Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
I don't think it matters much who the team is they should be able to beat Wales as they have some selection problems with top line players being unavailable and their second tier being vastly inferior to All Blacks second stringers

"Richard Loe said it in the paper yesterday and I agree 100% that that game showed that Read is our best #8"

...that is, he's the best of the current crop of pretenders lol. The best 8 in the country imo is still Lauaki with Waldrom a distant second, Nick Williams would've been wearing that 8 jersey had he stayed with Lauaki out of favour and So'oialo looking past his running best.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
as far as the front row goes I think Krockett is a shoe in, he is ther as spec cover for Woody for this exact scenario

big question is what is going to happen at 3? Where tialata, Afoa and franks are all in for a shot and on the bench will be someone who can cover both sides. And that will depend on how they are training.

Personally it would be good to see some more of Franks but it's a tight call.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
I'm still not convinced about his possession of the X-factor, but you're dead right about the way his defence stops most attacks in their tracks. Yes, he is young, has a lot of potential, and fits into the line on both attack and defence.
He's good. Still prone to a few mistakes, but definitely good. And Rodders is fading. He was great in his time, but his time, sadly, is passing if not already past.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
I disagree

he has an x-factor on defence that's for sure

in sudney he came on and blew the aussies away with his defence really hurt them, it was a pretty obvious momment there where he simply overtook Rodders and he did it again last weekend. Put a huge hit on that won posession for NZ. And at that time it bascailly meant Aussie had no chance of winning the game.

He's no lauaki with ball in hand but he is fast and has a very good pass so he slots into a backline perfectly. And he can still hit the ball up when he needs to. he has been involved in a lot of trys for canter & crucaders that way and I think we will see the same for the AB's once he is established.

And the guy is like 22 years old for crying out loud, at the momment I'd say he's sure fire to be a future all black captian.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
I'd definitely start Franks at Tighthead. I'm not sure who should play Loosehead though. I'm tempted to say pick the specialist (Wyatt). Not convinced about Afoa or Tialata on that side.
rest of the team pretty much picks itself. Agree that Leonard needs some gametime. He'll probably start against Italy.
The Welsh team looks useful except for maybe the front row. Backs could be a handful unless we get on top up front.
It'll be the usual story, 20mins of mad passion by Wales followed by our boys slowly gaining the ascendancy.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
I know a lot of people rate Read ahead of Rodders, and I can see why. His workload is way higher - he's young, enthusiastic, and his body hasn't suffered the damage that Rodders' has. He's a good player, and the best we have for that position right now.
One thing he is missing though - he doesn't have the X-factor. He's a hard worker, gives everything he's got, and makes a good impact, but he doesn't have that extra bit of magic.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
I'd start Leonard, he could do with a hit out and Cowan will be needed for the France game.
Ellis can get on a plane and fk off to wherever he wants as I'd sooner bring Juzzy Marshall back than play that useless waste of space.

I don't think Rodney's days are numbered yet Neil but agree that Read looks the goods.
He'd make a better 6 though IMO he is just a bit small for 8

I wouldn't argue with Richard Loe's comment

I agree 100% that that game showed Read is our best number 8. Correct. Rodney's their to make up the numbers at training.

Re:AB team for Wales Reply to this message
apart from that one knock on behind the AB's scrum that got demolished (then the AB's won the ball back anyway) read provided a big step up from rodney.

I liked to see Rod get another chance at a start but I honestly think his days are numbered now, Read came on and he just looks like he operates a couple of gears higher than rod. Mush faster around the park and put on some huge hits. One of which ended any chance of australia winning the game.

Richard Loe said it in the paper yesterday and I agree 100% that that game showed that Read is our best #8
