be sure of getting off side with the NZ supporters is for them to stick it to grass roots rugby. It sort of makes certain of the fact that rugby at the highest level will die in those regions. If they wanted to make it fair then they should have said that the two bottom teams dropped but I am not sure I like that either if that was to be a permanent option. Go Northland and Tasman.

daniel eyre,Your not a Waikato supporter by any chance..?.i would be interested in what team you support, and what your feelings would be if your team was sawn off at the knee's,Got tremendous respect for the taniwha, have given New Zealand rugby plenty of great servants,eg Ian Jones,Sid Going,Joe Morgan,Norm Berryman,Norm Maxwell,David Holwell and Justin Collins to name a few..Besides if you were'nt bothered, what was the point in even making a comment..If given the choice to live out my life in Auckland or in the Beautiful far North,it's a no brainer really..!

LOL, don't you mean SAVE Northland rugby?

Sorry mate, nothing personal but I'm not bothered either way about whether Northland or this 'Tasman' union get axed from professional Rugby. To tell you the truth I've got a bit sick of Northlanders I've encountered over the years talking up their province and not just in their Rugby...

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
I find all this hard to fathom. So far this year, both Northland and Tasman have accounted for some really high profile teams (I see tasman knocked over Taranaki convincingly today!!) It would have been much fairer to relegate the two bottom teams at the end of this year's competition. Perhaps the looming prospect that Waikato and Auckland would be relegate would be too much to handle. On current form it would be a distinct possibility.....

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
i cant believe northland are getting the cut! i would have cut counties-manukau. half there team are loaned or from auckland and there is already 3 teams in the auckland region (my very own harbour r farking sh!t this year i know.. too much politics in harbour rugby im afraid and they have better players in the region than what they are showing on the field) and i believe northland offer more to NZ rugby than counties-manukau, i really feel for northland and its future and current stars

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
i think attacking Auckland is pointless it is the NZRU making the decision not Auckland. Auckland Rugby would not want to loose the Northland team as i makes there super 14 Catchment smaller so nothing in it for the Aucklanders. I think the problem is the NZRU is not answerable to anybody.

I think old dingo may have hit his first speed bump and regardless od what anyone says if he does not get some silver ware the aussies will turn on him.

Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
Dear Northland Taniwhas

(rest of letter)

I have been thinking about how I could help you out of a jam. I know you guys are partnered with Auckland and like all decent kiwis are really hating it. We all know you can not trust those selfish up themselves turkeys as they take your best players and give you their rubbish in return. It is the reason why you are where you are now. Must have something to do with that loaned Auckland first five kicking the winning goal for you guys against them a few years back. But it aint your fault. It is just another thing to blame the NZRU for. Well anyway I thought a few Maori boys from your team might harden up the team I am running over here. So how would you guys like to partner up with my team and dump Auckland. I promise to treat you well unlike Auckland and give your players equal opportunity and return them to you when you need them. Also I can lend you a few of my good ones from my team too for your season. Who knows Dingo may even want a few of your guys in his team as well. I have had a yarn with the big boss over here Possum Head and he is all for it too. Possum Head has got some vision and has got it all over the NZRU. He reckons if anyone can he is the man to trace the bloodlines back and find some kangaroo in the mix. Anyway what have you guys got to lose. When guys like Norm, Glenn, Justin and David can not get a fair go for higher honours , along with the NZRU not giving you a fair share of the dosh and then telling you to take a hike, you know you are just not wanted.

Dear Northland Taniwhas

G’day from the lucky country. Sorry to hear about the stuffing that you guys got from the NZRU. Well you guys ain’t the first to be shafted by that bunch of clowns. With me in my last job I righted the ship, created a few records against our toughest opponents and got back a favourite piece of silverware that we hadn’t seen for 5 years. But it wasn’t enough and when I couldn’t do what no man has done for 20 years in one year I got the boot. Me personally I think it was because I wasn’t from Auckland, because the rooster doing my job now failed over 4 years with a $50m budget do to the same task but he kept his. You see he was from Auckland. Anyway my advice is when it turns to muck all good honest New Zealanders should turn to Australia. A good mate of mine, who now goes under the name of Dingo, has just arrived over here too and he’s loving it. His crime was he wasn’t from Auckland either because other than that he was definitely the best thing going in New Zealand.

Anyway I have been thinking about how I could help you out of a jam. I know you guys are partnered with Auckland and like all decent kiwis are really hating it. Re:Safe Northland Rugby Reply to this message
The hypocrisy of the NZRFU is unbelievable, these are the same clowns who spent over 50 million dollars on a failed world cup bid, then reappointed the same coach, not to mention their flagging financial fortunes, one can trace back to 1996 when they had an opportunity to come up with an action plan regarding the air nz cup moving forward, that was 12 years ago,and they still have not found a solution,In the early seventies,Northland was the first NZ provincial team to play Australian state teams on a regular basis to help develop Australian rugby,a phone call to the number 1 rugby administrator in the world about now, would make some NZRFU officials take notice..Mind you, given their intelligence, maybe not.!

Surely the wise men in wellington running the game can see thaat the provinces are the ones embracing the air new zealand cup ... while once again those just over the harbour bridge once again believe through their population base that they are untouchable .... Surely the die hard few can either make it up to Northland or may be just cross the bridge ...
