Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
U could be talking about the AB V Frace match there.
No-one expected France to trouble the Black and there is a hell of a lot of public pressure on the All Blacks to play well.
The All Blacks are the ones's with the pressure and if they don't start well it could dent their confidence and playing style.
However the AB's wern't that far behind on the scoreline last week and still could have won the game at the end even after being behind 17-3,so I expect(if they start well)All Blacks should hit back, but geez it could go either way.
can't wait

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
Hey andy,

I've been reading some of your posts over the last few weeks and find it refreshing to read your perspective.

This is going to be an awesome match-up. The Lions will now be going into this game with belief in themselves. To put it bluntly, they really don't have anything to lose and this might just be their trump card.

Having lived in Sth Africa (although a while ago), I can only imagine the pressure building with the expectation of the nation on the 'Boks.

Before this tour kicked off, the Lions were on a hiding to nothing - no one was giving them a chance! They now go into the first Test unbeaten. And no matter how much flak you received on this messageboard with the Golden Lions, Sharks etc not being the 'real deal', believe me, South Africans WOULD have expected ONE of their top provincial teams to have won a game so far..... so good on the Lions so far!

I'm still backing the 'Boks to step up to the plate in this Test, but fully expect the home nations to give them a run for their money.

As long as it's a fair contest - "Go 'Boks...." and "go the ABs" too!

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
Just read an article on xtra rugby which highlights the Lions best chance of winning a test against the Boks. They have just finished playing 6 warm up games but the Boks haven't played since the S14 or together as a team since November.

For that reason the Boks might get a suprise from The Lions. The other problem for the Boks is the fact they have the village idiot preparing them, if it was jake White and i was a bOk supporter I would feel a little more confidant, but with the idiot, ummm not so confidant.

“No one really knows how the Lions will go. We have watched them through six warm-up games, often defending really well, often playing good rugby – but never having the power or the armoury to blow away even rather limited provincial teams” ... eggggsactly ...

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
The 2009 Lions are clearly rubbish andy.
Get ready for three massive hidings that will shoot a million holes in your 'northern hemisphere club rugby makes great players' theory.
(Not that it will change your mind though.)
Better lobby to get one of your flaccid teams in the new Super 15 comp- your boys may get a few clues then.

"They going to hopefully make a movie in NZ one day. A movie where Suzie is the main actress, the flat back line, the great rotation policy, forward passes and Wayne Barnes is the enemy. :)"

I hear Dan Brown is already working on the novel...

Lions played again Tuesday evening had a right old going over, the SA side just wanted to injure as many lions as they could,
Lions won 20-8 but not a good game, or one you can asses.
Saturday is the first test side (picked Tomorrow)am looking forward to the game I hope we surprise a few people.

Lions against Western province 26-23 close but a win is a win, about 4 possible test players today so not a very strong lions side but we pinched it at the end, next game Tuesday then the test side will be picked.
Will post on the test side.
Sorry about your lose today, I haven't seen the game yet so cant comment,

Andy

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
British and Irish Lions assistant coach Warren Gatland is very pleased with progress so far on tour. He said there could be no complaints after four wins out of four in the pre-Test practice matches. “I think the team is gelling nicely and the group is starting to work well together. I've been pleased with the training and feel we're making good progress.” Gatland said that man of the match from Wednesday's win over the Sharks, scrumhalf Mike Phillips, could get even better and No. 8 Jamie Heaslip had had an immense impact thus far on tour.

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
Peter de Villiers is a idiot!

South Africa has so much talent at the moment. Here we go again! He is already talking about playing people out of position. Putting Danie Roussow at 7 and JP Pieterson at full back.

Why?

There are like 10 other real loose forwards and full backs to choose from in the country. He is retarded!

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
I just watched the replay of the Lions vs Sharks game, (i dont have rugby channel!) and the Lions arnt looking to bad they easily accounted for the Sharks who had afew super 14 players, Kockott,Terblanche ect.Lets put it this way if the Boks spank this Lions team i think we should be worried about the Trinations this year as this Lions outfit dont look as bad as in the past.

While the Safricans have that idiot at the helm, they'll never get the results they should.
They will spank the Lions but it looks like motherless last yet again in the Tri.

"There is no coach in the world who can make players, it is players who make the coach. I will be there to give the players direction, but if we lose we lose. We will never prepare to lose, but we do not have control over winning and losing."

Peter de Villiers, Springbok head coach. (Whatever happens it's not my fault!)

Re:The lions in Africa Reply to this message
Yeah, that would right from watching them the last few years. I think the Springboks have some of the biggest game breakers in their team at the moment. Habana, De Villiers, 2 X Steyns ..... list goes on.

The three test matches should be some exciting rugby to watch. The Lions defense have not look to good against some of the average provincial sides.

“I met a couple of South Africans in the hotel lobby the other day and they asked me how I was involved with the Lions. When I told them I was the defence coach they just said, ‘best of luck mate’.”
