| I agree that we have too many english and other south americans taking up nz players places. Maybe we should try strengthen out football clubs and try run it like the air nz cup model. |

NZ needs to get into the real world and realise what a nothing useless 'sport' rugby is.
Football is global and rugby never will be. |

| a message to all you people who think all soccer players are poofs! Until recently I played soccer as a veteran and many seasons we had at least two or three ex-rugby players who used to play in our team. Want to know why? I thought not but I will tell you anyway. Rugby is a young man's game and the risk of injury is always greater as a man ages. Soccer is a particularly good game for 40+ people because the risk of injury is a lot lower (how many 40+ rugby players still play?)and these men can keep playing a team sport, keep fit and enjoy themselves. Without exception these ex-rugby players were good sportsmen, skilled, great team men and a pleasure to have on the team and they certainly did not think they were demeaning themselves by playing soccer. |

Barbarian, What is wrong with you? Have some sense when posting, what a useless rant, just goes to show how immature some rugby fans can get.
Don't get me wrong, I love it when the All Blacks play but come on NZ, rugby is not be all and end all. We need to stop in being so small minded and start winning in things that matter.
I believe to get football going in NZ, is to cultivate it at the grassroots/school level, football is the most played sport for young children under 12 in NZ but when they grow up, the overwhelming attention NZ gives to rugby gives kids no choice but to abandon their passion for football.
I see the only skilled player in rugby is the kicker, tyring to kick a wobble looking ball in between the uprights. Other than that you just need some muscle to mow down your opponents, not much skilled involved is there when compared to football... |

Wow Rover - does it make you feel big trying to troll boards, or is it just that you cant get any human interaction any other way?
I love the way you take a serious, on topic post and try to start a flame war.
I've seen better trolls, and I'm done feeding this one. |

Football will always have a core of fans - like every sport I guess.
The key IMO to building on that and increasing the games overall popularity hinges first and foremost on the marque teams and players results. End of story.
I'm sorry to say that until the 'Nix and All Whites start giving people something to be proud of and to brag or talk about around the water cooler at work, they'll always be playing second fiddle to rugby in NZ. |
