the British Lions will do well in south africa - theyve learnt their lesson from their opening game with the royal xv.
in the tests though it will be difficult, because the rules will be different esp for the boks team. but i am predicting a bok series win based on the home ground advantage.
yes the British Lions did win in 1997 against the boks when the boks were world cup holders - but lets not forget that in 1997 the all blacks also smashed the boks and the wallabies too had a win over them.
in 2005 british lions also lost to the nz maori - even brian odriscoll played in that game.
lions were a disgrace in 2005 - this year though i think theyll have that at the back of their minds....good luck though....
2009 - it is going to be an exciting year of international footy!!!!!!! cant wait!!
go you mighty all blacks:):):):):):):) |

krazykiwi, Be very careful, when you say something with some understanding you are deemed to be very peculiar almost from another planet.
You're absolutely right of course the bigger picture is the springbok, in 2005 the lions won every midweek game but lost the tests,
As I have already stated this is not the best lions side, also the lions beat the Springbuk at the last visit 1997, when they were riding high after winning the WC.
This time they will make no mistakes, they have prepared and will do their utmost, not just to defeat us, but to drive us into the ground.
I think you might be pleasantly surprised at the effort of the lions, but the out come would be a surprise to every one here if we were to beat them.

Renee, you should'nt base your assumptions on what Dirty sez, the Golden lions are the very side that beat your crusaders or was that the cheaters?? oh well what do I know?? . ;0)))))))))) they are indeed a super 14 side that there were 5-6 of the first team out through injury does/should not have any baring.
So I'm afraid it is you who are wrong.
Another point, not necessarily with you Renee, But why is it that if anyone considers differing from the status quo, he is attacked for allegedly not knowing the finer points.
As I've always maintained here, I only give my opinion. Opinion is not fact, just a personal view.
If you or anyone thinks I am wrong by all means challenge me and put your opinion across and debate it, thats what these boards are for.

Yep, and a lowly ranked Currie Cup side at that, I think you need to do your home work 1st before spouting off Andy. It would be like playing Bay of Plenty or Southland in NZ without the few S14 players those teams have. If the finest from the NH weren't able to demolish a 3rd or 4th rate provincial team there would be something seriously wrong.
Saw the extended highlights of that game. While the Lions scored plenty of points they looked cumbersome and slow. The SA team were absolutely woeful which made the Lions look alot better than they actually were. In the backs everthing was done at half pace, all their moves were done behind the advantage line. If they play like that against the Boks they won't even get on the score board let alone win a game.
Sorry I'm wrong, if the Lions get in the Boks half they will no doubt resort to going up in increments of 3. |

That third rate opposition RC, is good enough to make the S14, so why would you surmise that you could make a northern Hem side better than they already are, you cant seem to do it to the golden lions ;))
You're right of course they weren't the best of opposition, but how many NZ S14 sides put 74 on them, those sides that you have said would beat our international sides,
Look forget about 2005 that was then this is now. Are'nt you always saying look to the future the past has gone???
You must try to understand RC the lions of 2005 were Sir clives children half of them too old the other half injured. Thos that were'nt you speartackled to the floor putting them out of the competition.
This is no where near a great lions side, but I think they might earn some respect.
After all we are playing the land of the S14 and world champions the best club side and international side in the world.

Man, did the Lions suck in the first match but this one was a better result (against a third rate opposition.)
I thought the Lions might get one but I'll change that to a three nil smashing.
Looks like your northern recruitment drive of NZ players isn't making your 'superstars' any better andy.
Might have to put a northern team into the new Super 15 in 2011 and we'll teach your flabby, unskilled rabble how the game is played. |

watched the royal 15 take on the lions this mornin - nice performance and wuda had them if they hada kept it together for the last 10min. The lions looked horrible most of the game bumbling the ball everywhere, but pulled it together for the last 10 to take the game thanks to the spirited lee byrnes.
Riki Flutey looks set to make a big impact in the tour, gud luk to him.
Saffaz to win 3 nil... unless they get c*o*c*k y on the last one.
Cant wait till the lions are bak in nz... does that mean they arent back till 2017! wtf?? |

Di!! Nice to hear from you my old co ck le sucking mucker.
2005 was a complete shambles Di, Clive Woodward was so far up his own airse after winning the WC (2003) he thought he could walk on water, I'm not making any excuses here Di but I would have coached the lions with more success.
The Lions of 97 was a fair side with big name players, we don't have them now, The lions that are in Africa now are at best average.
after watching the Bulls and Chiefs Yesterday I have serious concerns that we wont just get beat, but humiliated and that would be no good for the game in general not just Us,
The S/Africans are very good in preparing for something their success in the S14 shows that they will be ready for the lions.
First game yesterday against what is reputed to be the weakest side we play was dire, we were losing 18-3 at one point and it did look a little ominous, the score in the end was a little flattering 37-25.
That we will get better is a certainty, some players yesterday had'nt played for 4-5 weeks and had'nt played together before.
As I've said in other posts the breakdown is key, how you attack and defend it is crucial to a teams success, I live in hope they were holding something back.
Di, your team is the chiefs I believe, they played well to get there and I don't think they played badly on the day I just think the bulls would have beaten any side, that day.
Keep your chin up Di there will be other days.
Andy. |

Make sure you write to the dreary old boys club who control the game up there and demand that the Lions only tour NZ from 2013 onwards. |
