Crutabs, nice starting team!
The only one I really disagree with is Masaga on the wing. To be honest, I'd be more comfortable with Gear there. But I think Henry and co will go with a Sivi/Rocks combo.
I'm a little bit iffy on Leonard as well. I think from what I've seen I'd start Cowan and Leonard on the bench.
That's just me
Otherwise, I completely agree! |

Lauaki?
FFS!
haha, agreed, move on, next please.
Also agree with much of what you posted lark, I think bar 2 or 3 the squad really picks itself. Agreed with Vito to Lark, (as I have been saying for 2 seasons now) I would be looking at Vito before Luauki, Vito is the future, Luauki has had his chance.
Our strongest team will easily compete with the Saffa's and Aus. Its pretty much the same group of guys from last year. The problem we will have will be match fitness. Can they get up to speed before its to late? |

guess we will find out tomorrow, I think it's going to be a big boost to have McCaw, Sivi, Rod, hore & Wulf back
I also think Afoa, Woody & Kaino are still on the improve after injuries. Should be in better shape come kickoff
Then the biggest question marks are
donald form & injury
nonu form
smith form & injury
If those guys can pull it together then we will have a good change to keep the silverware. |

going to be hard to find room in the squad for lauaki
Kaino
Rodney
McCaw
Read
Are sure to keep their spots
Either witelock or latimer will have a spot
Lauaki
Messam (very hard done by so far)
thompson (not sure what state he is in)
I personaly would go for
McCaw
Kaino
Rodney
their backup trio
Whitelock
Read
Messam
I've always been for Lauaki but I'm not sure anymore, if you are going to play him you need to start him. I'm not sure if he can get his head around being a bench player. And he gets better and fitter the more rugby he gets put him on the bench and he will stagnate.
I think I've got to the point i'd select Vito before Lauaki.
I think this would be my squad
Prop: Woody, Afoa, Tialata, krockett
Hooker: Hore, Mealamu; Aled
Lock: Thorn, Ross, Evans, Clarke
Loose: McCaw, Rodney, Kaino, Read, Messam, Whitelock
9: Leonard, Weepu, Cowan
10: Donald, McAlinster
midfield: Nonu, Toeava, smith
Wings: Sivivatu, Wulf, Masanga
Fullback: Mils, Jane
Run on side, question marks over smiths fittness
1 woody
2 hore
3 afoa
4 thorn
5 Ross
6 kaino
7 McCaw
8 Rodney
9 Leonard
10 Donald
11 Sivivatu
12 Nonu
13 Smith
14 Masanga
15 Mils
16 Tialata
17 mealamu
18 Evans
19 Messam
20 Weepu
21 Macalsiter
22 Wulf |

renee agreed on all points.
I guess the main upside to the current situation for us is that the trinations hasnt started yet, so early days and time left for reinforcements. |

dirtydsnz, point taken.
however i just wanted to make the point that none of those players would make the ABs anyway.
Agreed they have depth.
But not that much.

<< Plus that list that dirtydsnz has, aint that hot. The players id pick are in the springboks :P >>
jeff, the players I picked were non starters for the BOKS, of course I would much rather have the likes of some of their starters. I was merely pointing out that SA have a lot of depth this year in positions that we at this time are a little thin on the ground. |

Jefferson, I reckon GH and co still have the backing of the majority, he has never ever had backing from canty, or the majority of cantabs anyhow, its simply cause he calls Auck home which shows how small minded alot of them can be. No matter how the AB's are going as soon as there is a slip up the canty crew are up in arms calling for GH's head, its like that now & it was like that in 04. They are the minority but they always make the most noise.
Although I agree that he has lost some support by getting reappointed.
I also don't think anythings changed between now and pre 07. The only thing that he did then that he couldn't do now was stop the AB's from playing S14 but that was only 07.
What he did 04-07 was rotate players through the starting team which subsequently grew our depth. He would still do that I believe if he had the depth of players at provincial level that he thought were capable of taking the step up.
By the end of 07 it wasn't just starting players we lost up north it was a lot from the next next levels down, guys like Tuitupou, Rawlinson, Masoe, Flavell etc. These guys were our depth, now the next level down are 20 year old kids who are unproven at S14 let alone test level.
No matter what people say you can't chuck a lot of promising 20 yr olds in the AB's and expect them to win.
IMO Mains is a *** , i personally have never taken to much notice of what he says. The Blues won 2 out of 3 S12's with GH, then in 03 the only other season he has been involved in they win again. He had major hassles in Wales with the Welsh Union as have all their coaches and if you look at the Lions history he isn't the only coach who has failed to win with them. One lineout stolen by J.Harrison was the difference between GH's Lions wining and losing that series.
GH showed last year in his 5th year with AB's that after a low in 07 he can lift the team to be the worlds best team the following year. Look at what hes got to work with at the mo, any ... |

Yeah renee, I think also that was pre WC07 when henry had more power and influence and had the backing of the majority. Now... post WC07 hes on trial and every win counts and his majority is fazed.
Laurie Mains calling for his head I see. Not surprised but interesting to note what he brought up about henrys history of coaching new teams and starting off with a roar only to fizzle out later on, eg the blues, lions and wales. |
