Re:NZ Look on the bright side Reply to this message
Already there is speculation that De Villiers will name Luke Watson as captain of the Springboks. Watson was at the centre of controversy last year when White was told to include the 23-year-old white player on the ground that he was an “honorary black”. Watson’s father, Dan “Cheeky” Watson, turned down the chance of a Springbok cap in the 1970s — when sport was racially segregated — to play instead for a black township team called Kwaru, outside Port Elizabeth. White insisted that Watson was not good enough for the national team but eventually agreed to select him for a friendly match against Samoa.

Last night radio stations and websites were swamped with comments about the De Villiers appointment. Among the comments were “Saru has shot rugby in the head” and “We will never be a force in world rugby again”.

De Villiers said that he was “ecstatic” with his appointment. “The word transformation is a bit of a swear word with me,” he said. “I’m more concerned about a change of attitude than a change of colour.”

Refreshign to backtrack and revisit some of those headlines now...still brings a chuckle. His gaffs could be considered as PDV being a little toohonets and forthcoming with his opinion. It's a mine-field out there... Now I wonder when the Springboks will truly stop being a world power on Rugby...the sheer weight of numbers in that country supprters, financially and on their rosters surely means it will be a long and painfully drawn out process...hahahaha. Not gonna happen.LMFAO

Worst Springbok coach EVER.
An idiot chosen on what he is rather than what he's done.

Jake White use to say some pretty stupid things but he's nothing compared to PDV thats for sure. For the life of me, I cannot understand some of PDV's selections or comments but hey, thats cool. From what I hear most of South Africa dis-like him so let's watch him blunder around some more.

PDV is a golly wog muppet, his brain explosion against the Lions in the first test could of cost him that game especially when he called half his forward pack of at halftime.Im glad hes coaching the yaapies lets see how arrogant he is when he plays the ABs and Oz.
How much control does he really have over the team ,or his muppet like speeches to the public is all show? His asistance has more influence over the team than he does

DeVilliers is an absolute muppet. Hope he stays as coach, as we have more chance of beating them with him in charge.

At least we dont have De Villiers as our coach

I dont mean to offend anyone, I'm not racist, not an attack on SA rugby at all.

But I think that guy is a total plonker. his reaction to the Burger Ban is another clear example of that.

I know a lot of people dont like henry, but he is very honest. so much so he talks about a lot of things you dont expect an all black head coach to talk about.

But at the same time he also knows when to shut the hell up and not make a d1ck of himself.
