| i actually like soccer, used to be a goalie before i played rugby and wasnt being smart bout the all whites.I remember watching all their world cup games in 82 and wish they could still make it to the finals.I arent questioning whether soccer is huge its easily no#1 no argument there, but millions still play and watch rugby.A relative of mine spent 2 years round europe and said whenever he told someone he was from nz he said they always mentioned the abs.Still better than synchro swimming at least surely?ha ha |

sposer, you are not quite correct. You see, football is huge and the Football World Cup is massive. But most footballers make their money from their club. The UEFA Champions League is bigger than the poxy rugby world cup,( haha, I always laugh when I see it farcically called a 'world cup' ) but it is not at international level, but at club level.
Saying the rugby world cup ( haha, I always laugh when I see it farcically called a 'world cup' ) is third biggest is a bit like saying that out of say, a blue whale, a humpback whale, and a flea and a sparrow, the sparrow is the third biggest. In reality, daylight is third and that is very dubious saying the rugby world cup ( haha, I always laugh when I see it farcically called a 'world cup' )is next. The figures I have seen from recent Euro tournaments ( Internationals )would suggest otherwise.
The all whites had no chance v Brasil. Considering just one Brasilian player in less than a year earns what the entire all blank squad earns in a year, shows the huge gulf in the sports. From what I saw of the game, it was not a good spectacle. But I can guarantee that football is more popular in NZ, than rugby ever will be in Brasil.
Football is a global game and rugby is only played seriously by a handful of countries. I know you rugby neanderthals are jealous, but seeing the amount of people who turn up at the Air NZ Cup rugby games and then how many turned up in midweek to watch the Phoenix, I'd say even in NZ, rugby is on the decline.
So enjoy the all whites getting a hammering. But rest assured I get more enjoyment when the mighty all blanks lose again and again especially in a rugby world cup game ( haha, I always laugh when I see it farcically called a 'world cup' ). Rugby is only world famous in NZ. Football is world famous round the globe. |

| Wharfie..wharfie. I'll have to put out more catnip. Are you still stuck to your TV 6" screen? I warned you about the "hand of Marydonna". Now what was beautiful about that under 23 goals game? I noticed some of those pre-Neandertal or are they pre-Neapolitan players were penalised for trying to go up the evolutionary ladder for using their hands! The instinct to do something that is so basic is strong but those evolutionary referees are trying to keep the plebs in their place down on the scale of evolution. One day they too will find a revolutionary like William Webb Ellis and come into the promised land of Rugby Union and learn that its OK to pick the ball up and run free. I think we kicked the ball back more distance than we kicked it forward! Talk about boring.I don't think there were many converts after the game from THE CODE to the dribblers, but unlike you I tried to support them because that is the nature of true Kiwis. There is a place for soccer in this country just as there is for displaced persons and those foreigners who think that by continuing to wear their national dress apart from ceremonial and cultural occasions demonstrates an afinity with local NZers.Your forefathers and one mother probably felt this lack of love and forced you to play rugby as well as that caning episode when you were caught reading Roy of the Rovers at a PE class. What will be the next game, do you predict anything, any interest out there? Are all the soccer people in Wellington, the centre of intelligentsia? Has soccer fans started a thread on this. I'll just use my hands to use the mouse to have a look. The delay in replying is probably due to you trying to use your feet to do everything...one day you may become a goalie and get to use your hands. |

| Rugby world cup is the third biggest sporting event in the world after soccer and the olympics, and at least we are normally ranked in the top 1 or 2 in rugby are the all whites even in the top 100?.Must be hard to support your national soccer side isnt it?[not being sarcastic] |

dont tease them or wharfie will be angry:D:D lol its funny - what training did our all whites do?? oh i mean the under23 all whites plus overage players!!! hehe totally defeats the purpose of an under23team aye:D:D lol
all they had to do is kick the ball - with the keeper jumping side to side every now and then.. but i guess we just totally suck...
yip just proves that we need more rugby on telly... lol |

don't be like that bro.. ryan nelson was ........ was he there?
for most of those guys, just being on the same field as Brazil would be a huge learning experience. Now, if we can just learn to kick the ball hard into the net, instead of spooning it to defenders... we'd be ok. |

| Turned the tv over to channel 1 last night, & caught the last 5mins of the All 'shytes' v Brazil (thats about all I could handle though, cos F##K it's a boring game!). The Brazilians were just 'toying' with them (even the crowd was laughing!). What a joke!. If they really wanted to, 5 nil, could have easily been 20 nil. I noticed after they scored the last goal, the guy who scored, was running around the field, SUCKING HIS THUMB!.... WTF???. Good old football, best game in the world...... ay wharfie!! hahahahaha. Looked more to me like a game of Piggy In The Middle! |

| AB's are already a damn awesome team. Strategies wise, when Joe Roc returns from injury the #11 jersery must be returned to him and then all will be even sweeter. I believe at the moment, the AB's are missing a winger similar to Jonah(Big, fast & powerful) & Joe has the potential to be like him. But has to be at #11...it seems he is not as effective when playing at #14. Hopefully someday soon Hosea Gear will come into the picture too. |

let me know when the rugby is in the Olympics!
Haha! Even Synchronised Swimming and Beach Volleyball have a bigger world audience!
There are more empty seats than full ones in the big national rugby competition! Haha
Football is global and has nothing to be jealous about of an obscure sport played in a few countries, unknown and ignored in most, and only world famous in NZ!!! |

Yes, I played first 15 rugby, but no, never had to work my way up. Don't recall if the college had a second 15 or not. Only played for 3-4 games and left although they wanted me to stay. Too primitive and boring and boerish so just continued with football.
No, I am not a WUM, just a speaker of the truth. |

| Hey wharfie, I thought you said you used to play 1st xv rugby??. Usually you have to work your way through the junior ranks, to reach 1st xv level. So you obviously played for some time then?......So why the intense hatred towards rugby?? I reckon you really do like rugby, but your just one of those 'w@nkers' who likes winding people up!. |

What does that proove? There are 15 people in a country of millions who play rugby? I can tell you that rugby is NOTHING in those countries! NOTHING! They may even have a gumboot throwing team as well, so does that make them a nation of keen gumboot throwers?
Wake up!
Most of those countries have produced great footballers. How many great rugby players can you name?! Haha |

There is only ONE 'World Cup' and it sure as hell aint the rugby farce.
Football has the true only true World Cup because ....it is a global game. The same can not be said for rugby. |
