the aussies attacked that area (carter)
he was hugely busy on defence, obviously to keep him busy and I also guess if he's stuck in a ruck and there is a turnover he will be tied up and unable to kick or run a counter attack, good tactic I guess since AB's 12 is not a kicker or play maker.
came close to making a break there but reality is they got nothing from the sustained attack in that area of the park. Who knows they may have even been gunning for a carter injury I'd be interested to see exactly how he got that leg injury... |

| I noticed that Carter was getting mixed up in a lot of the breakdowns; hence taking him out of his position/play. Has this something to do with wasted space Hansen[about 20kg heavier] having been the forwards coach and hasn't realised he now has the backs ? |

it would have needed to be a 4 try win for players to get 10's
dont be too harsh in sivivatu, yes that tackle was the stupidest thing I've seen on a rugby field for some time but he had a hand in both trys and again looked like the AB's most dangerious runner. |

I must be overly generous but I'd give Carter and McCaw 10/10 and Cowan 9.5/10 (he loses a half point for those two early mistakes).
Sivi gets 4/10 because that yellow card could so easily have been a red and it was an utterly stupid act that caused it.
But the rest, I'd agree with larks scores. |

You'd think the IRB Refs department (Paddy?) would have learned from the Lions series. I recall the ref (Bryce Lawrence I think) trying to understand the French TMO and struggling.
Lesson learned: Make sure all match officials speak the same language and understand the rules e.g. before the line is not a try! |

1. A video ref that didn't understand what he was meant to be checking.
2. A vastly improved lineout AND contesting opposition throw with success..well done GH, Hansen clearly not up to it.
3. Deans, same as Hansen.
4. WC venue 2019???...not sure on that one.
5. Other than the lineout, not much to get excited about. |

Sideline, Tony Johnson: Not his best performance, was hampered by losing his voice early on. 4/10
Announcer, Nisbo: Impressive error free performance. His experience helped overcome TJ's missing voice. 7/10
Comments, Marshall: Solid performance on debut. Was impressed by Cowans slick passing. One glaring mistake when he called TJ "Nisbo". Not as good as Mehrts at RWC07 though 5/10 |

10, Carter: at his most reliable, 22 points, these last 2 games his kicking from the tee has been without equal. Pretty quiet on attack but very busy on defence as aussie targeted that area for some reason and kept at it even though they got nothing from it. 8.5/10
11, Sivivatu: Both sublime and rediculious at the same time looked hugely dangerious on attack, finished off a brilliant try gained the field position for the 2nd try and also gave away a stupid penalty and spent 10 min off the field when his brain exploded. 6.5/10
12, quiet game on attack as the AB's looked to go wide but huge on defence where he was put to work, his defence has grown so much the last couple of years to the point now where he IS the mainstay of the all blacks backline defence. 7/10
13, Smith: quiet first half made up for with reliable defence and a great finish to a brilliant cory jane offload. 7/10
14, Jane: couple of brilliant runs, superb run to setup smiths try by sucking 2 defenders and getting a pop away, another great game in the air. To be fair he got lost a couple of times on defence but the cover defence stopped the attack before it stung. 7.5/10
15, Mils: Great game from him, great under the ball, solid last line of defence that was tested a couple of times and came out on top. The last line always needs to be mistake free and his experience at 78 tests shows. 7.5/10
Afoa, on for tialata but failed to impress. Some problems with the scrum once he came on need to be looked at.
Eaton, On for donnely some good work around the park but same as afoa some question marks about what happened to the scrum in the 2nd half.
Read, on for Rod. a knock on behind a scrum that got smashed to bits was a shame but everything else he did was quality. Showed up at the right place to make some important hits. Showed good speed and power that Rod was just missing.
Donald, only got a few min at the end but worked hard and made some good tackles |

1, Woody: strong game, better at the breakdown than most aussie forwards. Scrum was in trouble but maybe not woody's fault. 7/10
2, Hore: good lineout, strong around the rucks on defence and pressure on the ball. 6/10
3, Tialata: one of his best games around the park in some time, hit lots of rucks and even snared a chargedown! The scrum problems did not surface till he was off the park though he was only worth ~50min 6.5/10
4, Thorn: Huge on defnce around the ruck and cover, an area the AB's dominated big time. Good work in the lineout too for a change 7/10
5, donnely: Another solid effort does not look out of place or make mistakes 6/10
6, Thompson: Busy game as you would expect, plays more like a 7 and is faster around the park than McCaw. 6.5/10
7, McCaw: man of the match easy, awesome all round game. That one tackle he missed on palu was because po *** heald him back at the scrum. The ref and even the commentators missed it, good thing cowan nailed the save. 9/10
8, Rod: did not impress me to be honest, did some good work but failed to impress in a very impressive All Black forward back. Then read came on and showed he just has extra speed and power Rod seems to have lost. 5/10
9, Cowan: vintage performance from him, a couple of superb passes, reliable kicks, Awesome Defence 8/10 |

| kind of an interesting game, obviously the aussies target the breakdown with a huge change in tactics there and the AB's targeted the lineout and high ball. I almost have to pinch myself when I think the AB's won an air supremacy battle with aussies who grow up playing aussie rules. That is an area where you almost expect the AB's will lose. |
