PS enjoy your holiday Wharfie.
There is a lot of jealousy from supporters of you-know-which-game on here. I'm sure it is like water from a ducks back. |

I saw on the TV news the other day that Everton are establishing some kind of Football Academy in Chch ( I think it was Chch ) in the hope of producing another Tim Cahill ( Aussie who is doing well with Everton in EPL ).
The EPL has 'stars' from many unlikely countries ( Ivory Coast, J@pan, Sth Korea, Australia, Turkey, Ghana, etc ) so with one NZer doing well already, more could be on the way. |

Hey guys.
For the sake of transparency, I'm also 'rugbycolumn' over on the rugby threads.
I decided to use another ID to avoid any rubbish about Football vs Rugby.
Let's talk NZ football then.
What we need to become competitive internationally (I call competitive around the same level as Australia is now- we'll never become a world power but could knock off the occasional big name team) is money.
Lots of it- so much in fact, the government should provide it- 20 million per year at least for player development. (A national youth (16-18) competition, using proven young coaches from South America and Europe, also several promising young players from South America, Asia and Africa could come down to make a few dollars and liven up the comp.)
We need a quality national coach- not some ex- English second division journeyman whose done a three month management course.
I mean a Redknapp or a Zola- what ever they want- we pay.
We need to get our players into European competitions- the more Ryan Nelsons the better.
I know all this is bloody obvious but the key to NZ football becoming better is our government bankrolling it.
I also know it'll never happen any time soon and we'll have to rely on the Pheonix for now. |

Yeah well why don't you talk about these larger than life games ??? All you do is come on here and tell us football is huge way bigger than rugby, rant rant rant. We know soccer is larger than rugby everyone knows, and on top of that you always have a dig at rugby. pointless stuff
All your doing is making football fans seem stupid with all the whinging and moaning over pointless topics.
personally I don't hate soccer, I just like Rugby a lot more. Cricket, rugby and Rugby league are my preferred sports to follow.
Its no wonder you have everyone winding you up all the time, when your repeatedly running rugby down.
But of course you know exactly what your doing, and why your doing it - ATTENTION and you love trying to wind up the rugby fans because you get a real kick out of it aye ??? |

There was an Air NZ Cup game last year and the crowd was about 800 I think it was. Not 800,000,... just 800.
For NZs premier rugby comp!
Draw your own conclusions!! |

Yes yes of course scaryface I was getting a bit carried away there.
I wouldn't mind talking about some thrilling soccer game,
but there just is not any to speak about at the moment.
anyway it would only get the same response from you know who saying you know what |

now now,
i created this thread so we could talk nz football.
realitycheck i think has had what his name stands for - a "reality check".
accept the facts and move on. or else the bitterness will show in his posts - hence the deleted threads.
this thread is for discussion. not a show or bitterness. come on realitycheck, youre better than that |

but then again - thats your opinion.
3000 for a nz football crowd is considered "STRONG"
draw your own conclusions. |

the air nz cup final for 2008- when i looked up the figures - got a crowd of 22,000 for the final between wellington and canterbury.
the chatham cup final for 2008 was 3000.
"In front of 3000 strong crowd â with a healthy proportion of âhomeâ support from the ranks of the neighbouring North Shore club"
and those are facts.
i love football - but people like you take it to heart. hence why you reply with bitterness towards nz's national sport - rugby. now - yahoo/xtra are realising this and hence deleting your threads realitycheck.
let it go chap - let it go. |

"...most of nz will be supporting the waikato chiefs sunday morning..."
Is that right? How do you know this? Where do you get this from? Just your opinion ?
Personally I hope the other team win, whoever they are.
While the Chatham Cup is not a great crowd puller these days, nor is the Air NZ Cup ( NZs premier rugby comp ), so ...you know what they say about people who live in glass houses etc!
And like what was said before, one NZ footballer, yes ONE, earns more in a year than the entire all black and NZ sevens and junior all black squads earn!
Draw your own conclusions!! |

here we go again.
realitycheck - everyone knows you are wharfie aka scarface_weka, seems like you cant use those id's anymore aye chap?
well, the fact remains - the chatham cup will be played around august or september - from info provided by miss eathim_nz.
and the whole of nz will be watching waitakere united beat whakatane fc.
most of nz will be supporting the waikato chiefs sunday morning. some will watch evermore play chelsea clinton fc. oops what a funny attempt at humour there.
but in saying that - the conclusion i have come to is that there is absolutely nothing to talk about in regards to nz football. SAD but TRUE. i guess we have to face the facts.
another fact is that any thread started by me will never be deleted - because i speak the truth.
the only way it will be deleted is when challenged people (eg. realitytv etc) start talking about a bunch of pommy teams and get bitter when nz is too entrenched in its national game - rugby. lets accept that fact.
oh by the way, when your travelling out in the cbd - watch out for those buses - a manchester united fan might drive it into you and your friends. but i doubt that will happen here in good old nz. most of the country will be too busy listening out for the naming of the all blacks i suppose.
if only the all whites could get the same attention. |
