I think it is easy to be highly ranked in rugby because only a few countries bother with it. In most countries only a tiny minority care for it while most people have never heard of it.
But in football, the worlds most popular sport, little NZ will always struggle because so many countries take it seriously.
That's why NZ likes to call themselves champions in obscure sports like sheep shearing, rugby, gumboot throwing, mussel swallowing, netball etc.
Rugby has less following than volleyball, hockey, water polo etc. Only people in the UK, France, RSA, Eastern Aussie and NZ care about rugby. |

yep 5-0 equiv of 30-0 approx in rugby which is a thrashing
lets face it nz soccer is always gonna struggle
I am not much of a soccer fan but do watch when kiwis are playing..I dont think soccer fits well into nz culture
meaning the passion for the game apart from a few is not really there..lots of kids play it but that does not translate to success internationally such as it does in the other footie code...wat do ya think??

| i had high hopes for this game cos really - when are the all whites going to get another crack at the euro champions? it almost looked like the all whites were in awe when torres scored his 1st, 2nd and then 3rd, all in style. amazing to us football fans, but the all whites should have been aggressive in the tackle. we were holding back too much and showing them the utmost respect. disappointed for sure but like they say gotta move on and support the boys in white. maybe they should wear the blacks shirts again. either way we need to pick up the pace and take it to the south africans. come on all whites dont hold back. |

disappointing loss this morning. a 5 nil drubbing by the euro champions was expected but we were lucky the spain boys took the foot off the peddle or else it would have been worse. ricki herbert had the ideal preparation with 3 warm up games but the team once again failed to inspire anyone. the all whites were more intent on getting autographs by the way they held back on defence in the first half.
extremely disappointed after the italian game, after this performance the all whites should get back to the basics.
get rid of simon elliot, hes 35 and useless. shane smeltz looked like he wanted to score goals on his own but got taught a lesson by the great torres.
another stroll in the park for the euro champs. another thrashing for the all whites.
immensely disappointed |

hopefully the all whites get a good result with spain. a draw would be great for nz but could dent spains hopes of remaining number 1 for the year.
come on football fans - lets support nz football and not get carried away with a loss. nz footballis is struggling and we nz football fans should get together and back our all whites 100%. |

| i just wish overseas teams like italy england and co could tour small nationas like nz etc. it would boost footballs profile here in nz if the italians came over. they have the money why not tour down these ways? maybe after the 4 - 3 result they might pop over for one. |
