it's a good idea, all unions should be happy to have it. Everyone has a chance to play first div if they are good enough.

And if teams want to stay in the top flight, all they have to do is win a few games to show they are worthy.

There should be a promotion/relecation game though

"whos getting religated?...did i hear tew say that the abs have got to front for their npc teams from now on? i hope so"

I've heard that the Air New Zealand cup will use the old NPC format of relegation and promotion.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
I think the coaching staff have to take some of the blame.
Where was the game plan for the Italians.
There was no build up, just running around expecting the Iti's to make mistakes.
Where was the kicking game, kicking for the corners and getting some field position, then attack.
When Latimer was interviewed last week he talked about always having his note book and lap top and studying the way they needed to play.Huh !
So the game plan must'a been run sideways,if in trouble transfer that to yhe guy next to you and run the ball inside your own 22 and never get field position to initiate an attack

crutabs; You hit the problem in the head; not enough rugby. A sports 'experet' on the radio earlier this week said that the problem with todays rugby players is they do far too much 'body building' training and not enough actual rugby. What is happening is the players are building up so much muscle mass, doing non rugby related exercises, their bone structures are failing to support it over an 80 minute period of intense activity.
Having said that the coaching team cannot be blamed for players spilling the ball all the time, the useless tactical kicking, the soft approach to breakdowns, dicipline; thats up to the player on the field. The coaches can only go so far then it is up to the player. As they say; You can lead a player on to the field but you can't force him to put his body on the line. Time ours did and the public stopped blaming Henry all the time.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
doom and gloom after 3 games? you really think so?i dnt know about you guys but The AllBlacks are the most resilliant team in world rugby ,we are not scotland or wales,we are New Zealand. You fellas are writing off the team like other people did before last years tri-nations.
If Mcaw ,Ali,Kahui,D.C,Rodney,Con rad and Sivivatu were playing lastnite and we played poorly like that then it would be doom and certainly gloom but these top class players will join the team hopefully before they play The Boks. When the Boks took half the team off last week against the Lions in the first test ,they nearly lost and Aussie aint all that. They could only score one try on a dry track against a beaten up French side without chabal and a coupkle of other key players.
We will hold our own in the tri-nations i have complete faith

"Toeava made a few mistakes but I thought he played better than most last night. Nonu kept running across field & got picked off easily behind the adv. line, of course he was getting bad ball, but a REAL 2nd5 has more options at his disposal than nonu does - hes still a centre, toeava at 12 for 3N, nonu at 13"

I agree. But I'm not sure if many people will be comfortable with Nonu marking Mortlock.

I just can't wait for the NPC/ANZC to start. Then people like you will have something real to whinge about when your team gets relegated.

This whole anti-henry is getting old. We get that Henry is a bad coach.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
I made a few comments last week, all doom and gloom.. ie "Headmaster Henry and the other two idiots would continue to drag NZ rugby down the slippery slope to disaster, and THIRD place in Tri nations. McAlister will continue to play poorly like everyone, except Smith and Henry, knew he would, sadly, he`s simply ,not up to the level required.... ....Toeava would continue to drop the ball..Mealamu and Joe Roks would show everyone, again why, they should retire.
Not all doom and gloom,Issac Ross,is a real ALL BLack.
And we have Demalmanche I guess 3 minutes of him on the paddock is better than 77 minutes of Mealamu.

I think some of you have forgotten Toeava's man of the match performance in Hong Kong. He happend to playing at fullback during that match.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
yes toeava is a very good NPC and super 14 player, where he is given more space and defences aren't as sharp, just like donald. looks good in chiefs jersey but very average in All Blacks one. actually same can be said of quite a few performances from the AB's last night

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
Last night Pinetree and Buck wouldn't have looked out of place in the AB's. Now that we've seen the golden oldies pace lets see the real McCaw.
As for who stays, who goes; if we knew who was definately coming back from injury it would be easy. Right now; I would drop Toeava and move Luke to #12. Toeava is an Air New Zealand player who just hasn't got it to play in the top game.

Let's not forget that there are All Blacks who are most likely to return after the pacific nations cup. Eaton, Gear, Tuitivake and I get a feeling that Laukai is going to make a return. But I suppose desperate times call for desperate measures.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
I think Toeava is much better at 12 or 15

at 15 he gets mroe space and at 12 in the super14 he really seemed to take advantage of being close to the ruck and was able to scream through caps in that area almost every time there was cast ball.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
in saying that I personally would drop Latimer and Thompson from the squad to bring in Rod & McCaw

hard on latimer, he did a lot in that 2nd french test to get the win that night. And as a waikato man I'd hate to drop him but I just think witelock is the future for that spot.

I think the chifs back 3 would be my pick now, Masanga did some good things on attack and defence, and he will really feel at home with Mils and Sivi, I cant think of a better way to introduce him to test rugby.

10 - 13 is a real worry and IMO the main problem with the AB's right now. Smiths hammy is going to be an issue for the whole tri nations. Right now Kahui is seriously missed I cant help but feel he would have been able to make a world of difference out there.

IMO the best thing to do to fix the problem would be to play Mils at centre and Toeava at 15 but even I would resist doing that till an absolute last resort.

I dont know if bringing elison in is the answer?

who knows, I was really unimpressed with that game the all blacks are almost back to square one...

on a +ve note, Ross, Thorn, Kaino and Mils have been awesome and Woody and Afoa seem to be getting better.

And McCaw will be a big boost.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
Toeava will be included in the Tri-nations sqaud. The positives outweight his negatives. Setting up Ross for that try was more important than dropping the ball. Although it would have been interesting to see Toeava at 12 with Mac at 10 but it's too late for that. But for fullback would have to be the best position for Ice.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
Toeava should go really. If you want fullback and wing cover there is cory Jane who in my opinion outshone Toeava in this years super 14 to be 2nd choice fullback. in terms of centre cover we are very short because of injuries to smith and kahui. But Mils is a very good centre if it came down to it.
As for McAlister, his goalkicking was spot on his running game not so much but he is far better than Donald and needs to stay at 10 till DC is back. I think it was just a case of trying to do to much in his first start.
other players that haven't impressed me in first test series are Neemia Tialata, and Jimmy Cowan, don't get me wrong they are good players but just on form i wouldn't have them in tri nations squad.

Re:who stays ,who goes? Reply to this message
I wasn't impressed with nonu last night

he seemed to either pass or run, what he needs to do more is draw the defence and then pass. And he missed taking advantage of a couple of good overlaps on the right by trying to do it all himself.

Macalsiter Did more as a running back than nonu.

But we are getting to the point we have too much invested in him to drop him. I just hope his form improves.

I'm also more disapointed now about Messam being dropped, he could have gained some good experience over those two tests. And now the chance of him making the 3n squad is slim.

Sure messam made a couple mistakes but he also showed he can transfer some of his brillaiance to test level. And his error rate would only improve with experience.

Leonard looked good to me, his passing seemed good. That pass of macalisters that went into no mans land in the first half. leonards pass to him was sublime in that movement. Such a shame mac missed out on taking advantage of such a good fast ball.
