Regarding Donald.
Nonu is a perfect example of a player coming good after he is given time and plenty of chances- Toeava too.
But the big difference between those two and Donald is their talent was clearly there all along, just overshadowed (Nonus temper and Toeavas nerves)- both men have matured and are no longer plagued by those faults.
Donald however shows absolutely no talent in the test arena- he couldn't direct a pyss up at a brewery- let alone an AB backline- I would rate Cowans dodgy box kicks as more tactically sound than any of his supposed territorial kicking- he puts in one decent perfromance this year as an AB (off the bench mind) and the rest are just lamentable (not the 'one or two mistakes' larksea claims- 80 minutes of clueless, horrible, schoolboy dross).
I don't accept at all this man is the second best 10 NZ can offer. McAlister is rubbish atm, so I certainly wont suggest him as an option but using the logic I've already stated- it's proven in the past he is capable of great test play- he would be the one who should get the patience and time because Donald is a clear waste of both.

Re:My team for France... Reply to this message
RC the whole fricken team played like *** against france in June including the forward pack who got smashed around by the french. Donald did not play worse than anyone else on that day and they all have improved from then. Maybe they all should have been dumped and start from scratch with NPC players?

I get the feeling with you and some others as soon as a player makes a couple of mistakes in a game their performance as a whole gets written off. At the time the media constantly replayed one dropped catch of donalds over and over again. And just ignore the other 79min 55sec of the game.

Looking at all donalds performances so far.

He's had a comple very average games that's for sure, but lacking international experience that is expected. Some poor tactical kicking and a couple of high kicks that did not go far enough one bad dropped high ball. Sure if that was all he had done wearing black then drop him.

But he's come off the bench twice and played a major role in turning around a score line to win games against Australia. He played quite well in a losing side to South africa a couple times when the difference between the sides was quite simply the lineout. And he had one very good 80min performance against Australia which although it lacked his normal flair & Running game it was generally faultless. And after a shakey start from the kicking T his place kicking %age has increased over time to the point where when carter came back donald had kicked 74% I think which was the same Kicking %age carter had done for the AB's in 2008.

Yes he has stuff to work on, he's not perfect but he's not a finished product. But he's not a finished product and I dont think we have seen him at his best for the AB's yet. one observation that should be made is that he took time to find his feet at both NPC and S14 level but once he did he dominated. Prob just a confidence thing and becoming compfortable with the environment, I personaly dont think he's far away.

Re: Ellis and Leonard.
Before the tour I wondered while Ellis was picked. However , the time he had on the field against England he played the best I have seen him play in an All Black jersey ; finally delivered on the promise that he had. Whether or not that is a one off remains to be seen.
Leonard appears to me to get "over-hyped" on a big occassion and lose's his rythmn .... I'm with the selectors on this one.

Re: Donald
Like it or not he is the 2nd best 1 5/8 we have at the moment. Someone suggested McAllister to cover 1st. No , no , and no again. Since coming back from England the guy has been a liability. The one test he played at 1st goes down in my book as the worst performance by an All Black 1st 5/8 I have ever seen .... replaced Mannix in my Worst Performance XV.

Any selection is debatable, the selectors obviously think it is the best bench they have avaliable.

Well the selectors have mentioned this is their strongest possible line up so the players must be doing something right, far out, cut them some slack will you guys, they do represent our frikin country after all, pathetic attitudes.

As a outsider.
Donald has played some horrendous games.Nerves really seem to get to him.Provisionally he's pretty good but put him in a AB jumper and he freezes up.I honestly don't think he'd get a role at the Waratah's.
Ellis shouldn't be playing for the ABs and to choose him ahead of leanard is really surprising. Is he injured.?

(sorry I'm going to defend donald again)

Bloody hell larks- if I'm ever on trial for a murder I clearly comitted, I want you as my defence counsel.
Donalds two performances in the June tests against France were disgracefully poor, I was amazed he was allowed in the squad at all after that- he was that bad.
He was very good in Sydney, I give you that but sucked a big dykk in Hamilton- the guy simply hasn't got it.
And if sub standard players never got in the blacks- how do you explain Ellis, Ralph, Rawlinson, Blair, N Mauger, Flynn etc?

Re:My team for France... Reply to this message
worries about Aleds lineout throw are pretty well known and Public, and I agree he has not been the best in that area. And I have questioned his selection over Elliot for that reason.

But after he left All Blacks squad and started playing for Waikato I must say I thought his throw had improved alot. I remember his first game back his first throw was a shocker and I was thinking... Well I guess that's why he got not time off the bench... But then every other throw for the rest of the gam was pretty much spot on, and he seems to have continued that on.

I have to say too, that if we are looking at the worse ABs in recent years... in my book it is hard to look beyond Rueban Thorn and Caleb Ralph... but as I have said before, I would love to have been the worse AB ever, because at least I could say I was one...

Re:My team for France... Reply to this message
yeah, I kinda agree larks, I don't rate Donald but he has actually performed better than I thought he would. He ain't going to be a long term AB but he has got us by on occassions.

I can't ubderstand why Leonard has missed out, particularly missing out to Ellis, that is one selection I can't understand. Hopefully Cowan plays the full 80.

Aled is the worst lineout thrower in NZ. Thats why he hasn't been given a run when he has been on the bench. His throwing is horendous for a professional player. Every other aspect of his game is top notch but it is way to risky sending him on in a tight game and he has a shocker with his throwing.

Re:My team for France... Reply to this message
sorry I'm going to defend donald again

you say he's the worst AB in the last decade when he has played a critical role in winning us some important games. He has never missed a tackle and his shooting for goal %age is almost exactly the same as carters. He like everyone has made mistakes but he's also done some brilliant work too. The games we lost this year were not his fault. They came from an AB lineout that could not win 5h1t

If that's not enough... If what you say was true he simply would not be there and that's a fact.

Ellis and Donald.
Two of the worst All Blacks this decade without doubt have been named in a game we must win to restore pride.
I'm fkn stunned.

Re:My team for France... Reply to this message
good 22, apart from Ellis & Flynn

Would much rather see Aled play, and if the forwards are not going quite write or having a hard time getting go - forward Aled will solve that problem.

I dont really think Henry has it for waikato players but they seem to have got shafted a bit on this tour.

Leonard, Messam, Donald and now Aled latimer as well but he's in a tough position basically being McCaws injury cover to me all seem to have been given the least "quality game time to Impress"

And I'd still waiting for Messam to get a chance to Combo with McCaw & Read. Both Thompson & Kaino have been given a chance to play along side the top 2 Loosies but not Messam.

hope they all get set lose in the Baba's game and cause HAVOC! Blow everyone away :)
