FIFA world rankings are a joke, everyone knows that, NZ rose up 60 odd places (to 50th odd) on the back of winning matches against traditional powerhouses Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. Before the 2006 World Cup USA were ranked in the top 10 despite having not played a European nation for ages.
Having said that, NZ definately have a chance against the fifth placed Asian qualifier. And to those that don't believe that NZ should be there, an example is China, who qualified for 2006 and they were ranked 70 odd, and I would say that NZ would be highly competitive against China at the moment. But against the top 30 sides, no chance. |

All whites are a waste of time they will have a better chance winning a game if they played against the u-17 womens team
they will probably still lose cause thats how useless they are
where are they ranked in the world ??
they dont have a chance of getting to the world cup against the 5th asian team
soccer maybe global but not every team is good at it |

Football is a truly global game and thus, it is hard to be a good team against all that dedicated opposition. The All Whites struggle but at least they are playing a global sport. There is no reason they can't sneak into the Finals.
On the other hand, rugby is NOT ( and never will be ) a global sport, so a few countries excel at it and most don't even bother. Ok, so Portugal has "a team" but there is no interest whatsoever in Portugal. Most of the farcically named "rugby world cup" ( haha I always laugh when its called a world cup ) teams are purely there to make up the numbers. Whereas in Football, teams like South Korea and Turkey recently knocked out the big guns to reach the World Cup semi finals.
Rugby is very very jealous of footballs global popularity and the neanderthals never tire in knocking football.
The FIFA U-17 Womens World Cup is pulling in the crowds while the rugby Air NZ Cup ( the final of NZs premier rugby competition ) was played in a stadium made up of mostly empty seats.
The standard of these girls is great and it is a pleasure to watch. Much better than watching fat plodding grunting neanderthals plod around the field in a sport largely ignored by the world. |

| Actually they do have a chance against the fifth place Asian side, that particular group of nations is not that strong this time around. New Zealand is ranked just below South korea in the fifa rankings at the moment. South Korea is likely to finish fourth in the Asian group so who ever we play will be almost on a par with what talent we have. Maybe if people bothered to research topics they would not write opinions with no basis or merit! If we play well we could get through there is hope. Where there is hope there is a chance. |

| The all whites have 2 hopes of qualifying for the world cup. No hope and Bob hope. Teams like NZ are an embarassment to international football, they shouldn't even be allowed to play in the world cup |

| New Zealand now have a real chance of qualifying for the 2010 world cup in South Africa. Got to be in with a shout against 5th place asian country. |

Won't happen.
Should win the Oceania group stage but then very unlikely to beat the fifth Asian team- especially seeing how difficult the Australians found the Asian Cup this year |

How cool would that be. Remember 82 - that was outstanding.
Unfortunately, I just can't see it happening.
Having a coach who splits his time between club and country no matter how much he says he is focussed is just not going to work.
Don't get me wrong because I don't think there is anyone else out there better than Ricky Herbert but I don't think he can do both sides justice. It would be great if there was enough money in coaching to make him fulltime for the All Whites then we'd start seeing results. |

| I think we have a chance to make it to the World Cup in 2010, however we won't be competitive if we do. |

| What are NZ's chances of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup? Given that we qualify out of the Oceania group, can we beat the fifth place team in the Asia conference? And would we be competitive if we get to the World Cup? |
