| If you read things properly wharfie, you might notice that when I mentioned Argentina & Italy, I said there was a GROWING popularity. We all know that football is more popular there, but whenever the All Blacks play over there, the stadiums are always packed to the rafters. We all know that rugby will probably never be as big as football on a global scale, but it has grown a lot since professionalism was introduced, & it continues to grow. The source of my figures was actually a site which posted the top 10 recent world sporting events, with the football WC, topping the list with 29-30 billion viewers. RWC was 4th on the list with 4 billion, behind F1 racing, & (you've said it before) UEFA. Sorry bout the name calling wharfie. A bit outa line. I'll continue to give you sh!t though, cos we all know which game is the better game (It's just fun debating it!!). |

More people watch the EPL, La liga, Serie A, and the Champions league, the Copa Libertadores and that's just Club teams. Then there's Euro Championships & The African Cup of Nations. If you took away UK, RSA, NZ, France and Aussie, the rugby World Cup ( haha, I always laugh when I hear it called the 'world cup' haha ) wouldn't exist. But the Football World Cup relies on more than a handful of countries........ because it is global! hahahahaha
As I said before, if your figures are true, but dubious ( straight from www.rugby.com ??? ) then daylight is third, and a distant 4th, over the horizon is rugby.

You talk about Argentina and Italy. More people go to watch AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Boca Juniors etc which are just club tams than turn out to watch the national side play rugby!!!! Hahahahahaha. Rugby is still almost nothing there..........but it is world famous in NZ!!! hahahahahaha

| R.W.C 2007 drew 4 billion TV viewers over the tournament, + 3 million at the stadiums. Rugby has always had a big fan base in countries such as Britain, Ireland, France, NZ, Aus, Scotland, Wales,& RSA. It has a growing popularity in other countries such as Argentina & Italy. The number of people tuning in from other such world cup competitors as Tonga, Fiji, Georgia & the US, is tiny by comparison. however, so the 4 billion total means a LOT more people from a GROWING number of nations around the world, had to be interested enough to tune in. Come on wharfie, we all know that the football WC would have got 6 or 7 times more viewers, but 4 billion, doesn't make the game as small on the global scene, as that little voice in your head is telling you. 'World famous in NZ', MY AR$E!!!!. |

Football is played globally and popular globally. Therefore you have to be good, very good, to get a high ranking.
On the other hand, rugby is pathetic, hardly anybody cares about it ( but it is world famous in NZ ) and to be ranked in say, the top ten, you really only have to turn up with 15 neanderthals. NZ can seldom compete well in a global sport, so to save face, chooses some sport nobody cares about to look good.
The all whites are competing globally. A while ago, they lost 1-0 to a last minute Gary Lineke goal v England. Thats the beauty of football. A lowly ranked team can beat one of the top teams as happened in the World Cup in 2002. But it very very seldom happens in rugby.
The all blanks only have to win a few games v Aus & RSA and basically they are in the top three. Understand?? In reality, nobody cares because hardly anybody plays this obscure game for neanderthals except the intellectually challenged like yourself. Duh! |
