| Hey egg, what sort of nob are you to think that just because the media are hammering it like a new michael jackson song doesn't mean that football fans think that we're now some powerhouse in the worlds most popular sport but I bet that you would have have stoked your life against the under 17s going through the group stage unbeaten but they did and although I don't think we will do as well there's a chance we may not be completely outplayed or even beat somebody ranked highly so wait until it's played and just support the team and stop whining before the draws even been made. |

i play soccer but what happened over a week ago is now done and dusted. everyone has forgotten about it and now its back to rugby as per normal.
it reminds me when the tall blacks made the semi finals at the 2002 world champs - basketball lovers said it was the end of rugby, but 3 seconds after that tournament was over it was back to the usual - rugby at the top.
sorry to break the love but unless soccer reaches out to the rural areas it will never be nationally recognised.
rugby will dominate here in nz im afraid, all blacks will put nz on the map every year as usual, soccer will get mentioned but will slowly die out just like it did 27 years ago. why ? all the money is overseas (just ask fallon killen etc).
although the crowd was exceptional , you cant compare an international game to a domestic competition. 35,000 is more than 10,000, but you forgot that the all blacks (international team) have pulled in 70,000+ 3 weeks in a row. go figure.
but congratulations to the all whites |

| Mate I play rugby but I am getting sick of it like the rest of New Zealand. Look at the facts, about 10000 to an Air New Zealand Cup semi final and over 35000 to the All Whites last week. I was there and the atmosphere was electric, much better than any rugby game I have ever been to. The crowd was amazing for the whole 90 minutes, screaming and chanting. Even go to a Phoenix game and the supporters there are better than at any rugby game |

Mate, some of your comments regarding Rugby Union and League players is nonsensical. I have the utmost admiration for the sport of Soccer and of course Rugby Union and League. But, you cant compare the codes. The physical attributes and fitness regimes are vastly different. Of course Soccer has World wide appeal and attracts the highest participation in player numbers. Neither do I think that NZ Soccer Fans are a joke. Put it this way I would rather be a NZ Soccer Fan as opposed to their Northern Hemisphere counterparts, where violence is existent.
For your information I have been a Leeds United Fan since the 1970's and a avid fan of the Kiwi's Rugby League and All Blacks.
NB: All the above codes require strategy, planning, neither code is devoid of this. |

This is a stupid thread. One based on ignorance. More young kids play football by a long way. Their parents and relatives take them to games and stand on the sidelines. Of course big crowds aren't going to turn up to watch 7 year olds play.
You could say the same about rugby. You don't see crowds watching kids play rugby but crowds turn up to watch the all blacks. Same applies.
The supporters on Saturday night deserve some credit for what happened. I wish I was there. |

Hahaha you Rugby and League guys honestly make me laugh. Answer me this, 'Why is football the most loved and popular game on the planet?'.
If there's one thing I've learnt, it's Rugby and League players are all the same, they lack the brain capacity to understand the difference between 'running from one end of the field to another, only to put a ball over a line' and 'using fitness, speed, skill, tactics, vision, precision, power, endurance and intelligence to score a goal in a net against 11 opposing determined players in front of a crowd of thousands in a matter of 90 minutes'.
Haha, and you would be suprised, football players actually are no good if they're too 'lightweight'. In fact, they have to have almost as much stamina as a rugby player so as to not get knocked off the ball so easily. If you were to chuck a rugby player on a field and say 'Okay, sprint around for 90mins non-stop with a ball at your feet' they would be tired within 10-20 minutes.
Honestly, you're taking on the majority of the world with remarks like that. Football players don't even want to think about trying out for rugby and league because, well, let's face it, if you play football, you obviously have a lot more talent that the big stocky unfit rugby guy that can only run in a straight line and tackle another player to the ground.
Football forever. |

Look, lets face it, all the soccer players are the whimps that never got picked for the rugby and league teams, they don't like contact sports and have a chip on their shoulders about it.
One word that sums them up LIGHTWEIGHTS!!!!!!! |

| I must admit that I do say yuk when I see professional footballers' hugging, kissing and even literally lying atop of players especially if a goal has found the back of the net. Eg. Barca, the Ibrahimovic goal his first. Despite these bonding distractions I am beginning to like watching Football especially when skillmanship is pitted against skillmanship. |

mate the netball teams operate under salary caps of $300,000. The phoenix's salary cap is over $2,000,000 and that doesn't include the 23 marquee player's salaries.
If you've ever been to a football game you will see that the fans are 1000% more passionate than any other sport in the country. Unlike a rugby crowd that just MIGHT stand up and make some noise a few times a game. |

Well, to me rugby does not seem global from here. Global does not mean a few countries take it seriously, but that at best is rugbys lot.
As for salaries, Kiwi Ryan Nelsen earns more in a year with Blackburn Riovers than the entire all black team.
Stick to what you know, whatever that is. |

| er rugby seems pretty global from here, dach you loser, if we are talking about soccer in NZ, who would be the top players salaries, probably about 50 rugby players, the Warriors team, 7 netballers and then maybe a soccer player, even then it would be doubtful |

You want ignorant brutes....look at NZ rugby fans and players
You want retard players....look at NZ rugby players
You want million pound salaries...no, not for rugby players. It is such a boring obscure game. Still,$100K is not bad for waddling around the field with your mouth open (catching flies??).
Football is global, rugby never will be. |

| I grew up in the UK, and there it's all soccer, and do you know what.. I hate soccer. The fans are all ignorant brutes, and the players are the retards i went to school with who did nothing but mess around when I wanted to learn, and they get rewarded with million pound salaries whilst I'm lucky to get $40k a year. |
